Thank you - cant wait to read!!
"Full shade to argentinians" me, an argentinian: 🥺
But you're right of course. Racism in Argentina is a real issue that everybody likes to ignore
I'm not sure. Criticism is fine, but yours feels a bit... I don't know how else to put it, other than uncharitable and nitpicky. For example, his vampires biting and killing people is a reference to, and in context with, the romanticization of the vampire genre over the past decade or so. He's not claiming that his vampires are groundbreaking or unique-that's your assumption, I guess. I could go on, but what's the point when it's that frenzies and uncharitable.
Someone put this "goofy ass" book in a discord I'm in and I had to look up this review again... I FORGOT you had said it was basically just The Witcher. (Also, you said this was for white suburban women, but every single other review I saw was by a white suburban man being like "this is the best book I've ever read" lol)
This makes me realize I don't actually know anything about The Witcher (I've only read the first 2 books)
funny how the radfems in the comments are trying to say that this woman is "centering men" when this entire video is abt papers and books that WOMEN wrote
New hyperfixation unlocked, tysm!
So, you look great. Nailed the look! I appreciate this review so much. I'm a black American who just finished Mexican Gothic and I absolutely let it grow on me - if you know what I mean. You get it! The writing, the references, the storytelling, and conveyance of all of the feelings. . . It's all there. The racism was also weird to me and it through me off a little, at first because how many Mexicans did they try to lure into that grotesque family, over the years? EVERYBODY should have been telling that story just like the widely spread fairytales of yore to the point where NOBODY dare go into those mountains, past El Triunfo. To your questions, Agnes was Howard Doyle's wife in 1885. She "died" when he had just began to learn the power of the mushrooms and he chose her to serve as the host for the organism when he realized that a human mind can take the effects from super healing capabilities to life extension capabilities. Howard Doyle is damn near ancient and he bought soil to High Place from Europe, long ago, when he attempted to recreate the landscape from his home there, on the location he set up in Mexico. The book specifically talks about how he attempted to build an English garden, but the closest he came to it was a greenhouse. Noemi was essentially reduced to being spoiled, defiant, stylish, and flighty. I agree. It would have been nice to see more of a hero from the standpoint of a Native Mexican, but it's damn good reading, as is.
Just found this book in our local library in the miniscule english section in our middle-of-nowhere dutch library, it stood out to me because of the beautiful cover. Literally, I was oblivious to all the drama and quite excited about the book until I saw some reviews on goodreads. 😅 and now I'm here for the tea (love me some good tea hoarding too) and for your personality, instant new subscriber!
May i ask why you used ableist language?
Can you stop the "tone police"? And instead of trying to appeal to censorship, go for the ARGUMENT that she presented here. No wonder no one have patience to talk with feminists today...
im all about book piracy :) fuck them publishers and authors for that matter

A handmaiden in xir’s natural habitat.
And what makes you "The Great Poobah of RadFems"?
I should re-read 100 Years of Solitude, I don't remember anything about it and there's a Netflix adaptation coming as of the writing of this comment
Also, this one time I got into an argument with the actual Diane Duane (very childish of her) and I she said she'd donate her books to the public library system of Costa Rica, nothing has come up from that and I when I said so on Tumblr she came to me to be like "it is very hard, don't rush it" but I do not believe she has even think about it since
My apologies, I know not everyone is like this, but I feel these authors who whine about piracy are kind of entitled; I understand their frustration but they often sound like they deserve their books to be bought just because they wrote, adding their refusal to hold publisher's accountable for their exploitative practices is kinda bad
i text from country where amazon is banned, so i can't buy books here (even theoretically). but even if i could buy books there, i will never do it because of mad prices. for example, i've searched for some fresh releases (4th wing) and they cost about 14,99$??? i can get a PHYSICAL TRANSLATED copy for ≈10,49$ in local book shop. as a student who earns ≈97$ per week i will never buy an ebook for 15$ (+the commission for currency exchange in dollars) also my country has banned lgbtq+ media, so if i want to read or watch anything abot lgbtq+ i HAVE TO pirate. knowledge and information are not available in the same way around the world. americans (and some europeans too) should stick their head out of their comfortable information bubble and look at real life, where for the price of an e-book I can eat for a couple of days...
people in the south aren't being forced to read white people books. people in the south don't read and write novels.

