I don't think you can go wrong watching any of EXO's videos. My personal favorite is The Eldorado, but that's probably because it's a live performance. They are so magnetic on stage. I also enjoy the dance practice to The Eve, but that's just a Kai thing. Ha ha.

The story in this MV is that Taemin and his love were in a car accident that ended at the bottom of the lake, he survived but she didn't. his grief and love for her were so great that he turned into a phoenix, he then used his new powers to bring her back to life in exchange for his own life. he then waits for her in the afterlife for her to join him (hopefully after a long happy life..).

Taemin's "Flame of Love" is telling a story of love and passion. As Es explained, most interpret it as Taemin and the girl were in a car accident in this MV and the girl died. I think Taemin was so distraught that he was incarnated as a phoenix in order to use the phoenix's powers to bring her back to life. As you might know, phoenix are mythical birds that have healing powers, etc. But as we see in the MV, as soon as she was brought back to life, the price Taemin had to pay was with his soul and he traded places with her, where he was forced to wait for her until their souls meet up again after death. That's why when we see her hug Taemin we see his soul leave his body and he is wearing that white outfit, which is supposed to be a death shroud, as he crosses over into the afterlife to wait for her to join him. Taemin gave up his life to allow her to live -- he made the ultimate sacrifice for love. His "Flame of Love" burned so brightly and passionately that he was willing to give up everything to have her live. In the end we see their souls meet again to spend eternity together. "Flame of Love" is another one of Taemin's Japanese tracks that is true art. It's one of the most beautiful MVs. Even though this choreography was complex, I am sure it was no problem for him, after all he is one of THE BEST dancers in the industry. LOL As Es mentioned, this was another one of his songs that was choreographed by Sugawara Koharu who also was the choreographer for "Sayonara Hitori"and was featured in Taemin's "Move" MV, among others.

The radish is a phenomenal idea since you don't have a light stick. Maybe you could create your own with a flashlight and some clear plastic. Just color the plastic with markers, use a little duct tape, and you're good to go. The more sparkly things you can glue onto it the better. I'm hoping you'll have the same experience I did at my first kpop concert. I made so many friends from across the country and around the world. I still connect with them on socials, and I even met up with two of them at the second concert I attended in a whole different section of the country. Kpop friends are friends for life, even if it's just online. Have fun! Stay safe, drink your water, and tell us everything you experience.

Fun fact: Although it looks like Super Junior's "One More Time (Otra Vez)" was filmed in somewhere like Las Vegas, they were actually in Macao China, which is kind of like the Las Vegas of China, and it was filmed at the MGM Resort there. (Check out the VLive post of their SJ Returns reality show to see a behind the scenes of them shooting this MV. It has English subs.) Most of the behind the scenes footage looks like Super Junior filmed by themselves, so I think the reason it looks like they don't have very much interaction with Reik is because the parts with Reik may have been filmed separately. Reik is a pop-rock band from Mexico, which is a trio that is made up of the main vocalist and the two guitar players and they are indeed popular in Latin America. There were 8 SuJu members + 3 Reik members in this MV. As Es mentioned, we didn't see Heechul sing or dance in the MV. Not only did he not participate in the dancing, but he was recovering from some health issues at this time that prevented him from singing or rapping in this song as well. So, that's why we saw him sitting in the chair and only killing us with his looks this time. LOL This MV came out in October 2018, so at this point the oldest members Leeteuk and Heechul were 34 and Ryeowook, one of the maknaes of the group, was 31. This MV was actually the first MV that Ryeowook was in after being released from his military service, and Kyuhyun wasn't in the MV because he was still doing his time as a public servant as part of his military obligations. If you like SuJu's Latin vibe, check out the Korean version of "I Think I" (they also have a Japanese version with its own MV.) and "Animals", or -- if you want to see why Es says SuJu aren't normal "real people" LOL -- check out "Ahora Te Puedes Marchar", which is a remake/parody of a famous Spanish song by Luis Miguel. ;)

Leeteuk said on Weekly Idol that the MV was done by the same director as a Bruno Mars MV who "got paid a lot, but we weren't happy with the results" so they reshot it in Korea. So I'm assuming that for the most part the Reik footage is all that survived the South American "original" MV. Explaining the very separated feel. 😂😂😂

I love the music, but you're right there's a disconnect between the artists in the mv. I wonder if they had only one day to shoot the scenes where the two groups are together, so they probably didn't have much time to build connections. I would love to hear more music from the two.

