You'd have better luck just driving and spotting bird of prey on lightposts. I see them everywhere. It gives them a good view of the ditches. Alas, I'm from Vancouver Island, Canada so this may not be relevant
First, that's a lot of geese. Second, six degrees isn't outside birding weather. Good call staying in the car
I've read the national VR handbook and find out local IL VR office appears to not follow that and picks & choose what they want to tell clients. I'd love to talk with you personally. Shouldn't they cover therapies that the public school didn't bother to do and what about all the things that should have gone into a transition plan that the school never created and has left the clients floundering and failing at local community college? What if the failures of the school became the failures of the student and left them owing repayment of financial aid but the VR says they won't pay for costs acquired previously even if it's education related. Can we talk?
I live in Texas and I’m in a power wheelchair as well and convenient transportation is a HASSLE…. It would be nice for me to get a accessible van but I don’t have the patience for the “run around”
They've got a bathroom like this at the newly remodeled Flint Public Library! I hate having to propell myself with wet hands, and I am still learning to grab paper towel first. But, the water/soap/dryer are really far back and my knees/feet hit the metal under the sink. Ugh.
Such an engaging video! 💡 A few tweaks in your SEO strategy or thumbnail design might help it perform even better. Let me know if I can help with that! 🌟
As a wheelchair user this would be helpful so I didn't have to get my wheelchair wet or reach high up for soap. But I am also part blind (I can see a little bit) and it would be hard to tell which is which, I might blow my soap everywhere thinking it's the water faucet. Braille labels would help a lot. But even if it's not perfect, any accessibility is good to have!
I feel your pain about the van. All I needed was hand controls (for some reason, my restriction disappeared off my license and DMV has no record of it). I started the process in October 2023 and just now got the quote. We'll probably have them installed in the spring - it was a bit more money than I expected. 😣
And this also doesn't use paper towels helping not only disabled people and the environment ❤
Cool never seen the automatic wheelchair lock… I've always anchored my wheelchair with straps
It is a game changer! And a time saver
I would love to see what brings you joy that is accessible for you! I've had to give up so many hobbies, art practices, and outdoor activities due to my disability progressing. Adapting is really hard to envision and figure out sometimes, I always love seeing how people make it work for them.
I love the evolution of the corner you shoot in. It looks so full of life, warm and welcoming. Welcome to the shelf new little bird friend!
Aw, thank you! I love it too 🥰
I’m so happy for you! I’m just now getting quotes to pay out of pocket for the swing arm in my explorer. That plus hand controls is gonna be at least $15k. I left a post in your breakdown of the van process thru your state video of the full costs of a van out of pocket. Yes TX has that same program but I have been trapped in my home for 2 yrs now since my injury.
If your plan is to go back to work, your state's VR program would be able to help pay for the lift! But, it will also take time and sometimes that is a compromise that can't be made
Yeah here in TX United Access you have a 2023 odyssey with in floor ramp at $80k and that doesn’t incl. hand controls nor an away to get to front seat to drive. A 2012 Honda Odyssey with ramp is $60k!!!! No hand controls which is another $12k at least. Swivel drivers chair is no telling!
I'm glad you managed to fix it, and happy new year to you and yours.
Success! If the bag works for you without the loop, maybe it's time to cut off and repurpose the loop. Lots of things can become a cat toy...
Lmboooo 😂 you’re hilarious. May I request more nature shots from the filthy mcnssty bedroom my dissbled butt is cooped up in. I csnt say I’m disappointed with this comedy of disabled errors tho.
Love the new chair

Hello, how are you? I am a regular viewer of your TH-cam channel. I came here to say that- Your content is always engaging and incredibly well-presented!" Good luck to you
Congratulations on your New Beautiful Van. We just purchased a used Handicap Van and its our first time buying one. I have been looking for a How to video ..for parking along a curb since we have a fold out ramp. The dealer said to practice against the curb a few times to get the hang of it. Please make a video so we can watch how to do it. Your video is very well done. Or if you know of a video we can watch please let me know. Thank you and safe travels 🙏💛⚘️
I've got a deviated septum. It sucks every night!
Noooo I hate this for you 😭 I'm such a baby about sinus issues I simply cannot cope
@DisabledInNature I'm always like "I can't breathe through my face!" And I drool all over my pillow haha
Bless you. Progressive MD here as well (OPMD). Had to retire as the “accommodations” made for me were ludicrous. I’m looking forward to following how you deal with a progressive MD.
