United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 27 พ.ค. 2018
We are Alexa, Pat, and Gilligan, the fat boat cat, cruising around Mexico on our Nordhavn 57 called Noeta. Follow our journey from the Pacific Northwest to California to Rhode Island to Mexico! Where to next?!
Gilligan the Boat Cat Visits the Vet
Even boat cats need to have their rabies shots and vaccines in order to visit other countries. In addition, Gilligan the Fat Boat Cat managed to get a couple fleas! Off to the vet in this short video so that we can leave for Mexico soon.

Episode 20: Mexico Import Paperwork Nightmare
มุมมอง 4.6K12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Will we be able to get into Mexico?! We've been trying for months to deal with an old uncanceled import permit that this boat has from 2006. If we can't cancel it, we can't go to Mexico on the boat! People have told us it's nearly impossible, while agents have said it will be 8 months and maybe they can do it, and another character telling us how to claim our boat has been abandoned in Mexico, ...
New Helm Chairs Finally!
มุมมอง 1.7K19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
After a major delay in the arrival of our new Stidd chairs, they finally arrived! Much better than our makeshift director’s chairs we had to cruise the Washington-Oregon coast with! #nordhavnyachts #stidd #nordhavn #nordhavn57
Episode 19: Finally Cruising - PNW to San Francisco
มุมมอง 4.9Kวันที่ผ่านมา
@mvnoeta finally gets to cruise south! After months of projects and some delays, we make the big left turn and head towards Mexico. With no helm chairs and crappy seas, it was an interesting passage. But when we got there we were greeted by family and friends from Red Rover (N55)! In the video we mention our Nordhavn Film Festival grand prize winning film Nordipeda - Check it out here: th-cam.c...
Episode 18: Final Projects Before Heading South
มุมมอง 3.6K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
We finish up a few details before making our way back to Mexico. In today's episode we take on some fuel, add a system to secure the dinghy, try (and fail) to fix a door, and add some new blinds. Lots to do before we leave! #mvnoeta #nordhavn #boating #nordhavnyachts #nordhavn57
Episode 17: The Shaft Saga is Over
มุมมอง 4K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Over the past couple of months we have experienced issues with our propeller shaft being out of alignment. This episode is all about the saga of the shaft, with a special interview with James Knight of @yachttechinc1754 explaining how it all went down and how it was solved. #nordhavn #nordhavn57 #doctornordhavn #mvnoeta
Episode 16: Noeta is Floating...Briefly
มุมมอง 3K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
In today's episode we explain why, after 31 days in the shipyard, and 3 days floating, we had to haul out of the water....again! And a few of the projects we were able to accomplish while floating. (And a special cameo by some TH-cam fans and one by Gilligan!) #doctornordhavn #nordhavn #mvnoeta @yachttechinc1754 @mvnoeta ...oops - Title image says Episode 15 - it's actually 16! :)

The HAPPY FACE is ON!
มุมมอง 753หลายเดือนก่อน
Our bulbous bow has its happy face finally! We painted it on our 50 footer, and now it adorns our 57 foot Nordhavn too. It makes people smile when they walk down the dock…and that makes us smile. Be Happy!

Episode 12: South from Alaska
มุมมอง 2.9K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
We bought a Nordhavn 57 in Alaska, now what!? While we very much wanted to cruise Alaska and bring it south ourselves, work and family commitments kept us from doing that. However, we were in luck. James Knight with @yachttechinc1754 offered to bring it south, with his wife Janice, her sister Kari, and his good friend Warwick. Noeta was in great hands. Today's episode shares their journey. *Spe...

Episode 8: We're Doing Something Crazy...Again!
Left a day before you in a Marlow 70. Got into some heavy weather and needed to overnight in Newport. Rest of the way was buttery.
If he wanders around the boat yard he will find fleas.
Yup- Vet said even fully indoor cats can get fleas. They come in on other people or items brought from outside.
Just so you know, Annies Mac and cheese with premade liquid cheese is our go to post or during overnight passage meals, with a cup of chili poured in the middle. Not always, but sometimes! It’s comfort food at its best! Needless to say I have 5 boxes stashed and should buy more before we leave!! 😂😂😂. Also, we don’t drink underway with one exception, we cracked a bottle of Champagne when we crossed under the bridge. Definitely a milestone as I’m a northern california girl from birth!! Welcome to California! I hope our paths meet on our way south!