Es did a pretty good job of explaining all the points in SHINee's "Atlantis" MV, but I just wanted to point out a few other things that I think makes this MV extra interesting. As I interpret the MV, the convenience store is a cover for the fact that it sits on top of a portal to the city of Atlantis. To the average person, the store just looks like a regular store, but if you are in on the secret you know that if you head to the storage room or basement, etc. you will find a magical elevator/submarine that will take you to "Atlantis." I think that move in the choreography where Key and Minho make the circle is them gathering all their power and love and they are blasting it all to the fans (Shawols) or they are sending all their love to the girl who they are singing about in the song, etc. Like a superhero who is summoning all their powers. Because the SHINee members are sort of supposed to have power as the keepers of the portal to "Atlantis," etc. Plus, if I had to guess, it also might be something linking SHINee to SM's Universe. Most of SM's groups' storylines are connected in some way and they are all part of one big story. For example, I think the soda can we see appear in Key's hand in "Atlantis" is connected to the soda can we see in Key's solo "Hate That ..." MV. (However, I'm not yet sure whether the can magically pops into his hand in "Atlantis" because it is coming from its original location in "Hate That ..." or if it appears in "Hate That ..." because Key brought it from "Atlantis." ) Because Minho writes all his own rap sections in SHINee's songs they are all very meaningful, and are strategically placed in the song for a reason. If you pay attention to his lyrics you will see they have a lot of deep meaning and they enhance the story and add more depth to the song. For example, the long sss sound you hear at the end of his rap lines in "Atlantis" are supposed to mimic the sound of waves as they crash on shore or against the rocks, etc. Minho is actually quite poetic when it comes to his songwriting. You should check out the behind the scenes MV shoot for "Atlantis", th-cam.com/video/jn6qkSNro9A/w-d-xo.html, to really see how detailed everything in the MV was.

I'm an artist, and I can't tell you how much of a chokehold this color palette had on my work for over 2 years. It really transformed my color choices. I've had to move on from it a bit because trends change, but it still lives in my heart. It's just beautiful. I remember when the people who discovered SHINee during DCM era reacted to Atlantis. You could see they were unsure of what was going on. I just laughed to myself. This is who SHINee is. Once you think you know who they are they do something you don't expect. This is why I'm a stan. They always keep me guessing.

Whenever this song shuffles on to my playlist at the gym I stop working out and just dance and vibe (and mouth "rap" Monho's part and Onew's long note).

GFriend were just beginning to explore more mature concepts when they were abandoned. I think that Kay may be interested to see where that has now continued through Viviz in their latest B-side video “Untied” which is firmly out of “innocence” territory and into “sexy” zone.

Thirteen year old me would have loved this. I absolutely love Taeyeon's voice. I like her latest solo work, and of course the duet with Key. I didn't realize so many of them were well known actresses too. A lot of talent in that group.

It's the music that brings me to a group, and I think I might be hooked. It's very poppy, but has some experimental moments. I love that. I just finished listening to Leggo, it has a bit of an 80's vibe which I also love. I think the rest of my day is going to be spent discovering their discography. I personally prefer EXID's older music videos because they gave me a sexy and crazy/dork vibe. The recent videos have a more normal and common vibe.

One suggestion: Watch EXID's videos in order of release (from 2012 to current). So you can see how the group has evolved over these more than 10 years.

EXID was very successful between 2014 and 2016 in Korea and won several musical awards during that time after Up & Down. (on the English Wikipedia you have a list of all the awards received). I would say that EXID was much much much much more successful than "BESTie", both in Korea and Internationally. Several EXID songs have surpassed the 60 million views mark on TH-cam. They also became well known for their appearances on Korean entertainment shows such as Weekly Idol, where Hani was co-host with Heechul. All of EXID's appearances on Weekly Idol are among the best of that show. Hani and Solji also stood out individually. In 2014 and 2015, Hani was one of the most famous idols in Korea. Solji is considered one of the best female vocals in KPop (She won The King of Mask Singer 5 times).

