Overnight in the Eastern Woodlands
I take you along on my over night in the eastern woodlands. It is nice this time of year. Fifty -ish for day time highs with nights down in the mind thirties make for excellent ground camping.
I demonstrate my technique to fight conduction from the ground and to utilize radiant heat from a fire to stay warm.
I tried a new sleep system in the process. I took a layer from military sleep system and combined it with wool blankets. What it’s your take i

I'm happy I found this! Thanks for the tutorial.
Your welcome, thank you for taking the time to watch, much appreciated
Great Job!
Appreciate it👊🏻
Might be a fun project to make her a hammer then she would be able to work on proper hammering techniques with a hammer that isnt too heavy for her
Agree, I’m personally not at that skill level yet to fabricate a hammer
@Surefootsurvival i haven't made one either but i have made and axe which is similar just make a couple drifts and should be good to go, i think its always a good idea to push yourself and learn in the process. Who car3s if its not prefect she probably wont notice.
@@Inventeer Always pushing🤘🏻
On the matter of keeping it cool: the glue itself makes a decent seal. It wasn't uncommon to take a clay pot, fill it with glue, seal it with more glue and hang it in a well or bury it in the ground. Get it down a couple of feet, and it'll be sheltered from the heat. I don't know if the seal is sufficient to actually immerse it (in a stream or lake, for example), but might be worth a try!
Never even thought of using it as a sealant, thanks for the idea 👊🏻
How good those hang up?
I personally never used them. I know someone that uses them every year and on average hang up with in 60’ of the trap bed. It all depends on the foliage close to the trap site.
Thanks for watching
See the way yours goes all the way down ' u don't have enough compression thats why its not starting very often ' u need to change those rings and use more lube it wont go all the way down if its got enough compression
It’s been in a box at the back of the closet for years. There are to many variables with this method. It’s beneficial to understand the concept but I wouldn’t want to rely on it.
@Surefootsurvival ya I understand after I did that to mine I can get an ember everytime now within 3 to 5 strikes would absolutely rely on it i have the same exact one
I have this exact one ' and i found the problem was all the o rings need to be changed who knows how long they sit in that position and flaten out don't forget the one on the screw cap and the other was not using enough lube u must have enough to get that seal to get compression and u don't have to even push it that hard if u have enough compression mine starts almost every time now if its actually hitting the bottom then it doesn't have enough compression
My favorite coffee. 👍
Strong enough to hold up a house
What's he doing?
I’m setting up camp, the turkey in the background was gobbling
Well, i guess that'll work once......
I was cutting vine to make reefs. This was one of four that was giving water.
@@Surefootsurvival Ok. So, how many more times than once WILL you be able to get water from those 4 vines?
@@timezup16 it’s an emergency water source, it not for a long term source
@@Surefootsurvival I never said I thought it was.
It'll work as many times as you have vines
Are you burning coal? Just a fan to blow air and it keeps going all day? Hey I like your meditation zone!
Yes, I am burning coal. The fan is a pump for a air mattress, put on a dimmer switch to control flow👊🏻
I seen that same thing there was hundreds it was weird
This was the first time actually seeing first hand.
Timely video! I am in the process of starting some myself. Thanks for sharing! Good meeting you at the expo this past weekend!
Same brother👊 better off starting with the soil method. You will see more leaf grow with the water method but little to no roots.
New sub
Very appropriated 👊
Excellent video covering all of the essential gear that needs to go in your daypack on every step into the woods.
👊Thanks for watching
Preparation for the fire is everything. The details of the fire bed, the fuel stack, the birds nest all go into effective preparation for the fire! You’ve demonstrated the techniques in a masterful way here. Thanks! Tennessee Smoky
Well said!, Thank you for taking the time to watch👊
Ok, I know this is an older video, but any video that starts out with the Last of the Mohican's theme definitely gets my attention and sub!! I have the Bushcraft Black along with a bunch of other Mora models and enjoy every one of them!! Hope to see more from this channel!!
I actually have switched to nothing but Mora. Side knife is the Garberg. My camp knife is a Mora classic. I appreciate you taking the time to watch 👊
Really good info sir.
I deeply appreciate taking the time to watch👊
Good points and the only thing that I might add is to inform family or a friend where you are going and when you expect to return and what they are to do if you miss that time or fail to check in. Too many people fail to take some basic gear with them because they don't plan on being out that long and then Murphy kicks them in the butt.
Agree, some people might be hoping I don’t come back though 😂

