Summer Book Haul (mostly used books) 🌻🍃📖
I’ve read six of his books. It’s fabulous and always made me cry. In his books, there are many plots criticizing government. Of course it’s still allowed and it’s not a political book throughout the book. It’s just common stories happening in normal people under this background❤
Such a relaxing review vlog. You should voice act stuff. Love to hear you just talking about stuff like maybe you should read stuff and create audio books.
@@alexandrumarin8981 that was so kind of you 🥰 thank you so much ❤️
TOO MUCH WAFFLING.
@@tru2harris998 no one is forcing you to watch 😉
This is my favourite book. Thanks for the review ❤
😂 I love dostoevsky, try out Idiot or Crime and Punishment. The Idiot is my favorite it was also Fyodor's favorite aswell. The main character was an epileptic, as was Dostoevsky kind a self portrait of the author himself. The Adolescent is also a personal favorite of mine. Any writing by Dostoevsky is just fantastic.
If you liked 1984 by George Orwell, then you should check out it inspiration "We" Yevgeny Zamyatin you won't be disappointed.
Forget about the Yellow Wallpaper look at Dr. Victoria Bateman she gave a lecture at Cambridge University on Brexit and The Naked Truth with no Clothes on and you can watch it on TH-cam video quite Shocking !
I remember reading the wallpaper story at a GED class back in the year 2007
Reread it... Please.
@ThePreacher1995 why?
Dear Catarina, Greetings from Chinese reading program "Reading on the Island", which has been produced and broadcasted for two seasons and is currently preparing for the third season. We really admire your insights on Yu Hua's "The Seventh Day". Our program invites top Chinese authors like Yu Hua, Su Tong, and Xi Chuan to read, travel, and share on an island. It is popular globally. For the coming season, we're taking "Reading on the Island" to Crete, Greece. We will have a fan meeting with Yu Hua, Su Tong, Xi Chuan and other celebrities. The meeting will be held on 30th to 31st August in Crete,Greece. We’d love to invite some international fans to share their thoughts on the meeting. If you are interested in our program, we will be really happy to receive your reply. Then we will arrange a video conference to discuss the following specific details with you. Considering that you are not in Greece, we will discuss the solution for the travel expenses to Greece based on your confirmation of participation on the conference. For more, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for your support! Best regards, Production Team of "Reading on the Island"
I really like the Rainmaker by Grisham, but… I was hoping that there was going to be a twist at the end regarding who burnt down the offices of the law firm that Rudy Baylor worked at in the beginning of the novel. I thought it was going to turn out that he had some sort of guardian angel looking over him, which never came - unsure if anyone else thought that was coming!
Sadly, many crimes remain unsolved in real life.
Great book, great character study, I'm still trying to figure what the last few pages of fractured paragraphs, mean? has he finally learnt to travel through time or is he trying to time travel by writing it down, or what???? last few pages damn..... also the trist with Jennifer? is it imagination or not? hmmmnn?
Thank you for the Eca de Queiroz recommendation. The only novel of his that I've read is The Crime (or Sin in some translations) of Father Amaro.
That's it, I am buying it right now. You got me at 10:23 🤣🤣🤣
Omg 😂😂😂 please do and let me know your thoughts!
Great review! I am halfway this book and got to the point to really question why is it called "Dracula: The Un-dead" when said protagonist is mostly absent. The novel feels more like fan fiction than a true sequel, lacking the gothic atmosphere and suspense of the original. The plot is convoluted, characters are poorly developed, and it ultimately fails to capture the essence that made "Dracula" a timeless masterpiece. I am really trying not to measure Dacre's work with the same yardstick as Bram's, but I think he should venture other alternatives and stop relying entirely on his family name to sell.
Totally agree! I mean I still had a great time reading just for the laughs, but if one is looking for a sequel to the original Dracula then they're going to be disappointed. This book is a mess! I reckon you've described it best by calling it fanfiction! It's exactly what it is.