What kind of song has acapella and a bed spring sample?? Only the *best* song! The acapella is absolutely stunning. I love it when they flex their vocal chops. Chanyeol has such a vibe. Phew. Am I the only one who like Xuimin's hair? It made him look soft. Kay welcome to the EXOLs. I finally got the light stick last month, so I'm officially in. And the bed springs???? Well why not? LOL

The song is called "Tempo" and the album is named Don't Mess Up My Tempo, so, the tempo is intentionally a prominent part of the song. I think the tempo is also supposed to mirror the uncertainty and unsteadiness that EXO are feeling within the storyline in the MV and be the driving force spurring them on in the story. However, if you read the lyrics, you see that in the song they are talking to a girl and they are telling her, "Don't mess up my tempo." And yes, part of the tempo in the song is created by the squeak of what is thought to be bed springs. (The underlying theme of the song is a tongue and cheek reference to sexual innuendo.) On the surface, the song and MV is meant to be enjoyed by the casual watcher and listener like you would any song on the radio, but if you want to delve in deeper and explore EXO's storyline, then there is so much more going on. As an SM Entertainment group, it shouldn't be a surprise that EXO are amazing vocalists -- hence the acapella part in the song. SM is known as the vocal powerhouse, so all of SM's artists are outstanding vocalists. Fun fact: There wasn't supposed to be an acapella section in the song. The members were just messing around in the recording studio riffing with each other and the sound engineer loved it so much that they decided to put it in the song. EXO are known as the "Vocal Kings of Kpop" for a reason. "Tempo" came out in 2018, so there are 9 members in this MV. (Only 8 members are in the group scenes.) This is special because it's the first time we have seen Lay, EXO's Chinese member, participate in anything with EXO since 2016 and you won't see him again in another EXO project until their "Don't Fight the Feeling" MV in 2021. However, although Lay was in this MV, you won't see or hear him sing or dance because you watched the Korean version, and at this time, because of the political issues between China and Korea, the Chinese government only gave him permission to appear in the Korean version, but he wasn't allowed to participate in the song. If you want to hear Lay sing you will have to watch the Mandarin version. To understand the choices being made in this song and the story in the MV, you have to be aware that everything EXO is involved in, and I literally mean almost everything, is connected in some way to their concept and storyline. EXO's MVs are kind of like a movie -- it's a movie that has been going on for the past 11+ years -- since pre-debut -- and it has no sign of coming to an end any time soon. EXO debuted in 2012 and from day one, the group's concept is that they are aliens from planet Exo and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the evil Red Forces. As otherworldly beings, each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them. The aesthetic of the "Tempo" MV is centered around the color red because the setting is supposed to be depicting the members under the Red Forces' control. What fan theories think is happening in "Tempo" is it's showing the members of EXO all trapped in separate dimensions. Each of those rooms, could possibly be a different dimension and that is why you see the glitches and why you hear Xiumin and Baekhyun with that computerized voice, because they aren't all in the same place at the same time, so their voices are being distorted as they try to connect between dimensions, etc. (Which could also explain Xiumin's hair.) They also still could be trapped in different rooms within the maze, like what we see them in their "Overdose" MVs. For several of EXO's MVs we believe they are still trapped within the maze and they are continuously trying to find their way out. The maze seems to affect their connection to their powers and it clouds their minds and dulls their senses, so not only are they fighting the Red Force and X-EXO, but they are also struggling to break free from the fog the Red Force has them in. That's why we see some of the members just lazily sitting around and kind of blankly staring off into space at times. Baekhyun is the one that is singled out in the MV and he is the one standing above everything looking down, so this is one example of where we think that maybe he is the only one who has avoided the Red Force's control and he is observing everything that is going on from the outside. We see Chanyeol (one of the main rappers) being interrogated by Chen with the inkblot test and that is thought to be the members trying to figure out who are the real EXO members and who are the evil X-EXO members created by the Red Force -- or who are the real members and who are the clones. At this point everyone is suspicious of each other and no one can be trusted. Also notice how the inkblot looks like it's shaped like a butterfly. The butterfly is also an