Trapping sucks, you want that animal..meet them equal
I respect your opinion, thank you for watching 👊
Cool
Thank you for watching 👊
It’s cool how you can transform just a normal seeming piece of metal into a tool, art, just about anything.
That is what attracted me to blacksmithing. It is an art that has fallen to the wast side, I’m expecting it will be an important skill to know someday. Thanks for watching 👊
Great video, it was very helpful!
This is why I post video like this, thank you for watching 👊
NICE JOB keep your head up and happy new year 🎉
Always and Happy New Year to you👊
That's a really nice piece of land you have
Thank you, I have access to 300 acres. I am truly blessed.

How about forging a signature
Could be possible, it would have to be someone with WAY more skill then me👊
You can always tell when an electrician decides to take on a project that includes wiring. Nice! This is the first time I have seen this use of appliance cord and outlet. Typically for DC connection most people use an Anderson Connector and some Stranded 2-6 awg Wire. But hey, it works!
Thank your for taking the time to watch and comment.👊I’m by far an electrician. I had the parts on hand and used it. As long as I know that it will not overload and burn down, I game.(House projects I go by code🤣)
@@Surefootsurvival you sound like a good ole country boy..... That's how we roll sometimes too... Especially on a Sunday and nothing is open to get parts.... We say MAKE IT HAPPEN CAPTAIN! Lol love it!

That’s some ghetto jury, Rick engineering right there. I would not trust that.
It’s not like I am going to pull a tank with it.
just got this recommended to me, hell yeah, love the lifestyle
Agree👊
I machined my brass piston and it now has 3 O-rings for better compression.
Just subscribed to your yt channel. We are already connected on tiktok.
Dumbass
I'm so glad to see someone else try this with cat litter buckets! I got sick before my project got beyond five buckets: potatoes and sweet potatoes. Got up to almost 100° several days in a row, potatoes didn't like it. Sweet potatoes are likely to swallow my yard!
Thanks for the tips. How did that turn out?
They took for about a month and stopped growing. I’m thinking that the soil change stunted them.
@@Surefootsurvival I've tried to put some in on the Ohio River bank two years in a row. It does not seem to be taking.
Jason could you please do an update and show us or let us know that the rivercane grew or not. Thank you
Update short is up now👊
Found it thank you
Your rawhide looks like tanned hide. Would you get more glue from untanned?

@@SurefootsurvivalIf they boil it in acetic acid or vinegar?
@@Estudiante-musico-con-hobbies might be misunderstanding your question. This video, it was boiled in water👊
@@Surefootsurvival I had heard that acetic acid can separate the fibers of leather. That's why I thought that with the fibers of the leather the leather could be hardened. sorry, it was just a question 😵

Great Video,,,,, Thanks for sharing your technique,,,,
I just got one to find the problem people are having. You need to add teflon tape to the valve end to improve the seal and second add one or two wraps of kite string under the piston o rings it well improve the piston seal. After these changes the fire piston work 6 out 6 times on the first try.
Thanks for the awesome video on hideglue Jason! Real cool channel. Cant wait to watch more videos!
Can get a quicker ignition with charcloth using flint and steel with quartz rock and steel striker here in the south!! Quartz is so plentiful in the world is the south lying on the ground everywhere!!!! Strikers are easy to make you can use an old file look it up!!!
How fast does river cane grow?
Do you sale Root stock of river cane ?. If not ,do you know where I can find some to plant on my creek bed ?.for erosion..
Great batoning.
Thank you

As time goes on, these skills become more and more important.
Bro. For years ive been trying to make this stuff. Each time failed or highly inefficient. I think this is my best bet. Only problem is that i live where one inch dig you hit lime stone.
Did they root?
No, I wish. Back to back floods took them