That's awesome! We're headed your direction today! Leaving this evening, headed for Long Beach.
BRAVO and impressive. As I always say if you want it done right ask a woman. Never underestimate the power and drive of a woman. Your journey and tenacity was very informative. Thank you.
I’m no expert machinist but facing a coupling on the end of a shaft three feet from the lathe’s headstock is not good practice. That shaft will deflect.
Maybe the video didn't show the angle very well in order to see the support. So this is a 3 inch shaft supported in the chuck and it was in the center of the shaft at the coupling end - We trust James Knight and the machinist who has been doing this 50 years. No deflecting here :)
That's awesome! BTW like your background artwork showing the first NOETA 46.
Thanks! Our middle kiddo is a graphic design artist and drew that whole series for us ❤
Well done Alexa! Very informative. ! Thank you!
You know the nightmare all too well! 😅
That’s awesome congrats!! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!! 😁
YES🎉
We're so grateful this challenge is over :)
Wow! Congrats!!
Thanks! Can't even express how happy we are :)
AWESOME....awesome.....AwEsOmE !!!!!
Right?! We are so relieved! Thanks :)
Woohoo! Great update :)
It’s been a journey…but we’re on our way!
Great news. I knew you could do it one way are another. Now you can use the captains chairs sooner. Warm weather here you come.
Thanks! It was a tough one, but we're all set to enjoy some sunshine...and our new chairs!
Congratulations. Happy boating in Mexico!
Thanks, we're finally getting there!
Thanks- we’ll be there soon!
how do I find the seasick meds in the US? Do I need to head down to mexico?
When I was in the states, I was able to order them from a Canadian online pharmacy. Cinnarizine is the medicine, Stugeron is the brand name. Just google Canada pharmacy and you'll find a bunch of options....or just come on down to Mexico!
Great video, adventure and boat. I saw you parked in Richmond. I keep my sailboat Indigo, a Cape Dory 36, just next door to port as you motored down the canal. it was fun to catch sight of her in your video. Cheers.
Thanks so much! That's so cool, what a small world! Cheers to you and Indigo!
I can't believe y'all made that rough passage in director's chairs 😂
Yeah - they weren't super helpful - need some chairs? :)
@mvnoeta haha - if only you hadn't left Washington with them 🤣
That looks a lot better!
Right! And safer :)
Now that is a true helm. I was so confused about the camping chairs. Noeta is ready now.......Looks great and comfortable.
We were definitely living on the edge with those folding chairs 😂 Way more comfortable ( and safe) now!
❤❤ I felt so sorry for you with those folding chairs.
@@Bob-bo8ik Me too 😂😭
So glad you are in the 57 - best Nordhavn ever! Especially with a cat 😂. Kristina, Summer Star, exN57-08
We hear you! The 57 is the perfect size for us - and Gilligan! Thanks Kristina, for the shoutout.
Kraft Mac and Cheese hits different on passage!
Right?! Who knew! Will we see you when we get to Ensenada? 😊
Hi was wondering what navigation software you are running on the large screen in the pilot house?
@@johncottis9746 Hi! We’re running Time Zero Professional. We’ve used TZ before, but this pro version has some really nice features!
On your first haul out I(Steve) stop by to say hi on my way to look at another boat in the yard. Sorry I had to turn down the "in process refit tour" but time was not on my side that day. Glad you guys got out of here, we're starting to get weather systems that are producing gale force winds on the local waters and 15' seas on the coast. Do you have an opinion on the wave slap above the bulbous bow no NOETA? Is it just part of the general beating you take going into head seas or is the noise extra annoying?
@@Janchez Hi Steve! Great to hear from you. Yeah, glad we got out of there, we may not have found a window til next year! The bow slap is an annoying sound that we’ve gotten used to in head seas. In fact, on our 50, we didn’t know there was such a thing and got it in Long Island Sound- scared the crap out of us. Fortunately Nordhavn had written an article about it, so when I Googled it, I learned the boat was not, in fact, breaking in half…just a bow slap noise 😅
@@mvnoeta Thanks for the note, I was curious so I had to ask. In the video the noise didn't seem that bad but we all know it's tough for a video to capture everything well. Some of the noise just sounded like a wave slapping the side of the bow. Around the 12:50 mark in the video you did catch a couple sets of waves that really helped show how rough it was. You guys did a true shake down cruise, hopefully the rest of the way will just be cruise🙂
The Mac and cheese in honor is freaking cool and cute. I am one of those that SELDOM gets sea sick but almost always gets land sick after voyages.
