M35 DD head shot. cleaned with oxalic acid and paraffin wax.

Because of editing problems there has not been any description given to what I use and do during the cleaning. 1st: I use Oxalic Acid dissolved in hot water, the amount does not matter, but the more acid you use, the stronger the effect. NOTE: ALWAYS MAKE A NEW OXALIC BATH ONCE IT TURNS YELLOW. 2nd: After a first clean I make a new oxalic bath. 3d: after cleaning I use parrafine wax to preserve...

Another great video mate looking forward to more!
Cool
Nice one!
"Pick a helmet to clean" Step 1: find a helmet Instructions unclear😂
I am thinking to make a "Bob Ross" special. Just like joy of painting, I make a video 'joy of cleaning a German helmet' :)
Vinegar will remove rust
Yes! But then I have to soak it for 5 years
Leave the bondo behind!
What is Bondo?
Would love that battledamged SS helmet
Noce find where did you find it
Border Holland/Germany
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY nice still looking for my first one
I can sell you one
Hey man, i have an uncleaned m42 single decal helmet. Would putting the helmet in oxalic acid not ruin the decal?
You have to be careful, it will not ruin the decal as long you keep an eye on it.
Yes true, preserve but don’t restore. Extra bondo please. Now learn not to be afraid of treating fabric to stop moths and your Winning!
Lovely piece
What kind of wax do you use?
I use parafinne wax. Acid free
Wow no way! 😨 That’s absolutely incredible! Amazing work 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Did you leave it 48hours straight in oxalic acid without rinsing ?
Yeah.
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY how many grams oxalic did you put in it 200?
Excellent job 🍻
Looks like that poor sod stepped on a mine , exit holes both sides
He was not a lucky man that is for sure. It indeed looks like a heads up explosion.
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY Great channel mate, new sub from the UK 👍👍
Polen oder Ostdeutschland?
Poland!
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY Great! It must have been long time ago;) Now it's very difficult to find something interesting in Western Poland, even in Küstrin and Weichsel- Nehrung:) Those were the days- back in 2000'
@@szaser2316 true that. I started hunting in that area back in the 90's. Golden days!
Hey I have a question regarding the oxalic acid. How long would you let a helmet sit in the acid. I have a couple of relics myself that need a good oxalic acid treatment, but I do not want to damage them.
Hey Birdy, oxalic acid will not damage the metal or paint. If you leave it in too long the clear metal might turn yellow. But this is fixable with a soda bath. I usually leave it in oxalic for one hour and then brush the helmet and leave it again for one hour and so on.
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY thank you so much about the information!
Well, when you have something in that condition...you can't lose...but you did well and protected it for years to come. Well done!!
nice, can you make a video were do dismantle it?
I need to find a new one first 😂
Were are you from?
@@finn4004 Originally from Norway, but I live in Belgium
There still should be some stuff to finde. But not as much. If you’re interested in some relic stuff i can send you a mail.

What happened to the millions of NAZI helmets that they manufactured? Was all of those scrapped along with weapons and such?
Most were handed over during surrender. Others thrown away etc...
Why is the helmet so small?
I have huge hands
Supermooi! Waar vindt je eigenlijk al deze voorwerpen?
Op akkers en bossen
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY Hoe vindt je ze dan? Met een metaaldetector?
@@David-yh4pq jazeker.

Welcome back!
Lots of footage but lack of time ...
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY can't wait to see more. 👍
what does the ice indicate?
Silver has a great capacity to conduct heat. Actually it is one of the best conductors. If you try any other sort of metal it won't melt that fast. Try lead, copper or zink and you will not have this effect. Try gold or silver and it directly eats away in the ice.
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY 👍
Do you think I could use a regular candle!?
Yeah, should not be a problem.
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY ok, thanks
Result?😁
What type of wax did you used?
Acid free parrafin wax
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY thanks:D
What could happened, if I use a regular parrafin wax?
@@cloudy_fn_2641 I guess not much :) I used normal also and never had difference.
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY thanks, and do you have any other tips about a preservation of helmets? If you do, can you please send me your instagram, it would help me a lot, because this is going to be my first try on preserving a helmet, so it would help me a lot to know some tips or tricks for making the helmet look good as it can be.
After a life time, we saw this Maschinenpistole is dead. Let's make a nice funeral to bury it again.. 😆😆
Real?
Hello… Sale German Helmet…?
Yes. Send me mail to olavmagnushalvorsen@gmail.com
Where can I buy oxalic acid?
I own a similar helmet to this one however the eagle is partially there but mainly just a faint silhouette now sadly. But love your work and great video!
Hi Olav I have subscriber to your channel and added you to my “ My Subscribers” listing BRILLIANT CHANNEL and love the finds
Thx bud! Love your channel also!
i really want to find a helmet but ive dug and dug and i can't find any tips? my friend found 4 2 helmets 2 kar98's
If you do lots of research you will be rewarded!
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY and i restored my helmet only the outside but i dont know about the inside because there is some original paint inside not much but would you do it only to fill the pours.
Got a helmet in and under the rust it looks like it was a soviet capture repaint but under that there's a German decal how does one clean that paint off without damaging the decal under it?
Take a cottonbud and mix some acetone with wather, and gently clean the pain with it. It takes some time but if you do it right it will come out clean
Fantastic work, does this process damage the bluing on the weapon? Thanks
yes, electrolysis removes rust, bluing and paint
I’d so be more careful with them !!
It does not. There was no blueing left due to corrosion
anything for sale? im a collector :)
Yes I have a few helmets. Contact me on mail. Olavmagnushalvorsen@gmail.com
if you were to sell that what for?

Great job. Would love to see you do the same with a WWI doughboy helmet.
where did you get the oxalic acid
I buy it in de shop. Some countries it is illegal.
Fantastic collection 👍🏻
Thx buddy!
at least half of them are MG3 post war belts I would sort them out
All war time dude. None of them post war. Found in a pit with MG42 and 15 helmets
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY The ones without stribe and the one with a stribe that goes all the way through are war time ones, everything else isn't, you can check that on the stamping on the linking end of the belt. Also post war ones have a hook shaped end and war time ones have a square one.
Very peculiar as it was found in a WW2 trash pit and all had WaA stamps.
@@WORLDWARRELICDISCOVERY well it would be something new to me, I've looked into it and couldnt find anything about those kind of belts in that timeline.
They where all together in a big alluminium box on the bottom of a ww2 dump.
I think your collection is looking great. I really like your decision to just clean them up and preserve them vs total restoration. IAs I type this I have two German stahlhelms en route...I'll do something very similar to this when they arrive.