I agree. Can’t live without my hand grabber.
1! ;)
Hey what's up
Very nice
I have a wheelchair, but it's a cheap folding one from Amazon that weighs a lot and is too big for the trunk of my car with my son's stroller in there as well. I'm currently in the process of building my own out of PVC and bike tires, because my doctor is being stubborn about whether or not she thinks I'm 'disabled enough' for a wheelchair and a parking placard... I'm diagnosed with POTS, I have 'disc narrowing' in my lumbar (L5-S1 disc, probably degeneration honestly), and getting checked for fibromyalgia soon. I'm in SO much pain from walking even with a rollator that I begin to cry. I can't stand in the kitchen to wash dishes or even heat up a cup of coffee in the microwave. And a shopping trip leaves me so worn out that I almost do nothing but sleep for the next 2 or 3 days... A wheelchair would help so much right now.
The one experience I had was talking to an older woman in Walmart while my fiance was in the checkout lane getting our groceries and moving supplies paid for. I had my rollator and was sitting on a bench resting, when she came up and asked if she could rest on the bench with me. She complimented my rollator (it's purple), and we got to talking about where I got it and why, and then the topic of my divorce and custody battle came up, and just general woman to woman chatting. As I was getting ready to leave (my fiance was done and had come over) she asked if she could add us to her prayers that night. I said a polite 'sure' and thanked her, even though it did make me a little uncomfortable (I'm not christian). I have a bit of a history with christianity, especially southern baptist... Being forced to go to church as a kid, and then traumatized with threats of going to hell for drawing a picture of Anubis during a time when I was very into Egyptian things... I wasn't even worshiping him. Just drawing him for fun... Yeesh. I'm now in a town that's more open minded, so I don't expect much offering of prayer. And if I get anything like that again, I will do my best to keep the 'Why..?' response in mind! I like that response. :) In the meantime... Back to building my manual wheelchair! (I have a disc issue that's getting worse, and my doctor is being stubborn.)
🚐You went through so much!
Great vid. You pulled in forward and exited facing forward. How did you turn the chair inside the van?
There is enough space in the area where I pull in to spin 360 degrees!
I just discovered your channel tonight, and I'm so thankful for you sharing your story! I am in the process of getting my first wheelchair, and this was a much-needed message. <3
Amazing! I'm glad my story is resonating with you. Best of luck! ☺️
this timeline video inspired me to make a video (hopefully! if i don't chicken out!) talking about the timeline to get my wheelchair. because i'm almost a year in. i wish these things were faster for all of us!
❤ your nails.
Early voted! LGBT for Trump!
🤣
aaa I cannot wait until we get to roll over crunchy leaves in our wheelchair!!!
This video comes at the perfect time for me ❤ I’m close to finishing up a program to become an X-ray tech, which is a pretty physically taxing job. I love the work, which has made the slow transition into more wheelchair use painful to accept. Similarly I chose this field already knowing it would be physically tough, but not fully realising I wouldn’t be able to do the work. It’s not exactly accessible, either. Hearing you are right where you want to be is really uplifting. So thank you.