I just finished this book today, and i liked your take on it! I liked the ending, but didn't notice how useless the spy element probably was. Thanks for the vid!

Could you make a video recommending Portuguese books or writers?
Sorry but are you pretending not to know what happened to not spoil the book?
I enjoyed your review of The Eternal Husband. It is a good place to start if you are somewhat intimidated by his longer novels. It's also worth pointing out that Saul Bellow's second novel, The Victim, is very much indebted to this one and I recommend it as well.
I've never heard of that one! I'm going to check it out 😮
At first, I find the book confusing. Like at first I don't know whether Esme is Indian, half Indian or Scottish, because I dont know any physicals information of the characters. So until so many pages, I imagined Esme, kitty and Iris as Indian lol. but along the page I become very invested to the story A LOT and in the end I love it. I think its very intense and beautifully written.
Hey! I am planning to buy this novel which has been translated into my native language. But it has a premium price tag. Should I give it a try or not?
I'm sorry, I haven't been active here and missed your comment. I mean if they're charging a lot for it, I wouldn't recommend it because it's literally so convoluted and messy. I enjoyed the silliness of the book, but I wouldn't take it seriously in comparison to Dracul. Have you read Dracul? It's much better!
I’ve watched Daria, but I refuse to read any books she’s read, just because I like my book collection being mine! I LOVE searching the library for books, then hours later get into one to figure out I love it! Just the adventure of that process as well as dissecting the book while reading and eating is the best part of my day! Knowing that I got the idea of reading a book from a tv show or person isn’t as fun to me! And I have designated fast foods I like to eat while reading certain books, like, the outsiders by S.E. Hinton- I like to eat panda express while reading that book! Then books like robopacalypse, wizard of oz book series, and great expectations I like eating chipotle with! Then the last one is I love eating Taco Bell while reading too close to breathe by Olivia kirnan!
Loved buddyreading with you and Faye; thanks for setting up the IG group 😊
I agree, it probably works great on stage, but on paper it fell flat and it made it hard to read. Thank you ❤😊
I think I read The Turn of the Screw thirty years ago so can’t remember it but I’ve read other James and he is not known for an easy to read writing style, long sentences where you’ve forgotten the beginning by the time you get to the end for example 😉 I’m generally a fan though. When you mentioned Eça de Queirós it sounded familiar and I remembered that I want to read his novels The Maias, I will now add Cousin Bazilio to that list!
That's what I felt while reading it. I'd easily forget the beginning of the sentence and couldn't remember what they were talking about. The Maias is an amazing piece of literature, I highly recommend it ☺️
the camera keeps zooming back and forth
A little off topic, but I love the wallpaper behind you.😊
Oh thank you! We went with a forest theme for the living room ☺️
@@dejectioncatreads1758 your welcome!
I definitely agree about Henry James conversations being hard to follow. I think he was going for realism, but it just doesn't work on the page without the nonverbal signals you give and receive in a real conversation. I wasn't sure from your last two videos, but after you said "my condition" here, I'm gonna go ahead and say congratulations! 😁
Booktube will miss Jenny 💔
I'm planning to read Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall in February. Would you be up for buddy reading Agnes Grey?
Of course! I'm starting Agnes Grey on Thursday and I'm planning on reading 3 chapters a day with Faye (here in the comments). If you'd like to join us I can add you to our conversation on Instagram 😊 Let me know! ❤
@@dejectioncatreads1758 thank you, following you on IG and look forward to joining you and Faye :)
It's cool to see someone else doing a project. I'm also doing a project, but I'm doing an American history project because of Jenny.
Oh that sounds so interesting! Are you going to be focusing fiction or non fiction? 😊
@@dejectioncatreads1758 Mostly nonfiction, but I'm adding some fiction to the list. My goal is to be able to at least sometimes give recommendations for nonfiction and fiction that go well together.
Such a beautfiul way to pay tribute to Jenny. ❤ I have read Agnes Grey, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, but I might have to jump in for some re-reads. 🤓 I have Shirley and Villette on my shelf and I will be on the look out to purchase The Professor later in the year. 📚 Thank you for sharing.
