Slaven Bilic’s departure to Everton in the summer frees up cash for Redknapp to invest £1.5m in Israeli midfielder Eyal Berkovic and £1.2m in QPR’s three-time [player of the year Andy Impey. Another £500,000 on goalkeeper Craig Forrest and French full-back David Terrier arrives on a free transfer. What was the story with Kitson? Great player but did he not look after himself well or something? He was injured a lot, but a naturally fit, lean bloke.
10:35 Pearce knew what he was doing. He followed through with his elbow.
Thanks once again for a quality piece of work. Some decent tunes too.
Mel C and Bryan Adams, when you're gone.
Cheers rob good memories
3 decades back the 1990s.
Mostly known for his exotic hair dye colourings and not much else, I never rated Margas!
Chilean guy, another Javier was Mexican was better in the last decade during 2017-18 by saving the hammers from doom!, Javier Hernandez who scored his 50th international goal in 2018.
Great memories. Thanks for another great episode Rob. Happy new year mate 👍
Happy new year Tony!.
Daniel to Robert new years & family ⚒🎉 2025
3 enemy territory defeats in December 1998 for the hammers.
If watching these videos from week to week has reminded me of anything, it's how good Trevor Sinclair was for West Ham. I'd completely forgotten. He was absolutely electric for a while
Signed from QPR in January 1998 for £2.3 million pounds.
Just brilliant as always Rob, Happy New Year to you & looking forward to more Hammers nostalgia in 2025 ⚒️
Thanks. Happy new year to you too.
Happy new year Rob. From Auckland NZ
You too.
Thanks. New Year for you well before us!

Give me this team, style of football and UP. 4 players in the box attacking a ball, energy in midfield…. Should not of watched this after that shit show yesterday. Ashamed to say I had Chocolate Salty Balls on CD 😂. Happy New Year Rob, started watching from the Lyall years in the summer. Brilliant ⚒️
All the more reason to watch this after yesterday! Perhaps I should send it to Lopetegui. I dont mind the odd humping if the fare is good most of the time. Alas it's more a synptom of modern football than a particular manager. Caution is the key word, whether they admit it or not. Thanks for your support. I wont tell anyone about your chocolate salty balls. I had it too.
@ haha, top man! I was 12, so that’s my excuse 😂. Exactly that, we were always capable of the odd shocker but we played some lovely football and when we were on it, we was brilliant to watch.

Have a Happy New Year Rob! Many thanks for continuing to put these vids together. I know a lot of people who appreciate them. ⚒
5th in 98/99 West Ham were.
Spoiler alert!
Thank you sir, same to you.
In November, 3 wins over Leicester City, Derby County and Tottenham Hotspur put the hammers 2nd at the end of November 1998. But in December, Leeds United mashed West Ham 4-0 at Elland Road on 5-12-1998, Neil Ruddock got red-carded by 2003 Superstars ref Jeff Winter in the game for fouling Aussie Harry Kewell, Harry was not to know that 2 decades later the commonwealth games were in Australia!. 2 defeats at Middlesbrough and Arsenal worsened trips, playing on their own patch was better, they beat Everton and Coventry City to finish 6th at the end of December 1998.
On 13th January 1999, the hammers lost at Swansea City's vetch field thanks to a 28th minute swirler from Martin Thomas in the F.A Cup 3rd round replay. Goalie Shaka Hislop was sent the wrong side.
Loving the soundtrack to these too, been a hammer since 1995/1996 so nice to see the build up of how things went down just before i started my West Ham journey
Love these trips down memory lane thanks R.B⚒️👍