Letting go of how you thought your career would turn out is really hard stuff. Feel the grief, but know that it's going to lead you somewhere awesome that you never expected. You just gotta keep going to find out ❤️
Love to see you thriving and know that your path impacts so many ❤
I get this too. The arrogance (and stupidity) of Christians is astounding. They fail to realize that prayer changes nothing (because their god is imaginary), but it makes them feel good, and that's what they're addicted to, they're like drug addicts. They fail to appreciate that I was once a stupid Christian just like them, and for many years, but fortunately I abandoned those false beliefs that were driven into my mind as a child, as they simply did not stand up to scrutiny. They also fail to appreciate that I spent a decade in rigorous debate with theists, and have read MANY books on the subject, so I know the hallucination very well. A few quotes on prayer: Praying is like a rocking chair - it will give you something to do, but it won't get you anywhere. (Gypsy Rose Lee) Two hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer. People who pray think god has arranged matters all wrong, and think they can instruct him on how to make them right. (Christopher Hitchens) If he is infinitely good, what reason should we have to fear him? If he is infinitely wise, why should we have doubts concerning our future? If he knows all, why warn him of our needs and fatigue him with our prayers? If he is everywhere, why even erect temples to him? (Percy Bysshe Shelley) Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion, and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish. He who has made great moral progress ceases to pray. (Immanuelle Kant) Man is a marvelous curiosity. He thinks he is the creator's pet. He even believes the creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes, and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him, and thinks he listens. Isn't it a quaint idea? (Mark Twain) Prayer, among sane people, has never superseded practical efforts to secure the desired end. (George Santayana) The inventor of the plow did more good than the maker of the first rosary, because, say what you will, plowing is better than praying. (Robert Ingersoll) The hands that help are better far than the lips that pray. (Robert Ingersoll) Labor is the only prayer that nature answers; it is the only prayer that deserves an answer; good, honest, noble work. (Robert Ingersoll) It may be that ministers really think that their prayers do good, and it may be that frogs imagine that their croaking brings spring. (Robert Ingersoll) Prayer has no place in public school, just like facts have no place in organized religion. (Superintendent Chalmers - The Simpsons) The sailor does not pray for wind, he learns to sail. (Gustaf Lindborg) Praying is politically correct schizophrenia. Prayers are to men as dolls are to children. They are not without use and comfort, but it is not easy to take them very seriously. (Samuel Butler) All prayers die in the air which they uselessly agitate. (Robert G. Ingersoll) What's the point of praying in the first place? If God has a divine plan, what's the point of praying? If what you want is in the divine plan, you will get it anyways; and if it's not, you won't get it because it's not in the divine plan. (George Carlin) Interestingly enough, I have found that the prayers I offer to the sun and the prayers I formerly offered to God are all answered at about the same 50% rate. (George Carlin) Prayers never bring anything. They may bring solace to the sap, the bigot, the ignorant, the aboriginal, and the lazy, but to the enlightened it is the same as asking Santa Claus to bring you something for Xmas. (W. C. Fields) How come God always drops in for GOOD publicity? I've never known God get BAD publicity. After any disaster - natural or otherwise - the few fortunate survivors will always be there spouting off about their prayers to God being answered and in so doing give credence to God. However, I have yet to read or hear anything from any of those whose prayers were completely ignored and who subsequently perished. It's a win win situation as far as God is concerned. (Anthony W, Allsop) Watch people pray. Most people do it with their eyes closed, and this should tell you something. Prayer - how to feel like you're contributing by doing nothing. You can pray all you want for god to move a mountain but until you bring a shovel and do all the work, it will never happen. All prayers are unanswered. If prayer worked, amputees would grow limbs. When a believer prays to a god to stop a wrong, is it because the deity doesn't know what's happening, or because it doesn't know it's wrong? Prayer of desperation is the adult manifestation of infantile crying. (John C. Wathey) Hands that help are holier than lips that pray. Prayer is a way to say to your God… "I know you have a plan, but I have a better idea".
🚐 Just found your videos, it’s great that you push through and accomplished so much. I don’t remember seeing you talking about how the van itself was being paid for. I am working with my state agency now and they will pay for modifications to a van that I will purchase. Are they paying for everything van and modifications? I’m going to go watch your third video to see but hopefully that information is there.
They didn't pay for my base van because they (incorrectly) told me that they couldn't!! Video to come at a later date allll about that haha but they totally can. And if they tell you they can't, contact your state's Client Assistance Program and they can help you. Direct them to Section 103, part 8 of the Rehabilitation Act, it says that transportation can be provided in connection with another VR service. The modifications are the VR service, the vehicle can be paid for in connection with that.
How is this garden bed design for you? Is the U-shape easier to work with or would it be better to have a tabletop style design that you can roll up to like a desk? Asking as a fellow ADA individual who is the default person that me community garden asks for advice 😅
It's okay, but definitely could be tweaked to be more accessible. I think a roll under design would be great! I have limited reach so the U shape was to save space to fill with dirt that I wouldn't be able to reach anyways. I can't roll into the middle of this bed, but being able to would be helpful. My husband built these beds for me when we moved into this house, I'm grateful for what I got! But one day when we have more money I will definitely be having more custom ones built lol
I had a stranger tell me that Jesus would cure me, if I prayed enough. I said, "Who do you think gave me this in the first place?" They never seem to realize that their all-powerful deity is responsible for the bad stuff, too. Having to grovel before someone so they'll stop hurting you isn't faith. It's extortion.
