This is a video of my son, JC, on the Zip-Line after climbing a rock wall at the father/son retreat our church sponsored. He had already conquered the first of two fears. The first was climbing the wall and getting a part of his fear of heights out of the way. The second part of that fear is stepping out into nothing, or jumping off the edge, whatever you want to call it. He came back from the zip exhilarated.
I was under the impression, until he came back from the bottom of the zip, that he was only doing the zip for fun. He had not told me this was a personal conquest. I knew he had this fear, I have it as well, however I have done zip lines and other recreational high platform types of things in the past, knowing I was safe in the harnesses or whatever. When he came running back up the hill, I knew something was different in his swagger. As we headed back toward the dorm to get our fishing gear, he told me the story of his conquest...it brought tears to my eyes, and I was the proudest father in camp for the rest of the day....
