Hi everyone, I’m Shane. Join me as I explore, cook and camp out with my two dogs, Oakley and Bailey!
I started making TH-cam videos in early 2023, thank you for joining! It’s something I’ve thought about and wanted to do for a long time! I really love the video making process, sharing different places, mods to my truck setup and spending time outdoors with my family and our dogs! I try to post at least 1 video per month.
Join Oakley, Bailey and me as we journey, Into The Wilderness! Thanks for watching!

Truck Camping - Diesel Heater Fails Overnight | Steak & Veggies by the Campfire
What started as a relaxing truck bed camping adventure turned into a chilly challenge! With temperatures dropping to 21°F, I set up camp in the back of the truck, ready to enjoy a cozy night. Dinner was a mouthwatering New York strip steak with perfectly cooked veggies, paired with the warmth of a crackling campfire. Oakley and I really enjoyed the evening hanging out at camp!
The night took a turn when my diesel heater malfunctioned, leaving me and Oakley to face the freezing temperatures without heat, the thought of waking up the next morning seemed daunting. Despite the setback, the experience was unforgettable, and I learned some valuable lessons for cold-weather camping. The biggest being, bring a backup heat source!
Check out the highs and lows of this overnight adventure and discover how we abandoned the trip when things didn’t go as planned. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more camping stories and tips!
Cheers, Shane

Nice!!
Thank you! Appreciate that!
Can you go into the truck bed thru the rear window of the truck?
@@sweetbeep a child or pet could but not an adult, no. Both windows open but it’s only like 15” maybe…
@IntoTheWildernessWeGo could the back window 🪟 of the truck be altered to make it wider so an adult could pass thru?
@ hmm, not sure. I know Tundras have the whole back window that rolls down… and the toppers front window has the slider or it folds down completely that would match up. Not sure if you could modify a truck window. Though.
Heck ya that’s a sweet setup 👍
@@grandpasguitar6119 thank you! Appreciate that!!!
Nicely built cubbies, neat and quick stowage of gear, etc., but it looks like your feet extend down onto the tailgate for needed sleeping length. I'd want the ability to close it up fully.
@@kgrant3184 thank you! It does close up fully. I’m 6’4” and it’s a 6’4” bed so I just barely fit. 🤣
@@IntoTheWildernessWeGo Ah, good to know. In that case, superb job! 🙂
@ haha thank you!
It's cool, but the specifics are where this would fall apart for me. I need a truck I can use, so I need to be able to quickly take out the camping stuff within an hour and can serve as it's own storage
@@EdwardVelez this actually comes out really quick. It goes in in sections and can come out in about half hour. 👍
Now if only someone made these to come into kits to be assembled into beds of trucks. As a blue collar digital nomad who drives a Silverado I would love to buy one and just assemble it myself and I wonder if there is a market for something like that. The only think I might consider changing is the bed to be foldable or to sit up like a futon of sorts maybe. I’d buy it. I spend allot of time on the road and my truck is my office I sleep in the backseat of the truck not comfortable but gets it done I’m 5’7 and I have to curl up to sleep on the bench seat but this would be a game changer. Throw up solar panels in the top with starlink and we’re in business. Would require me to move tools into the cab instead of the bed but it’d be worth it.
@@saldanagaona thank you! I think they would sell for sure! There’s a couple companies doing similar stuff. Like Decked and Pack Products. The hard part would be custom fitting everything to each vehicles specific contours.
This is very nice

Great setup. I’ll watch some of your others vids for the answers too. Milwaukee mini chain saw is one of my favorite camping item I have. - Do you have a link for the tire mount wood table? - How did you mount the gun cases on topper?
Thanks man!! Love the little chainsaw! So useful. The tailgate table is here: a.co/d/5W4QKtS For the boxes, I did something similar to Micah’s setup at @overlandunderbudget. I used endless ratchet straps around the cross bars to each end. This way you can take them on and off easy. His video is here. I filmed a lot of my mods but still need to make the video. 🤦♂️ th-cam.com/video/UTrn-Q3if3s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=65_gtPWHByXZ_onz

@@matschmoon nice! I’m 6’4 so it’s just right. Would be nice to be able to stand up though. Maybe a pop up someday!
This is such a clever design. I really like your setup

Better than the couch when you wife kicks you out of bed, lol😅
@@AdvancedTennisFoundation-ph9zo haha yes! Nice comfy bed on the camper setup! 🤣
I probably would if it was in anything but a Ram. Also tents still work just fine, and if you gotta bring an ipad with you, you should probably just stay home.
Ok thanks for the advise. I’ll just stay home now. 😂
love it
@WatchCozyGames thank you, appreciate it!!!

