The mali empire did not disappear in late 1400's like past books have said. Mali Empire The Tarikh al-Sudan records that Mali was still a sizeable state in the 15th century. At that time, the Venetian explorer Alvise Cadamosto and Portuguese traders confirmed that the peoples who settled within Gambia River were still subject to the mansa of Mali.Upon Leo Africanus's visit at the beginning of the 16th century, his descriptions of the territorial domains of Mali showed that it was still a kingdom of considerable size. However, from 1507 onwards neighboring states such as Diarra, Great Fulo, Yatenga, and the Songhai Empire chipped away at Mali's borders. In 1542, the Songhai invaded the capital but were unsuccessful in conquering the empire. During the 17th century, the Mali Empire faced incursions from the Bamana Empire, who ultimately sacked and burned the capital in 1670. The Mali Empire rapidly disintegrated, being replaced by independent chiefdoms. The Keitas retreated to the town of Kangaba, where they became provincial chiefs.

Decline The late 14th century again saw a series of short reigns, often ending in palace coups. While maintaining a firm grip in the south and west, and even expanding in some areas, imperial control of their northernmost provinces was slipping, as attested by the Mossi raids on Macina. In 1433-1434, the Empire lost control of Timbuktu to the Tuareg, led by Akil Ag-Amalwal. Three years later, Oualata also fell into their hands. The rising Songhai Empire conquered Mema, one of Mali's oldest possessions, in 1465. It then seized Timbuktu from the Tuareg in 1468 under Sunni Ali Ber.In 1477, the Mossi emperor Nasséré made yet another raid into Macina, this time conquering it and the old province of BaGhana (Wagadou). In an attempt to stem the tide, Mansa Mahmud Keita II opened diplomatic relations with Portugal, receiving the envoys Pêro d'Évora and Gonçalo Enes in 1487.In 1493 he sent another envoy proposing an alliance against the threat of Tenguella, but this came to nothing. Songhai forces under the command of Askia Muhammad I defeated the Mali general Fati Quali Keita in 1502 and seized the province of Diafunu. In 1514, the Denianke dynasty was established in Tekrour and it was not long before the new kingdom of Great Fulo was warring against Mali's remaining provinces.

In 1544 or 1545, a Songhai force led by kanfari Dawud, who later succeeded his brother Askia Ishaq as ruler of the Songhai Empire, sacked the capital of Mali and purportedly used the royal palace as a latrine. However, the Songhai did not maintain their hold on the Malian capital. Mali's fortunes seem to have improved in the second half of the 16th century. Around 1550, Mali attacked Bighu in an effort to regain access to its gold.Songhai authority over Bendugu and Kala declined by 1571, and Mali may have been able to reassert some authority over them. The breakup of the Wolof Empire allowed Mali to reassert authority over some of its former subjects on the north bank of the Gambia, such as Wuli, by 1576.

Collapse The swan song of the Mali Empire came in 1599, under the reign of Mansa Mahmud IV. The Songhai Empire had fallen to the Saadi Sultanate of Morocco eight years earlier, and Mahmud sought to take advantage of their defeat by trying to capture Jenne.Mahmud sought support from several other rulers, including the governor of Kala, Bukar. Bukar professed his support, but believing Mahmud's situation to be hopeless, secretly went over to the Moroccans. The Malian and Moroccan armies fought at Jenne on 26 April, the last day of Ramadan, and the Moroccans were victorious thanks to their firearms and Bukar's support, but Mahmud was able to escape. Around 1610, Mahmud Keita IV died. Oral tradition states that he had three sons who fought over Manden's remains. No single Keita ever ruled Manden after Mahmud Keita IV's death, resulting in the end of the Mali Empire.

Nice!! I always thought Chege was a child prophet adopted by Mugo. Anyways, you did good. One very important thing I want you to meditate on then provide wisdom is what “Credo Mutwa “ said in one of his lectures, that this European had used Magic to tell all tribal leaders not to attack him. In some cases tribal leaders relinquished their authority and placed less competent people in place because they were told to do so by some “Spiritual Entity”. I was therefore very shocked to learn that Chege wa Kabiru said the same. Thank you so much for the story!!

Hard working, reliable, respectful and most majestic of people. It is impossible to defend the right of the British colonial governments to claim the lands of Kenya. leaving was obviously the right thing to do. I must ask you though, was there any value to Kenya in having gone through the colonial period?

Look at what Christianity did to White Culture? I was just listening to a video describing Black males as having superior genetic capacity for sports and athletics. Whites in Christian countries were often killed if they exhibited certain traits. This is not a complaint but appears to be a fact. Naturally, I support everything the church does in God's name and all but I can also be concerned about the loss of our natural, genetic humanity. Even if you are a poor African, perhaps you should cherish you own values and culture. With all of the contemporary discussion of discrimination and such there is much information and date to evaluate. But I believe this is the first time I have mentioned my concern that perhaps genetic traits may have been minimized or removed from the white genetic pool. Some Christians speak of being "born again". You are expected to accept new values and new ideas and live a new life. Or maybe not.

@themunchies123 okay then what are tge documents showing the French bought slaves from the swahili region in Kenya? And why does Kenya show Significantly in my ancestry. Understand that the history that is written in books is inaccurate, and a lot of it was destroyed during colonialism. I have ancestry not just from Kenya, there is a distinct signature from the massage tribe. Most of the enslaved people were taken from west Africa, but people were taken from all over Africa. The French English and portugese were active in tge eastern parts of Africa and traded with tge swahili, and thats why many diaspora have ancestry from east and southern Africa. Because these ships would pick up people's from those regions, resupply in south africa, or cape colony, then up through western Africa, and then to south america carribean or north America. This is how many of us ancestry from Ethiopia and somlalia, especially in the carribean, and south america, or from Mozambique or Madagascar, or even southern African tribes. I even have some north African ancestry. But MOST of my African ancestry comes from Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone. And most diaspora people are like this, but every now and then people like me pop up, and we are tge descendants of people who were kidnapped from Eastern Africa. Maybe stop just trusting conventional sources and look into collegiate sources, and other papers and you will see that the eastern slave trade was older that the European slave trade of African people. It actually gave rise to the transatlantic slave trade. We duasporeans are the result of ALL the different people of Africa mixing. And that I'd what makes us distinct. You can see all tribes in our ranks. I can recognize specific phenotypes in people living here in the usa alone and attribute them to certain people's in Africa. Most times it's west African people but every now and then, I do see people who look VERY Dinka, or Somali, some people even look like people from Kenya, or khoikhoi. And because we have been segregated for so long many of our families have kept our African ancestry relatively pure. Personally I am tge first generation that has been born mixed race in a long yome. My father is almost fully African mostly of igbo/ibibio ancestry.

@@omggiiirl2077 the french bought their slaves mostly from the Swahili settlements off the tanganyikan coast. Do not conflate the two. Current tribes inhabiting tanzania were the largest slave trading polities on that part of the continent. Look at a map of the most prominent slave routes in the continent almost none pass thru Kenya. Please do not infuse every single african nation in ur plight. If ur a black person in the americas 99% chance your ancestors were brought thru the west african trans atlantic slave route. The kamba cua were actually brought to paraguay as indentured servants not as slaves to help them in their war of independence against spain and they were amply rewarded after that before successive paraguayan govts decided to take their gifts.