Thank you 🙂 if you'd like to join me let me know! I'm very excited about it 🙏☺️
What a wonderful project in honor of Jenny. ♥️ I love Emily’s poetry!
Thank you 🙂 I think I'm going to try to add a few of her poems during the month of February. I've only read a few but really enjoyed them 😊
What a lovely tribute to a wonderful woman. I miss Jennifer’s amazing voice, sense of humor, her vast knowledge of history, and her general zest for life. She was a treasure.
Thank you 🙂 She was such a presence here and she's truly missed! ❤️🩹🕊🙏
This is such a wonderful way to honor Jenny's memory. Thank you. I've added it to our playlist ❤
Thank you so much for organising this so we have an opportunity to honour her memory ❤️🩹🕊✨️
Ohhh, I'd love to join you for Agnes Grey in February. I meant to re-read it in October but didn't have time, but I still want to re-read it because I've forgotten almost everything about it. Losing Jenny still hits me hard every now and then, too. People who don't spend much time on social media can't really understand how you can feel intense grief for someone you never met in person, but Jenny had such a warm presence even on a screen, she made everyone feel like we DID know her in person.
She really was such a presence... I'm still devasted every time one of her videos is suggested here ❤️🩹 it really feels like I knew her personality... I'm starting it on Thursday! Does it work for you? We can talk about on Instagram if you'd like 😊
@@dejectioncatreads1758 Yes! I'll dm you over there. 😀
Such a wonderful way to honor Jennifer with a Bronte readathon. I will read one of the Bronte’s books in February too.
Thank you :) even though I'm not going to read all of these in February, I wanted to set a tone for the rest of the year (or how long it takes me to read these).
Really wonderful video
Thank you so much! 😊
YAY. Hiya. Good to see you back x
Hiya! 👋👋 Good to be back, my friend!
Welcome back! 👋 I recently got The Good Soldier on a whim, too. I've never read Ford Madox Ford before, but I've wanted to for a long time. The Woman in Black definitely isn't that long! It must include other stories by her.
Hi! 👋👋 it's good to be back! Honestly I didn't even check 😮 because the cover gives you absolutely no hints about extra stories. I'll be sure to confirm it! This is also the first book by Ford that I've seen 😊
You're right! There are more stories in the Susan Hill book! I hadn't opened it yet. They should have added "& other stories" to the title!😅
@@dejectioncatreads1758 They really should! That's crazy. But it's great that you have extra stories to read!
Welcome back! Lol Nice haul!!!
Thank you! It's good to be back ☺️
Hiya DC. Just chillin' in my local library...saved your vid- to watch over t'weekend. ☺
Thank you! Let me know if you have read any of these books later!
@@dejectioncatreads1758 Read a compilation of E.A.Poe, a few years ago- The Fall Of The House Of Usher was NOT what i expected! Gotta give the guy credit for also basically creating a genre- the detective story...will look out for that Henry James novel. ☺
I really like the rainmaker. I read it when I was 14 maybe. Now I’m 37. It may be time to read it over again.
I'd say it is my favourite so far, but I've only read a few by Grisham :)
I've been wanting to buy the book for a while and came across your video. Frankly, your thoughts about the book helped me. Thanks.
Hope you like it!
Hey dear, how are you? I saw your TH-cam channel. You make very nice videos. But do you know why your video is not going viral even after that? don't worry If you want, I can help you with that.
Thank you so much for sharing my channel.😊
When do the spoilers begin?
I talk about spoilers from 4:51 onwards.
@@dejectioncatreads1758 Merci beaucoup, madame!
If you want to read Russian literature, but want to begin with a short book, I can recommend this one: "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Thanks for the shout out girl! And yayy for finding a new Christian fiction book you really liked!!! 🥳
Great video, I have an obsession with Page right now. Does the book play out exactly like the movie or is there extra events/story changes that happen.
