Welcome to Imy's Garage, here I will share my obsession of all things motoring. You can expect to see car rebuilds, restorations, maintenance and general car reviews.
I have a special interest in performance cars, as well as every day quirky (and often rusty) ones.
I'm also a biker, so from time to time I may add some interesting bike content.

Just be aware the fish eye lenses distorts distances massively. In my car even when I'm a few feet away from the car in front in slow moving traffic it looks like about 5 metres
Great video. That dash airbag is a bear! Took me about 4 hours to do.
Thanks, 4hrs is good going - I think I took longer :). Just seen a few of your videos - the crash footage is interesting. Very similar to mine.
This crash was 100% avoidable. Tesla's vision-based collision avoidance system is garbage (especially when it is partially blinded by the sun sitting low on the horizon --> like in this crash footage). Tesla's software renders the cruise control essentially useless, forcing the car to slow down randomly for no reason - OR - being unable to react fast enough if you let your guard down - utter garbage. I should know, I bought a brand new model 3 in september 2023. It's a good (pure) ev, but everything related to 'driving aid' on that car is absolute dogsh!t.
Completely agree, I’ve been driving a model 3 since 2020… the autopilot is only useful on the motorway and you have to keep your foot near the accelerator (do Americans still call it a gas pedal?!) just in case it sees a shadow while overtaking a truck! To be fair it’s better now on the motorway, but isn’t designed for our local roads.
How much was the total cost.
Hi, I’ll be sharing costs in a future video when the car is fully repaired.
Just subscribed! Interested in buying a salvage Tesla.
👍
I agree - that looked like an easily avoidable crash. I'd guess the driver wasn't really paying attention at the time?
Nice video, the crash footage is shocking. Surely the driver could have stopped or slowed down a lot more!
Do you still have the old blown steering wheel centre? I'm looking for one for a custom project to play with... Has your supercharging been blocked since the airbags went off? Cheers, Rich
No, sorry I’ve binned the old airbag. I haven’t tried supercharging it yet - will do so in the next couple of weeks.
@ that’s a shame! Apparently if you set a far away destination and it navigates via superchargers then it is still enabled..
I’ve got access to another repaired model 3… it used to supercharge and now it doesn’t! So I’m not feeling so positive about it now. It can’t have anything to do with airbag damage because the other Tesla literally just needed a wing and bumper - no airbags or heavy damage. I suspect Tesla take a HPI feed each month / quarter and just ban anything that’s got a Cat marker against it.
@@ImysGarageor check the v5c when you change over ownership?
No, the v5 doesn’t say anything for a cat N. Only for a cat S
I saw this car on co-part looking forward to how much it cost you to buy, parts spend total and the final result, great job so far!! Can we expect another video to drop this week?!
Thanks, I’m struggling for time to edit the videos at the moment, so realistically it’s going to be every two weeks :)
Mashallah. Good video
It’ll be interesting to see you painting it yourself after the problems you had getting it done properly by a professional
Looking good! I have a feeling that in the future, thanks to the huge number of them, the Model 3 is going to be a car that a lot of people will be repairing after getting similar sort of damage. The vast numbers of them will mean that parts from breakers and ebay will be used a lot to do it too! Thanks for showing that EVs are not all that daunting to work on at home!
👍
Hi mate just come across your channel. So now subscribed. I have just bought a Tesla Model 3 Cat N and they have stopped my supercharging on my car you might of got away with it but they class them as unclassified vehicle at Tesla and you might have to get the battery inspected. Just a heads up with replacing your windscreen Auto Glass done mine and they have fitted a Chinese screen and it’s awful. Good luck
Hi, in my Tesla app it says the car has supercharger access and PAYG - this seems to be the case on a few of the repaired ones currently on autotrader too… I’m going to test it in the next week or so! How can you tell that it’s a Chinese windscreen? Autoglass have just replaced mine but it looks fine to me. Thanks
My Tesla app says the same mate supercharging network and pay as you go but it’s still been disabled. The windscreen is very blurry
Thanks - I will have to actually try and supercharge now! Windscreen seems fine to me.
