EZ Solar Roof Mounted Junction Box Install Video
Must be installed where the status LED's are visible to the homeowner. Most of the time the breaker feeding them is tripped.
The breaker needs to go on top close to main power lines..
"will this little box protect my thousands of dollars of electrical devices during a lightning storm?" "yes" buncha saps.
Run your grounds and neutrals behind your hots in your panel
If you think that little piece of shit is going to do fuck all to protect a whole house from a power surge, you are the dumbest fucking excuse for an electrician I have ever seen in my life!
WHY ??
I've wondered about surge protectors since I lost two TV's in a blackout acfew years ago. I thought they only made them for campers, I didn't know they made something like this forvthe home. Does it have to get its own circuit breaker or can I use it for anything else?
Is that only tied too one load ? Should it me on one leg of the main incoming power ?
As an Electrician over 34 years, these things are a waste of money! Until the mains can be interrupted when there is a primary to secondary contact or a close lightning strike, you're just a sitting duck. No surge protector will help you. And when it happens and the surge protector literally blows up, the power company will say it was an act of nature, and you will get NO compensation. I have seen it dozens of times. But if you need that false sense of security, then have at it....
How does that protect the whole house ?
it doesn't, it just helps people with too much money to sleep at night, because they now have less money to worry about.
By any chance does anybody know that NEC code that says if these can or cannot be installed inside a panel
Our local co op installs one at the meter for 100 dont known how good it is.
Couldve used a QO2175SB meant for these panels and mounted it on the bus bar. Surge protectors are only useful at the top of the panel, guarantee you that info was in the installation guide. From SQD: “The SPD requires two adjacent mounting spaces and must be installed as close to the neutral assembly and main circuit breaker or main lugs as possible. Keep wire lengths as short as possible with no sharp bends.”
Why do the yanks have to overcomplicate everything? Their system in general looks outdated and messy but those protectors can be made to slot in where a breaker goes. Quick and simple.
Just get a SPD breaker and even better get it with distribution
NEC 110.3B too and 110.14 D
Violation a national electrical code article 110.14
Yeah, this wasn't installed properly.
I’ve never installed that specific one but I’ve done a lot of them and all need the ground wire to be the shortest wire
Square d makes a surge protected breaker that would do the same thing with less labor and be properly listed. However if you have anything less than ideal input power from the PoCo, good luck running LED lighting or dimmers
This is a great product. Don’t install it inside of a panel though, you’ll never be able to tell if you get hit with a surge. They should be installed close to the feeders (before branch circuits) with the conductors twisted all the way up to termination. A two pole 50a breaker is only required for the Ultra series but the Surge series calls for a 2 pole 15a.
Aka whole house fire starter
Wow! You were obviously dropped on your head as a child and maybe last week too. This is as bad as checking yo see if the light teally goes out when the door shuts. How will anyone ever know if it's still working???!!! Yes there's a kit for it to be flush mounted or better yet just install the breaker style one square D makes. If all else fails- read the instructions!! Self tappers!😅
So you couldn't run the wires behind all the branch circuits you jumped over talk about lazy
Leave it to a solar guy to not know how to install a surge protector
Just the video I was looking for...
Every day
Nice view
These guys, sometimes I'm a bad ass hey guys, yes ma'am, wear these booties they will make your feet soft😂. I'm just kidding ladies they are damn good boots filling them with water. You don't have to wear them immediately, but do wear them till they are right at dry.
How do you get it up by yourself? I had a job recently, and needed to call a bigger guy to help me lift it up. It was embarrassing, cuz I'm a guy, and it's cringe to need to ask help for something I'm supposed to be able to do myself. Thanks!
Are both the service cable and splice cable #4 or #2?
And couple years later they have problems. From the screwdriver damage. From someone with a gardening shovel. From the lawn plug machine. ...
need some new gloves where i cant see ur fingertips
Like you mention, the item is useful. We have used one for experimental purposes with the intention of expanding use of it to all fleets and branches. One of two things we found unreasonable; 1. The item in question is very heavy. 2. The cost
I've had 2 different styles so far, I really like the versatility of the fitment system, no matter what you can achieve a nice fit.
Hello is this box metal for the body and for the cover? Thanks in advance.
I have a hard time believing that those wires of that small of Gage are able to stop the flow of current off of your main service power pole to your house. If anything this seems like a fire waiting to happen I’m no electrician but I believe there’s a very good reason why those, Romax wires are so damn thick and our practically zero gauge wiring. Now I’m referencing zero gauge wiring as in car audio install, which is pretty much the same principle as your home breaker system just with the reversed current. Anyways, I have a hard time believing that this little devicecan prevent a surge from such high voltage
The conductors do not carry supply current. Only short-duration currents associated with transient events. Also, conductors are gauged on amperage (current) and not voltage.
Is this SPD, universal? I mean, I can install in any panel, I only need a 20A double Pole breaker for that. Is that correct? Where can I find this SPD?
Made in china
So is the phone/ computer your typing on 😅 go thru your house and throw away everything made in China then enjoy living in a cardboard box
@@thesolarslayer175 well said
Stop hating 140 isn't bad for the 3 werks of use 😂
Yep
You cant install that SPD inside a panel unless there is a plate made for it (only one available is with a cutler hammer ch panel.)
Junk!
Why
excellent simple video. thank you for sharing. the diy solar crowd needs this ! Thank you
I think you stood in dog shit
only an idiot carries it like that. As the surprise power, cable lines, curb, or driveway will eventually prove. Top of the shoulder is effortless and makes it easier to handle and throw
Only a idiot would not check his surroundings before carrying the ladder.
Where can you get that insulated tool
Home Depot 😂
Any that go into the IQ7+ micro inverter looking to get some that'll plug into the ac side of the enphase inverter ?
Guaranteed this guy is non-union 🙄🙄
Thanks for the video! I have the EZ solar jbox. I'm curious what strain relief fitting did you use to penetrate the roof?