Thanks Ryan - it may have just become a tradition we'll carry forward. Yeah, that land sick is a weird one!
Great video. You still appear to be in San Francisco. Any issues? I know Mexican paperwork is a nightmare.
We are still in San Francisco - maybe another 7-10 days. I got the paperwork fixed!! I went to Ensenada last week and sorted it out. So as soon as a weather window and Pat's schedules line up, we'll start heading south....stay tuned! Enjoy your time in Cabo!
Great video guys! Those Nordhavens are one tough boat. Do you find things breaking or shaking loose in those kind of seas?
Thanks! Every once in awhile, on a big one, something will fall off a counter or out of a shelf. We always leave it where it fell and say "that's where it wants to be!" I do clear off the galley counters and put some things in the sink - but other than us falling about, boat parts and things in the boat seem to stay where we left them....usually :)
Hi Alexa- this is your friend, Jordan from MT. So happy for you guys! Keep the updates coming, I’ll keep watching and the dream alive!
Hey Jordan! So glad you're still with us. The dream is definitely alive! Hope momma and baby are doing well!
Great video. We are buying a Nordhavn 46.
Enjoy the journey, you're going to love it! We loved our 46! If we weren't living aboard full time with 2 teens, a dog and a cat, we would probably still have ours. Hope to see you out there!
I was wondering about the chairs, also loved your film festival video 🎉
Thanks so much! That video was a blast to make and share. Yeah - the chairs are definitely not a new trend in power boating....wouldn't recommend it :)
I’m so glad y’all got on your way🎉 plus you those gourmet man & cheese bowls!
It was a long time coming, but we're finally on our way! (Super gourmet!) ;)
Appreciate your videos! What was the name of your N46 ?
Thanks!! It was named 'Ocean' when we bought it in 2017, we renamed it to Noeta. The people who bought it from us in San Francisco renamed it, but I don't remember what it was called. It was N4637.
Nice video thanks ❤ greetings from Ibiza Spain
Gracias! Saludos :) Would love to get over there one day!
Taking a break is a great idea. I have done a fair amount of West coast cruising. Have 4 people makes it so much easier than 2. And if you had your Stidds that would help a lot.
We finally got our Stidds! Next legs should be a more comfortable ride!
I enjoy your posts- we were in Anacordas when you were out of the water- we offered on Grandkito and heard all about your shaft challenges! Karsten and I hope to meet you guys one day and cruise together! Safe travels ❤
I'm sure we'll meet one day! That's how it always seems to work out. Good luck with Grandkito - amazing vessel!
Brief, yet nice your especially of the equipment adds and uses that make this episode a keeper for referral as we move forward to our power/live aboard power boat coming soon. I also like the port widebody concept for the interior space. Thanks again as I am new to your channel and learning much as we move from sail to power. 😊👍🏻 On to more episodes. ✨🌊💨🛥️🏝️👙🌞✨
Glad you're enjoying the channel! We really liked the widebody, made a huge difference in the salon and master - sometimes it made docking on the port side a challenge, but we always figured it out. We've got lots more to come!
Great episode, guys‼️‼️ Boaters helping boaters…..while having fun at the Spring Fling. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Question, what is the watch you both are wearing and your uses of it boating ?? Thank you. See you next time. ✨🌊💨🛥️🏝️👙🌞✨
Boaters make the best community! So my watch is a Garmin Swim - I use it for open water swimming, it maps and measures salt water swims. It doesn't really serve any boat purpose. Kat's is to track running as she is an avid runner. I wonder if they make a specific one for boaters? :) Thanks for watching!
Can you do a video about what makes Mexico home?
Great idea! Yes - we should be back there in a few weeks and we will add this to our 'back in Mexico' video. Thanks!
If you fueled in Washington i hope they gave you the price for using the fuel out of state. I knocks off 80 cents a gallon.
This is such a great system they have in place! Makes for REALLY affordable fuel.
Thanks for the update. Hopefully you saw lots of whales on you way south.
Sooo many whales! We were on the same migration pattern as they were :)
ACR now produces a battery powered light as a substitute for flares that don’t expire. I don’t dispose of my recently expired flares and save them as backup.
@@Lighthouse6b Yes! Good point- We have one! And I kept a few that expired in recent years- CG regs say you label them as EXPIRED and keep them separate. But I didn’t want to keep 20 year old ones on board- I didn’t trust the integrity. 😅
What did you use to oil the cutting board? I've had a nice board since new and never oiled it. Maybe I should. Thx !
