A great lady and a true country music legend.

It makes me feel bad because I really don't remember or recall Connie Smith.. I recall the name Connie Stevens but, not Connie Smith. She does sound good .. she sounds like a cross between Dolly Parton and Tammy wynette.. Which are two great singers. So I'd like to consider that a compliment. If she's in the same age group as they are, give or take, I'm bounded to have heard her singing throughout the years growing up on the radio, obviously without knowing.

Funny I grew up listening to George Jones, Waylon, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, and Patsy Cline, those popular in the 60’s. But I never remember hearing this woman before; especially as a “star”. But when I recently stumbled on to one of her songs called, “”Once a Day”, which I had recorded on XM radio 10 years ago; I realized that she was way under rated for her time. Her voice is up there in the top 5 female singers, I would have to say! And I just heard her sing this “Million and One” song and I’m floored! I was born in 1959 by the way, so you know where I’m coming from!🤪

This was a surprise - Connie's 1969 cover of "Seattle" is one of my top five performances by her outside of her own hits and I've played it regularly for decades. "Seattle" was the theme song for the short-lived albeit terrific drama tv series HERE COME THE BRIDES and a pop hit for Perry Como at the time. I think Connie is the only country artist who ever recorded it though it screams COUNTRY to me. Happy to see it must be one of her favorite songs too for her to rerecord it again - as good as her recording done 55 years ago.

Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest songs of the 20th century in any genre and so proud our beloved country great Skeeter Davis was the one that made it famous. Connie had sung this on Marty's tv show and glad to hear she's now recorded it. This Skeeter classic must have been covered by over 50 famous singers - from Loretta Lynn to Susan Boyle to Herman's Hermits to Johnny Mathis and certainly Connie's take on her late friend's classic is one of the very best of the bunch.

Connie buffs know she first recorded this back in the 1960's for her CONNIE IN THE COUNTRY album and she still sings it as a great today as she did back then. I've always thought this was one of the best songs Loretta ever know and obviously Connie does as well to record it again. Conway Twitty also did it in one of his first country albums and I think there were other covers, impressive as this song was never a single release for Loretta.