okay knowing the plot of this book and seeing the title made me cackle. You're so correct 😂
You're literally just talking about feminism which is inherently anti trans and anti men
Are authors in Brazil that wrote about Palmares in English? This book could be catalyst for you or a Afro Brazilian to write a fictional story the POV enslaved or Indigenous perspectives.
At the time I went back to the Philippines to live for a couple of years, I worked for a Korean family as their kids' English tutor. I was able to buy used paperback books, which are about $2-3 USD each. But in Philippine Peso, my coworkes and friends balk at buying. When I need to come back here in the States, I gave away my books to them. At first they hesitated saying that I bought the books and didn't I want them. I told them that I can't carry them all back with me, and my uncle (who lives in the Philippines) wouldn't read them so the books will just decay. They were grateful. It made me realize that books are treasured there, even to the point that they would wrapped them in clear plastic covers to keep the covers clean. Whereas here in the States, a lot of people don't read anymore and books are just something to throw away.
Antigone is pronounced like Hermione (both Ancient Greek names). Anne-ti-goh-knee. Great shout, by the way! Perfect reference for commenting on the complexity of issues of legality vs morality.
Just found your video and I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't stand Lovecraft's writing. His monsters and mythos are cool, but the stories itself suck. I'm completely against censorship, but it's obvious that his fear of the unknown and "monsters" was due to bigotry
39:15 First, The Witcher; then, IWTV; and now, DRAGON AGE. This mf author is really personally offending ME. And I don't like it.
the radfems in the comments...yall sat there and watched a 48 minute video hating on u and ur friends. are u all masochists? im no feminism expert by any means but, to put it plainly, i think a lot of their beliefs are bullshit! this video was great and made add a book to my reading list lol
Awful, mean, discriminating woman.
Oh no guys the 'trans women' dont like rad femmism guess we need to pack it up 😢. Rad femism fights for the liberation of women this does not include men who define womanhood as a dress up party. 'Trans women' want to push themslves into every female space, even offended that they cannot push themselves into our fight for our own liberation. For a bunch of people who claim to be a women they do act like men imao.
I agree with some of the opinions in this thread and video. I also wanted to bring up another perspective as an American who has read pirated books. I lived in Iowa for a 1.5 years and visited some of the small towns in the state. I met many peers who grew up in a town where their high school graduating class was under 100 people. Some didn’t have libraries that were accessible or open. Some Americans can be tone deaf on nuanced and complex topics. There also are those who understand the complexity and acknowledge that the American experience is not the only experience.
28:33 "which wolf wins? none, they're both dead" makes me laugh every time, I reference it constantly. Unfortunately I do think of this book every time but that's the price I pay I guess
Some girl "no Gabriel you can't I'm on my period!" Gabriel "mmmm my favorite kind of blood" Ik this didn't happen but this is the level of edge in this book. I hate this book it's cringe fest garbage.
Honestly I think the issue with this kind of stuff is that it's not marketed as what it actually *is*: porn. Yes, the writing is abysmal. Yes, the dynamics are fucked. No, it doesn't really matter if it's just masturbation fodder for someone's horny idle thoughts. But publishers don't want to sell it as what it is, because a lot of their audience would get spooked. They want their porn to be cloaked in an aura of plausible deniability and pseudo-respectability by *calling* it something different. They need to pretend it's romantic when it's literally just porn. Now, if you're going to put story in your porn you might as well try to make it good but that's a whole other story. The way I see it, the only "dangerous" aspect to it is this cloak of respectability, this pretense of this stuff not being what it actually is. Without it, it's really just... harmless schlock.
i think it's funny that u say radfems don't understand what radicalism really is, but this video shows a fundamental misunderstanding of radical feminism
No - what is pointed here is that RadFems only move the goalpost to fit their needs for ideological relevance.
Who the fuck is Agnes?! Hahaha man I got lost at that part too. Believe me it's not the language barrier.
Dismissing radical feminism entirely is not only ignorant, but dangerous. Radfem environments are pretty much the only space where you can truly discuss decentering men, like advocating against sex work, porn, hyperfeminine beauty standards, etc. I don’t hear intersectional feminists talking about half of that. I also disagree that radfems advocate for gender essentialism, when many of us don’t want a husband, kids, or to abide by female stereotypes, which is a lot of what gender essentialism is. I understand being turned off by the transphobia, but there’s not a single feminist movement that’s perfect.