Great video, just randomly found your channel, will be watching intently! I recently got a m3lr for my wife... And now want to rebuild a m3p for me... They seem nice to work on, and super cheap right now for the performance and features!
Interesting build, subscribed! One question though - with it being cat N, has tesla banned you from supercharger?
Thanks, the short answer is no - I think they used to require an inspection before allowing a repaired car access to supercharge, but they don’t block them anymore. This is based on my experience of 2 repaired Tesla’s :)
@ yeah they used to offer that £700 odd inspection, but it clearly stated in T&Cs that they won’t reinstate supercharger access. Glad to hear yours isn’t banned - you must have a great deal then!
Looking forward to the next one! Explain everything in details please . This is my dream project
Mashallah good video
4:40 I don't think you would get close to £28-330k for a 2020 M3P. It's pre-heat pump 2021 model. But it will be a great buy if you get a useable car for half that! 👍
You’re absolutely right mate, I actually filmed that part back in April and they’ve depreciated heavily since then. I think a straight one should still be worth £24k ish if someone really wanted a colour that isn’t white and an interior that isn’t black ;) plus it’s got enhanced autopilot and low miles in its favour…. I’ve been struggling for time editing the videos, but I’m on it now so should be a nice quick series from here.
@ImysGarage sure, there or thereabouts. I love the black and white interior (not so keen on black cars 😉) but anything other than the kitchen appliance white is good! It'll be a great car to use when it's finished.
A few days ago I was thinking he's not uploaded anything recently and then.... 🎉
Briliant video . . . looking forward to the next one!
Good job - I am in the process of rebuilding a SE but can’t get it to drive after airbag deployment done the pyro fuse but still getting a drive train error
Great videos brother. You did an excellent job putting that countryman together. My cousin and I did something to a 2018 phev countryman. Drove it to MOT (5 mile journey) and passed with flying colours, however on the journey home started getting error messages and car started jerking and just couldn't go past 10mph. THE FAULTS -Battery not being charged -Hybrid system fault -Regenerative braking not available I've changed the non hybrid battery already because previous one was dead and couldn't revive it with a noco genius 10. Current one is brand new from BMW. Not sure whatbthe issues are so far.
Thanks bro, have you had the codes read? What are the errors exactly? I used the ISTA software to reset one of the error codes I had. Did it have airbag damage? Be careful if the battery pack looks physically damaged it could be very dangerous for anyone working on it.
No, the airbags didn't go off. Just a front damage, replaced pretty much what you replaced on the front, the complete radpack, bumper, headlights etc. Got it as a runner, but with a dead battery that needed a jump start.
It came up with a few codes, can't remember them I don't have the OBD with me. But one think we're certain of is the non hybrid battery isn't charging inside the car. I've just taken out the brand new one and it was flat, it's now plugged to the trickle charger.
I’d recommend starting with the OBD codes, see where that takes you. There’s a small chance it’s related to the pyro fuse, I’d also check all your fuses and the physical condition of the high voltage battery, in case it’s damaged and needs resetting via ISTA
Hello brother, quick question on the coolant top up/change. Do you fill both reservoirs or just one on the right near the 12v battery? One is for engine and the other for high voltage tech.
Hi Imy, Great job, but I’m a little puzzled, having sorted the actual airbags, seat belts, what about the srs control module which, correct me if I’m incorrect, is under the centre console. Do you not have to remove this in order the reset the ‘crash data’? I’m doing a very similar job so I would welcome your reply please? Regards Rod
Hey Rod, on BMW’s / Mini’s you can just reset the crash data using diagnostic software. I used the ISTA software to reset the module. If you’ve got a new module with your airbag kit, you could just swap it out at the same time as doing the airbags - if you don’t want to be messing with software or diagnostics. The third option is to send your module to one of the many airbag companies on eBay who will reset it for you. Good luck!
Hi Imy, Thank you. Will ISTA run on a windows 10 lap top, if so, is the procedure easy to follow and which ISTA package is it?
