EVS2K is a channel documenting my process of converting a Honda S2000 to EV.
It often goes off on side projects (solar upgrade, repairing my tow vehicle etc) but is all related to the journey.

Oil Pump reversal Mod

We are going to run the SDU in reverse. The oil pump works quite well in reverse, except the pressure release valve no longer functions. So we are modifying the release valve to work on the other side.

This is cool. Thanks for making this video. Gives me some ideas!
@@KiwiEVadventures my pleasure. Love your content too. We should do some trans Tasman promotion.
I have 2x Territories. One a turbo and the other NA. Believe it or not on my NA Territory the RH diff bush is shot - probably because the LH ones were replaced before I got the car. Do you reckon the RH one is doable at home? I can see the bush from the top. Might have to remove the exhaust manifold to get my saw in to cut the outer but I don't really want to do it if it can't be done at home without removing the subframe.
Nmc or lfp battery ?
@@dm-ebike1834 MY22 50kwh is LFP
Yea this video shows why ev,s suck imagine labour costs to get tray off for start plus dangerous work who wants to do.this,? plus as auto mechanic long term green detoration of wires then whst?
Imagine the labour costs getting an ICE engine out! There's a lot more connections than go to an EV battery pack.
How much does it cost to replace the MG ZS batteries? In USD
Does it have a pyro fuse? Was there any sealant or gasket around the lid?
@@andypag1071 no pyro fuse or sealant.
When using a power supply to power the motor be careful not to apply any regen as that can blow up your power supply.
I thought the motor was spinning the wrong way last video! Nice work!
It was! I had it in FWD and the setting in OI was SwitchReverse but when I pressed the accelerator it ran backwards (for my install). I played around with the settings yesterday and changed back to 'Switch' and it turns correctly now. Not sure where the error is. Maybe I have the direction switch wired incorrectly, but considering that is just a test control box I have another chance to get it right. The MG shift control knob is just a CANbus device. So I need to use an Arduino to read the CANbus signals and fire a relay in place of the switches.
@@evs2k Be very, very careful when you're making parameter changes. I originally had an OpenInverter board in the LDU in my Jeep conversion. I was trying to calibrate the RPM output. I had the motor turning at about 500 rpm, changed the RPM offset (or something like that) and pressed save while the motor was still turning. For some reason, that caused the inverter to short itself and that blew my 500amp main fuse. There's a video on my channel called "Blowing Inverters - TSLA TJ" if you want to see the aftermath.
that's neat mate
Yeah, it's a bit of a milestone 3 years in the making. Pretty chuffed.
Congrats on the progress so far. Really appreciate you sharing your learnings.
Nice work Wayne, quite a milestone. Once you have it on the road I'd be interested in what it cost you all up.
Not sure I want to do that. Would be very depressing.
Good result well done. I think your approach is allot simpler and more under your control, rather than having to follow/chase MG logic.
My thoughts too. But in reality getting the motor spinning is only one half of the equation. The other is battery charging and fast charging. This all involves working with and meeting the requirements of MG's battery management and fast charging system. A mountain I still have to climb.
Excellent! I saw you posted this video on the EV FB group. I want to use a simple 12v motor to drive my mechanical speedo gauge. You certainly make the Arduino code seem very simple!
Yeah, should be easy to program the Arduino to drive a motor at variable speeds too.
@@evs2k "easy". Haha...if you know how. 😎
@billbayer5526 hey, this is TH-cam. Knowledge is just a video away. Seriously, I had no idea (story of my life) but found a guy that did.
Great work! I did a similar thing with an ESP32 to drive the gas gauge in my electric Porsche 914. th-cam.com/video/82BUbWtKy8E/w-d-xo.html
Can i use as solar system 2022 modal lfp battery
Volts are volts. You can use anything with anything. Just have the have the correct inverters and sensors in between. What do you actually want to do?
@@evs2k I want to use after eight year...when running range reach at 75% of actual range
@@mj3532 reading between the lines, are you thinking of using an old MG LFP battery as home storage charged by your solar system? I'm sure it's possible. You just have to find a hybrid inverter that will charge it and battery management system that will maintain it. Not really my area though. Look up DIY Home Batteries.
@@evs2k thanks sir
looks good the battery box
I'm happy with the workmanship. It really is the only way to get all those modules in an S2000.
well done mate you are a legend
Compliments will get you everywhere. ;)
Great video, and good to see the remnants of the "void" label at the end
Ha ha, yeah that is long gone!
Thanks for this video, definitely would like to fiddle with one of these but don't even know where to start ... 🙂
Go for it!
Will s2000 will be fwd or rwd after conversion?
Nevermind I watched until the end definitely rwd
Yeah, S2000s are RWD and I would never change that.
good morning. Could you tell me the dimensions of each battery module and its weight? Thank you and congratulations for your videos.