@@daniellelicht5093 TH-cam Famiengo Files by PhD Women’s Studies Famiengo
Do y'all include sex workers in your discussions about sex work?
RadFem is a complete waste of time - it is utopian to the point of uselessnes. Even me, a Marxist men, can see this. Besides, today the 3rd Wave Feminism has proven to be a FAILURE because it is drenched in "Liberal Feminism" ideology, which is just "Capitalism painted in pink", not a source of liberation.
@@daniellelicht5093 Why? Because you think you not wanting a husband, kids or abiding by female stereotypes will make you a weak and frail woman? You think that you being feminine will get you to be taken advantage of by men? Is that why you want to get rid of sex work, porn and hyperfemininity? You know what I think & Idc if you don’t care what I think because I’m a give my opinion anyway? I think you’re afraid what politically correct people would say if you showed any sign of you just being your original feminine self. I think you’re afraid of what people may say if you were to believe in the female stereotypical role of a woman being behind the man. And since when did you care about what other people think and say? Are you that desperate to fit in with the politically correct Conservative agenda that you would allow the opinions of some dumbasses affect you and how you go about living your life? Lady, you need to stop the paranoid behavior. That’s what you feminist women are: paranoid. You think that all a man wants to do with women is take advantage of them and not love and care for them. And what do you know what we men want to do to and with women? Have you asked millions & billions of men what’s their intention for them wanting to be with a woman? I doubt that you have done so. And besides, what if we men did want to do erotic and sexual things to women? What if today’s women do like being hyper sexual, hyper feminine human beings? You want to put an end to it because it doesn’t meet up to your conservative standards, morals, values, and principles? Who are you now, society’s politically correct mother? Ma’am, get off that shit okay! Ain’t nobody’s tryna hear your feminist motivational speech about women having boundaries and morals. And besides, you feminist women were the ones who preached to women about self acceptance, self love, self respect, having self esteem, and embracing their female sexuality out of female empowerment. Now you take it all back because we men wanted to get with appreciating women wanting to be open minded, free spirited and liberated from the oppression of their negativity and them feeling worthless to people? You feminist women were the ones talking all that soar high like an eagle mess. If you didn’t believe in any of the things to begin with, you shouldn’t have never opened your mouth in the first place. Y’all should’ve just kept quiet and not say anything. You feminist women have yourselves to blame for your choice of words to your own gender.
marxist feminism is perfect*
LMAO I WAS WORRIED UNTIL I LOOKED AT THE COMMENTS... i'm so glad people disagree.
Was just about to keep listening when you bagged out conservatives, but when you bagged the terfs that did it, too much crazy. Maybe I would suggest actually listening what they have to say instead of inserting your own ideas of what problems they have with trans invading their spaces.
I think it was her thigh that he bit? It says he tried to turn his head. I'll have to read that part again to be sure. I came in with high expectations from someone's 5 star review & it had me wondering if we read the same book. Gabriel reminds me of Roland from the dark tower series

I hope you finish this series soon. I think you have great and thought provoking conversations about Babel with a level headed critique of the good, not so good, and failure of Babel's writing and theme. I was a fan of the Poppy War despite its many flaws (like the lack of Speerly lore or characters other than Rin...) and maybe Babel would have benefited being a duology at minimum rather than a stand alone given how dense the subject matter it wants to contend with and acknowledging/dealing with the complicated world wide network of oppression that affects all oppressed peoples globally.

@@chrissyswifeyThe commenter probably didn't watch further than that, and instead stopped there, instead of checking to see that there's a section in the video where she explains feminist history and waves properly.
@@Steve-yn3cs true
@@chrissyswifey this is actually a big problem within feminism now, this petty infighting between the different waves. TERFs are actually the man-hating SJW stereotype that the Right has always been making generalizations concerning feminism, about. Funny enough now, we keep seeing Fascist Right Wing groups like the Proud Boys showing up at women's rallies now. For some weird reason. Someone did a well detailed job of explaining the Feminist to Fascist Pipeline, and how the Right is co-opting feminist language to recruit radical feminists to work with them. Similar with how they allied themselves with the Christian Right in the 80's during their anti-pornography campaigns. I can't even say if there's hope for the movement anymore. How can this work out for everybody when almost everybody is butting heads with each other?
Intersectional feminism for the win!!!