Not to worry Imy, I’ve removed seats to remove centre console to access srs module, I’ve also prepared dash to remove, not difficult or really time consuming. Thanks again. Regards Rod
Hi Imy Sorry to be a pain, but I having no luck with getting the airbag module crash data reset. It’s a ACSM4i part number 6577 5A41CA2. 01. I’m being advised it’s not possible and a new module is only way forward by two company’s and the other three contacted have not responded! My question, mine is a 2023 yours a 2021 both face lift LCI models therefore, I would guess have identical modules? Can you advise please? Regards Rod
Hi Rod, I’ve not used them myself but a company called crashdata (co.uk) have your part number listed as one they can reset. They charge £65 I think. I’ve no experience of using them, there are other companies that can do it too. But, I would first check that you’ve cleared all your airbag codes. Are you sure the seatbelts aren’t still showing an error? Like I mentioned before, I just reset mine using the software, I’d be surprised if they changed the module significantly on the f60.
Great job pal
What did mini say altogether after the inspection, you didnt say you rebuilt it to them after the inspection
Being a perfectionist has its cons 😂😂😂😂
Hi Imey. Great job!! And good videos. I’m thinking of doing the same with a similar car, hence finding your videos. 3 questions if you can: what software did you use to reset all the DTCs/is one better, or cheaper, than others. Also, I have done a Discovery in the past, and the crash data was un-eraseable, and I had to replace the Restraint Control Module, then reprogram it - did you have to do something similar, or do BMWs allow you to reset it. Finally, the pedestrian protection system - do you have to replace the sensor (pipe) and the explosive bonet pistons? Or could you reset them/reuse them somehow? Many thanks in advance.
Hi there! The software was ISTA, it’s free BMW software you just need a decent quality cable - it’s usually rj45 to OBD port. ISTA can reset airbag ECU’s, though I’ve read that some ECU’s can only be reset a number of times (maybe 3) so just try it when you’ve completed repairs. On the pedestrian protection system, I replaced the whole system including the tube sensor. The explosive part of the bonnet mechanism looks to be sealed for one use only, I.e it can’t be refilled, I personally wouldn’t risk refurbing airbag components :)
@@ImysGarage thanks for your reply, much appreciated. All the best
Amazing job
It’s amazing to see how much you could do just in your garage.
Great breakdown with your experience. I’ve had a few minis in past, and just purchased one for my daughter. I’m thinking about dabbling in rebuilding wrecked etc/ buying from copart as a past time hobby projects.
How much did you pay for the dashboard pal.
Awesome job. Just a question, isn't that a pre-facelift bumper with a facelift grill? I thought the bumper was different for the LCI?
It’s definitely an LCI number. But they do 3 or 4 different types, there’s one for each trim version : classic / sport / JCW / exclusive… this has a JCW bumper on it.
Incredible transformation 🎉 is that actually possible to upgrade interior trim and go from piano black to something else? Or maybe upgrade seats? Just have idea to make my mini countryman f60 better ❤
Thanks, yes you could easily remove the dashboard trims and seats to replace with different ones. There are two different types of rear seats though, one that slides and one set that’s fixed in place, so you’ll have to replace with what you have originally to keep things simple.
@@ImysGarage that's awesome, do i need also upgrade mini software if i'go with electrick adjustable seats? sory for those questions, but i'm strugguling to fing any information about. Thank you for your video again, it's awesome!
@@iminimal86 that’s a good question! I don’t know for sure but if your car has the wiring connectors then it should work. If it doesn’t you can usually code things in using ISTA software. Look it up - really handy BMW sofrware
Just came across your channel, great video and well put together. Gave you a sub!
Awesome Imy; look forward to the future projects! Keep 'em coming!
More to come!
You've done an outstanding job. For a home repair it's refreshing to see someone that actually cares about the quality and trys to do it right. Your video quality is great too!
Thank you very much!
Quality vid!!
Thank you!
Amazing job.
Thanks!
Good job
Nice work..doing dash needs lots of patience or else you will end up with extra screws 😅