important part of SM's Culture Universe storyline. We see a butterfly in EXO's debut "Mama" MVs in 2012, which is thought to be connected to the colorful butterfly that is Ningnig's symbol in aespa's story, so you will see it all the time in aespa's MVs starting in 2020 as she navigates through the digital world. You also will see a butterfly appear in several of SM's other groups' MVs, which is often used as a metaphor to represent a woman -- possibly representing a connection to the heart of the Tree of Life from EXO's storyline -- in each of the MVs, as a way to connect all of SM's storylines together. For example, there is also a white butterfly in NCT-127's "Favorite (Vampire)" MV from 2021, which is meant to represent the "vampire" woman that they are singing about, and it's even thought it could be connected to the white butterfly in SHINee's "Ring Ding Dong" MV from 2009. It also could be the white butterfly that helps aespa navigate through Kwangya in aespa's "aespa ep. 2 'Next Level' - SM Culture Universe" video in 2022, which would explain why we see a similar butterfly in all of SM's storylines. The butterfly appears to help everyone as they travel through Kwangya. (Everything SM does has to do with Kwangya -- even SM's new building where everything is created and produced is called Kwangya. Kwangya is the metaverse that all of SM's groups' and artists' concepts, and most of their MV storylines revolve around.) Therefore, the butterfly inkblot could be used as a way to try and break the control the Red Force has over EXO and to remind them of the fact that they need to find their way out of the maze and to not forget what their mission is, etc. Halfway through the MV Chanyeol's eyes and hair change color, so some think that this is either showing two different versions of Chanyeol who appear in two different time periods or dimensions, or one is Chanyeol the EXO member and one is Chanyeol the X-EXO clone. Often, when you see a character in one of SM's MVs with blue eyes or different eye colors this usually means they are not who they appear to be. The silhouettes we see behind the lighted white wall or box also could be connected to the silhouettes you will see when you watch EXO's live remixed version of their song "Wolf" in concert. The silhouettes could represent the fact that EXO are battling with X-EXO for control. (And, now, it also could be connected to the silhouettes we see behind the white wall in SHINee's new "Hard" MV.) The "Chess game" is thought to be supernatural EXO chess, and I don't think it's a game they are playing, but I think maybe it's something they are using to try to decipher a clue or figure out a way out of wherever the Red Force has them trapped at the moment. It's unclear right now what that scene is really telling us, but I have a feeling, things will become clearer in the future as more of EXO's storyline is unveiled in future MVs and as SM's SM Culture Universe storyline continues to evolve. At one point we see them take those "chess" pieces and put them together to form a larger cube shape, which is thought could possibly be a model of the maze in which they are trapped in. And I think this also may be connected to the cube/labyrinth maze we see floating in the air in WayV's "Love Talk" MV in 2019 and the similar cube we see blocking aespa's way as they travel through Kwangya in aespa's ep. 2 video. And I think it might even be connected to the cubes we see in the sky in Kai's solo "Mmmh" MV in 2020, as well as the labyrinth cube we see SHINee's Key standing on top of in his solo "Gasoline" MV in 2022. (Baekhyun and Kai from EXO, Taemin from SHINee, Taeyong and Mark from NCT, Ten from WayV and Lucas who is a former member of WayV, are all members of the Kpop supergroup SuperM, which I think is why SM is creating connections between all of their groups' storylines, because it's all part of the same story. Plus, everything aespa does is connected to the SM Culture Universe.) In SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)" MV, we see the members using a map to navigate through what is thought could be the maze that the EXO members are trapped in, as SuperM is coming to rescue EXO from the Red Force's control. And it could even have something to do with the fact that we see in SHINee's teaser video for their Hard album, that they are also trying to solve a maze, which -- because Taemin is a member of SuperM -- could possibly be SHINee trying to help EXO as well. We also see EXO's Sehun (EXO's other main rapper) on the motorcycle in "Tempo", which I now think is connected to the scene where we see him driving a motorcycle in EXO's "Lightsaber" MV and sitting on the motorcycle in their "Don't Fight the Feeling" MV. In the very last scene in "Tempo", that is Baekhyun with that glass cube. I am not sure what that means, but I am sure it's foreshadowing something to come in the future with EXO's storyline, and it probably has something to do with the fact that Baekhyun is the one that is singled out in most of EXO's story. (We also see Chanyeol with a glass cube, similar to the one Baekhyun has, in their "Love Shot" MV.)