Any food grade mineral oil is good. We used Clark's - it has a nice smell :) It will make it look like new!
Sight gauges don't need to be calibrated
If they are scaled at the wrong interval’s then they are not accurate.
I realize that we can see if there is fuel and about how much...but we discovered Nordhavn puts the markings on while the boat is on the hard, while being built. So the measurements are incorrect when the boat is floating. One side was off by 50 gallons! With Pat being a pilot, he likes to know exactly what we are working with at all times - so knowing the fuel is 'a few inches from the top' isn't good enough for him :) It didn't take long and now we have peace of mind of knowing exactly what we have. Thanks for watching!
@@JackBass9 Then they have been made wrong. They do not need to be calibrated.
@@Bob-bo8ik True but a lot of things are made wrong. The gas gauge on my jeep is not accurate.
That is not a sight gauge.
Seeing the before and after is awesome. I wish Patrick could be more careful with the fuel stoppage for calibration!! Step it up Pat!! .026 is sloppy work!😂
Really he could have been way closer- no attention to detail 😂
Glad the issue is fixed. It is great the boat yard stands behind there work. I am interested in the trip south. Did you stop anywhere. What shifts did you run with just two of you? We did a run from Portland to the Puget Sound with 5 of us. We had lots of fog. How far off the coast did you run? Did you have any issues with commercial crab pots?
Just finishing up the southbound video now! (Should be out by Sunday). But we stopped in Crescent City, then San Francisco. We generally run 3-4 hour sleep shifts, but that didn't work so well this time as I got super sick initially....good times. We stayed within a couple miles of shore, to avoid some bigger seas and only saw a couple crab pots - not too bad!
@@mvnoeta Looking forward to your next video. Going to be in Cabo first two weeks of November. Would you happen to be stopping around then on your way south?
Enjoy the sunshine! Cabo won't be one of our planned stops....we'll likely be rounding it in the last 3-4 weeks of November and then head either across the Sea to Puerto Vallarta or up the Baja to Loreto...haven't decided yet :) But have a great time!
Sounds like the prop repair facility is in Tacoma? I also gathered you aren't naming the shop which I understand. My point is when you say, "the prop shop" it's not actually The Prop Shop in Mukilto? Safe travels!
@@davidevans8357 Good point! No- it’s NOT in Mukiltio- I didn’t know that was the name of an actual business. I’ll see if I can add a note on the video or description to clarify. Thanks for pointing that out!
Please, please, please, do no ever stop making these videos. You guys had me at "Hola"... P.s. I love your "new" boat. Well..., to be correct, I love all Nordhavn's..
Awww- thanks! We really appreciate hearing that! We’ve got more coming!
Great video, great to see you guys are back out there. Thanks to James for explaining the shaft situation. I learned a lot. Thank you!
Thanks 👍 He always has words of wisdom!
I’m having two shafts checked. The boat went through a hurricane and ended up on the sidewalk from storm surge. I’m having both shafts checked. Can I ask what the shop charged to check just the shaft? Fortunate,h we had two spare props and on spare shaft. I enjoyed the episode.
Yikes!! Good luck! Not sure on the actual cost of the prop shop as they discounted their service since it was such a nightmare. I hope all goes well for you!
So happy you are on the way. I know it took longer, but you have the peace of mind. I am curious, what kind of chairs are you sitting in at the helm? Looks like camping chairs, around the firepit? Cannot wait to see the upcoming videos and your trip. Take care and be safe....
Thanks! 😂Awe ‘the chairs’- welp 2 months ago we ordered new STIDD chairs- they ended up taking way longer than anticipated. So, just before we left Washington, we bought these tall camping chairs! They work fine in calm seas- not so much in big swells. I may have tipped over once or twice 😅 Still waiting on our STIDD chairs!
James in no way shouldn't blame himself for the shaft issue at all. I doubt the machinist that quit didn't even look at it. Shit happens and I know that from being in the trucking industry for almost 25 yrs. James will getting my business in the near future. Love your channnel!!
@@Genxtrucker72 Exactly! And we don’t blame him at all- the guy didn’t do his job! Thanks for watching!
Great episode! If you're back in town and want to go to a game, let me know!
@@TKFourTwoOne Thanks so much!! I think we are headed south finally- but we appreciate the offer!
