In this video I take a rusty old ratchet and restore it into a beautiful and useful tool. I use a Baldor buffer to remove the rust and grime. I then use a sanding drum with 100, 220, 400 and 600 grit sanding paper. Then to get a really nice shine I use a 1200 soft sanding wheel and 3000 grit diamond paste on a felt pad. Thanks for watching

In this video I clean up a bunch old rusty machinist tooling with my new Baldor buffer. This buffer is amazing and doesn’t even get hot with over an hour of continuous use.

    I just picked up what I believe is an earlier version of that sander with 1/2 HP motor for $20. Looks like it'll restore nicely. Thanks for posting.

    The finish on this ratchet was Cadmium it was used from the 20’s up Into the 70’s it can be toxic if inhaled. The restoration is very nice but please be safer when restoring these types of tools.

      OH FFS......that's a mid to late 30's ratchet, the finish was polished steel. Plomb did have tools with cadmium, especially during the war....but that ain't one.

    I wouldn't use granite surface plate as a work surface. These are made for getting tight tolerances in machine work, and I'm guessing that having one re-surfaced to original specs would cost a lot of money, not to mention down time. The restoration was great. Thanks for the video
