i only loosened the 4 motor mount bolts on the engine about 1/2 inch and jacked the motor up it provide enough clearance to slide out the header. i did not remove it completly. i also removed the 4 bolts holding the ac compressor on to slide it out of the way a little. i already had the serpentine belt off though.

I do this for a living...my method is getting the belt out of the way then get coolant hose out the way,then remove idle pulley underneath the thermostat spout then remove two bolts securing the spout all that will give you all the room you need to get the alternator out and back in easily

A lot of questions on here about how much oil to put in the compressor. What you need to do is balance the new compressor to the oil removed from the oil one. Remove the compressor crankcase oil drain plug from the removed compressor and drain the refrigerant oil from the crankcase into a clean, graduated container. Drain the oil from both the suction and discharge ports into the same container. Rotate the compressor shaft to assist in draining the compressor. Measure and record the amount of oil drained from the removed compressor. This measurement will be used during installation of the replacement compressor. Inspect oil drained from removed compressor. Properly discard the used refrigerant oil. Balancing Procedure Note: The refrigerant oil in the A/C system must be balanced during compressor replacement. Note: Check the oil volume in the replacement compressor. The replacement compressor is shipped partially filled with refrigerant oil. The amount of oil has to be balanced according to below: Refer to the amounts of refrigerant oil recorded during the compressor removal and refrigerant recovery. If the sum of the amount of oil drained from the removed compressor and the amount of oil removed during refrigerant recovery is: Less than the oil volume in the replacement compressor, no balancing is required. Refill the replacement compressor with the amount removed. It contains the proper amount of oil. More than the oil volume in the replacement compressor, additional oil is required. Subtract the oil volume in the replacement compressor from the sum of removed oil (oil drained + oil recovered). This calculated difference is the amount of service oil that needs to be added to the replacement compressor. Add the additional oil needed and install the replacement compressor.

Did you test to see if the car would still run without the battery being connected? This way you know the alternator is bad.

You didn't have to bleed the brake lines or anything? That's the one that's deterring me from being confident in doing this myself

My man needs to have a flat head screw driver for prying yo. Watching him struggling with the philips to pry is painful.

Are other cars this difficult to remove the starter motor? This is my first ever car I've ever worked on and I didn't expect to be this difficult when working on a supposedly easier to work on Honda Fit.

Very useful video, thank you very much! One question, do you know where the coolant bleed valve/plug is on the Diesel CDI engine? I did a cooling flush on my 2009 ForTwo CDI but could not find the bleed point location that I know should be near the cylinder head to bleed the air out of the tubing. Now the car is overheating with the water not circulating and I guess full of air pockets everywhere. I've searched all over the Internet and the all the information available is only for the gasoline engine not the diesel. Thank you very much😊😊😊

All due respect sir, i love videos like this and appreciate the free education, however that's not a 98. That's a 3rd gen camry 96 at best. Idk if it's the same parts/process, but definitely not the correct car.

I just did my drivers side valve cover gasket on my 16 ram 1500. Took me 4 hrs! What a nightmare lol. Yes you can remove it without taking anything off other than the coils and injector plugs but putting it back on is the problem. The gasket gets pushed out while trying to wedge the cover back on so what helps is removing the brake booster bolts on the left side and loosening the ones on the right side and that will give you enough room to move it about a 1/2” to the side. I also moved the dip stick tube over it’s just held on by 1 nut. Also I’d use whatever product is recommended to “glue” the gasket in place so it doesn’t come out when trying to get the cover back on.