Brilliant!
Absolutely brilliant, going to enjoy this series. Very well made too, I remember exactly who I was hanging around with and what I was doing with all the extra clips of what was on TV and cinema. Thank you 👍💯
I was thinking only 2 days ago that I want to find a documentary about the Redknapp years for my football playlist, and I found this part of a WHOLE SERIES! I am over the moon since I was so much happier as a W.H.U fan back then, when Redknapp managed to sign players like Hartson and Kitson when we were struggling, the pay-off when they started scoring was all the better because we were facing relegation and that bit of smart business saved us. We would play entertaining football and when things clicked, like they briefly did back then with Ian Wright, Harrison, Kitson, Berkovic, Sinclair and all the future champions league winners coming through the academy got us into Europe via the Inter-toto cup. It was just so much more special when we qualified for Europe back then, I would take those days as a West Ham fan over this. modern era any day, it's just a personal preference. Thanks for the walk down memory lane on Xmas day, have a Good one👍💯👊
John Hartson left West Ham in shame!.
Rob, brilliant as always! Enjoy the upcoming festivities... Excuse my ignorance - why are some quarters of the Upton faithful not massive fans of Ian Wright? I've tried a Google, but what's the point when I can politely ask the encyclopedia, here? 😂
@@Bammers86 only at first there was some resistance to his signing purely because of his arsenal connections and that people didn’t like him. Soon changed though.
@@westhamhistory Thanks for the insight 👍🏻
Ian Wright scored 9 times for the hammers in 98/99.
@@joeandrews7329 Thanks, Raymond Babbit
This is why I can't stand Harston. That kick was disgusting. And especially with a man on the ground. And both these guts played for the team I hate the most Celtic.
Welshman.
Cheers Rob. Have a great Christmas matey.
You too!.
Cheers Rob - always look forward to the weekly nostalgia trip ⚒️⚒️ Happy Xmas
5th in 1998/99 West Ham were.
Love these videos Rob, was at most of these games. Just a minor observation on this one, when the Newcastle game was on, the comment on screen said something about West Ham fans up in the gods, but we were in the lower tier corner, the end our goals went in, as I just briefly saw myself 😆
I was at that game too and I was definitely up high see my ticket which is scanned in with the programme. We weren’t up as high as we are now but we were definitely upper tier. Must have had that whole corner? Can’t remember. I remember screaming at Wright not to shoot just before he scored.
@@westhamhistory The first time I remember being up high was January 3rd 2000, when we were 2-0 down on 84 mins and ended up drawing 2-2. It was freezing as they hadn’t put on the roof on the stand at that stage
Stuart Pearce's dismissal led to Newcastle's clear grief!.
If Hartson had really meant it Berkovic's head would have ended up in Whalebone Lane or in the Moby Dick's carpark
I can’t remember who said it, a former player, said Berkovic was lucky it was Hartson’s left foot. Had it been his right his head would have come off.
"3 blokes clear" 😂😂😂. How random! Cheers for this year Rob, have a good one mate ⚒️
2nd in November 1998 West Ham were.
Thanks Rob

Daniel ⚒ to Robert merry Christmas & family ⚒ a new years
West Ham are a silent team nowadays picking up points against poor performers in the PL.
Been waiting for this 👍
So have I!. A season when they were 5th and got an Intertoto competition place, then a UEFA competition 1!.
West Ham got mangled on enemy territory twice in October 1998, 3-0 at 1995 PL winners Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, and at freshly-promoted Charlton Athletic at The Valley 4-2. 2nd at the end of November the Hammers were!.
The Worthington cup exit was a start of many blips the Hammers endured in 1998/99.
@@joeandrews7329wish you’d have a blip and a day off Joe
Another brilliant piece of memorabilia. Happy days.
Old millennium.
Worst world cup song ever
Awful!.
Already looking forward to the next episode. From memory I think it was Berkovic that Hartson gave a boot to the nut. I am hoping it’s Joe Andrews rather than Berkovic though.
John Hartson left the Hammers on 15-1-1999 to join Joe Kinnear's Wimbledon.
😂😂
Music shit again/
Music is shit.
West Ham were 5th in 98/99.
I was at the Wimbledon game, totally delirious in the first half, abject disgust in the second, I remember saying to my brother after the game What the fuck just happened ? he replied Javier Margas he absolutely shit himself against their strikers
I was there too. First game having travelled from Wales.
@@ashton235 Chilean international Javier Margas let Jason Euell score quite easily. Another Javier, Javier Hernandez was Mexican, he played for the hammers in the last decade. He scored his 50th Mexican goal v South Korea in the 2018 world cup in a 2-0 victory, that sent Korean fans trudging to the airport before the Germany fixture!.
An early Christmas present , thanks Mr Banks !
5th in 98/99 the hammers came.
Another fabulous snapshot, Rob. Wright may have captained your Hammers on more occasions than he did at Arsenal under Rioch whilst Adams was out! RIP Oscar - absolutely rotten news 💔
9 times he scored in 98/99.
The match against Wimbledon made 10 year old me question why I supported west ham haha and it was my dad who was an orient fan say it who you have chosen to support cant change it now and it will get better hahahaha cheers dad.
The crazy gang were 3 adrift but won 4-3, remarkable!.
Thanks Rob Another great vid. Good cliffhanger 🤣⚒
August-September 1998.
😊😊 quality video rob cheers
Ian Wright scored 9 times in 98/99.
Ian Wright scored 9 times for the hammers in the 1998/1999 PL season, the season they got to Europe for finishing 5th. Javier Margas did not score until 22nd April 2000 on home ground v Coventry City when they won 5-0.
I scored on my mini-soccer debut for Norman Industries on 12-12-2018. I scored 11 times, played thrice, won the tournament on the night, plus the golden boot!. In my 1st game, I scored 5 times, and 3 in my 2nd and 3rd games!.