Awesome work mate 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey mate. Great idea well done. Where did you get the hitch mount from?
I got it from a trader in FB Marketplace. Can't find a listing anymore. Did a search on eBay too. Nothing.
I bought the mount from Bogart Industries. Their number is 0430 961 897.
Parabéns amigo.
I really don't know what this guy is doing here!
Like and Subscribe. I'm sure somewhere in this collection of 'train of thought' videos I explain what the end goal is. And for the TL:DWatch crowd, I am converting a Honda S2000 to EV.
@@evs2k okay gotcha thanks
That looked and sounded like pretty good cardio workout!
I was stuffed by the end of it.
What is the bolt for at the 7.34 minute mark?
If memory serves me correctly that is the third diff mount bolt. Goes up through the subframe.
Cheers.
Bro is this a 50.3 kwh battery and is it lfp or nmc pls mention
This is the earlier 44.5kwh NMC.
What is the make & form factor of battery cells..?
CATL NMCs 2p6s
i know its pretty old in terms of when the video was posted ... what would you estimate the battery housing to weigh ?
About 300kg. The new packaging is 286kg.
@@evs2k thanks but the housing only not with cells inside lol
@@adamsaiyad3959 oh, sorry. Bloody heavy. I didn't weight it but expect it was 50-70kg.
How did you remove the battery pack fron the car?
Combination of a trolley jacks and dollys. Loosen off bolts on one side, support other side, release bolts and lower onto dollys. Then repeat on the other side. My driveway is a bit of a slope so I had it secured with my garage winch and pulled it into the garage.
Good job mate - Don’t you find the Nolathane gives a bit of a hard ride….???
They are a bit squeaky but I don't think the ride is any harsher.
is this the long range or the short range model?
Not long range. It is the 50.3kwh LFP battery
I think your would have been happier with it in the rear........Especially when you have to get a heavy object off a loading dock. - Nobody says you can't cut it off the front and move it back there,,,,,,or just get a piece of 2x2ID tubing and stick it back there.
I can add a mount point where ever I like. But the immediate need is to get things from my garage (behind me) onto the bed in front of the axles.
Crazy!
You'd be surprised. And hey, there are three layers of gloves. Gotta show my mum I'm being careful.
very nice piece. it will save your back.
I hope so!
😅this is why evs dont have a future
I think we should all go back to steam!
@@evs2k Steam? That new fangled mess! We need to go back to horse and cart!
JUNK WASTE OF TIME
Geez. Looks like you got your money's worth out of those shorts. Lol.
Yeah, they've had a hard life.
Test the force it takes to rip that threaded plug out of the floor there! I believe you should assume 20G or 20 times the part-weight supported there.
I was convinced but the fabricator that more isn't necessarily better. And as it turns out the front of the box (at engine mount points) is 180kg and at the rear mount pints, 100kg. This is pretty much the same as the original engine and gearbox.
Promo'SM 💕
That’s a nice bit of engineering. Are the modules OK on their side as opposed to being flat as per original MG installation?
They are supposedly ok on their sides. It is the upside down ones that we will have to keep an eye on. But each cell is a sealed unit so I expect it will be ok.
Nice work Geoff and Wayne! 🤟
Thanks 👍
What motor is going in the RX7? 😮
The RX7 is an old conversion that is going through some maintenance. I believe it is two DC motors powering it.
One of the questions I have had about ev conversions with more than 1 battery box is how the the battery isolation is managed. Are you going to have 2 sets of contactors ? 1 set in each battery box. Or , are you going to do it a different way ? Cheers.
I've had similar questions, but my solution is one battery box.
I may be missing something here. Why are you not able to run them all in a series conection along the bottom and then come up to the top leaves and run back to the front. And have you pos and neg avalable at the front ? These look the same packs that I just took out my Mg zs ev. 110 ah each cell. 6 cells in each modual. The black tops are master grey are slave for the Bms. Wiring .
That is actually how Geoff has them configured. Three on the bottom in series, then a complex route through the front modules, two rear/top in series. Means the + and - end points are close together at the rear.
Very cool
Thanks for the video. lt's nice to see the diversity of ev conversions going on around the place. There's a lot more going on than the general public realise l reckon.
More to come!
Nice! Looks like that thing has a stronger back than I do, I'm sold!😄
You and me both!
Whilst leaning across the pack, one should wear a rubber condom.... just incase... 😳
How do you know I wasn't? ;)