Love your setup! I can’t decide on the ARE truck cap, or the Leer. Anyone have recommendations?
@@ChristopherSeaDawg thank you! Honestly, both are good and they’re pretty similar. I’d just make sure you get it carpeted and maybe have a roof rack installed factory. I put mine on with a kit.

Thank you, Karla! You can build one!!! 😁
Belo prato saudável !! Parabéns você é criativo
@@susannastellina4654 muito obrigado!
Love the setup! Simple and effective! The power station keeps the diesel heater going all night? Just move it up front when rolling and charge it back up I'm guessing? Sooo much better than a rooftop tent!!!
@@junky4x4 yes! Thank you! The power station does keep it running all night. And I have a 300w solar panel that recharges it very quickly if I’m stationary or I can plug it in while driving. Working out very well!
@@IntoTheWildernessWeGoAwesome! Is it mounted on the topper or just something you string out and plug in? I have an older slide in camper I just use magnets on my little 60watt panel. I leave it on top unless I'm in the dense trees then I'll string it out to a sunny spot
Dude you really need to start DATING 🤪🤪🤪

But now you lost your use with it as a truck
@@michaeljones4364 yeah no biggie for me. It’ll come out in 20 min if needed. But I also have a utility trailer for hauling anything.
@IntoTheWildernessWeGo I was wondering if you could slide the whole unit out as one or 2 sections.
@ actually more. Bottom left drawer box is one.(two if you take the drawer out). They floor pieces. The right side lower is one, right side upper wall is 3 pieces. Then left upper shelf if that was coming out too. Couldn’t do one because it wouldn’t fit through the topper door. Plus I built it in stages over time. Works out well!
Fantastic
Thank you! Appreciate it! 👊
Very very well done! it's perfect and so efficient/well organized. The best Ive seen :) Thank you.
@@carolineroy9026 thank you so much! Really appreciate it! 😊

@@IntoTheWildernessWeGo Thanks for answereing! Are there templates for it?

How to ruin a truck cap 101
@@superjet2771 haha that’s funny. Maybe I should change the title of the video to that. 🤣🤣🤣
@@IntoTheWildernessWeGo Its a really ergonomic and well thought out build brother and your skills are far, far better than mine, I could just never drill into my A.R.E. cap...multiple times. (yikes!) I went with a mid height cap, velcro nets and pockets (from camera cases) for bed side stuff, decked drawers for full time kitchen and gear storage and a full time queen mattress on top, I cover with a tarp when not in use. Because I camp maybe 10 days out of year, the goal was to preserve resale value, hide anything to do with boon docking or camping while being able to sleep quickly and comfortably. If I was single and had a dedicated truck to adventure out in, lord knows your build would kick ass.
@ appreciate all the kind words. I do keep the truck in the garage. And only drilled to install a roof rack kit which is all sealed up. Same kit a dealer would install on a new cap. I can have my build out in less than 20 min and truck bed looks bone stock. Could resale with zero issues. Only paid $250 for the topper also so I’m loving it. Sounds like you have a killer setup! Cheers. 👊
I see a face in the truck/tree reflection 🗿
Haha that’s cool! Never saw that. 🙌
Backup with propane. If you have 2=1 if you have 1=0
Yep, you’re right. I wish I would’ve brought my buddy heater along as a backup. Next time I will haha.
@@IntoTheWildernessWeGo yes sir. I've had to learn this the hard way in the cold in the blue mountains.
@ funny thing is I knew that. Not sure why I didn’t bring it! 🤣 I also have a whole other external all in one diesel heater I could’ve brought. Oh well, live and learn.
@@IntoTheWildernessWeGo be safe out there. See ya on the trail
oof that’s unfortunate! so sorry that happened!
