I get SOOO sick of hearing people misuse the term "capitalism." Capitalism is empowering the worker to enjoy the use, choice and benefits of his labor in a market environment. I see. In the movie there are lot of cold cynical characters too. The captain ask Vickers: are you a robot? Later she kiss the fathers hand while wishing him to die. An intelligence not moderated by heart is really dangerous thats why creating an AI it's the supreme sin. You helped me seeing better the moral undercurrent of the movie, which is in every aspect a biblical cautionery tale. Waiting for the Prometheus second part video 😄

I think you are on the right track with this video, perhaps the engineer was offended on a much deeper and personal level by Weyland. Remember that the engineer's way of life as shown in the opening scene in Prometheus was to sacrifice themselves using the black goo to seed new life on a new world. Later at the end of the film, not only does Weyland parade around his new answer to the next generation of life in the android David, he also asks the engineer for eternal life for himself. Asking for eternal life and creating new synthetic life are the exact opposite of self sacrifice, and would be seen as supremely offensive to the engineer's entire philosophy. The whole movie is about humans not being ready for the "next level" just as in the Greek myth of Prometheus, the the Gods did not see humans as ready to receive the gift of fire. The movie is chalk full of examples of people reaching for something they are not ready for and completely blundering the opportunities in front of them. The engineer ripping the head off of David and beating Weyland to death with it should come as no surprise at all.

We're still tryna figure out a movie's splot like we're deciphering hieroglyphs from the fucking Rosetta Stone, I bet Ridley Scott can't explain what this fever dream of a plot is about even if his life depended on it, all he cares about now is fleshing out the story of a psychotic, obnoxious, icky looking android with daddy issues and God complex. I watched Prometheus 12yrs ago in the theater without knowing is actually Alien series. End up have zero expectation until the alien pop out from engineer body. It's a great movie.

replicants aren't artificial robots though, they are genetically engineered and biological. they are supra human. the engineers were wiping out humanity way before we came up with AI, it is possible our creation was by a rogue faction and unsanctioned.

One point of disagreement: The replicants and Blade Runner are not AI, nor are they programmed. They are genetically engineered human beings. That's the whole point of the story. They are treated as manufactured commodities, despite having all of the traits of people. Even supposedly their inability to empathise is shown to be contentious.

The Hidden message of Prometheus and Covenant: nothing. R Scott had no clue what he was doing in these two movies. He's fouled the Aline IP beyond recognition. Human origins, AI / Andriods and transhumanism was shamlessly copy-and-pasted from 2001: A Space Odessey. The Black Goo was another shameless copy and paste from the X-Files. What story line? shallow meaningless pointless and a deliberate move to trash the original Alien magic and mystery. Also, the focus on AI and genetic engineering was full of plot holes and supid unrealistic illogical disconnected leaps where it was meant to expand the lore. Lazy uninspired storyline and script, dumb actors, and has nothing to do with Science Fiction. Also there is a hint that the success of the sequel, Aliens, under the directorship of J Cameron, which elevated the sequel to a classic status, may not have sat well with Scott. Remember Star Trek? That was the age of true Sci-Fi! R Scott may have been the best thing that had happened to the original Alien movie, but by golly, he's the worst thing to happen to the Alien franchise! The Alien franchise ended with Alien 3, as far as I am concerend.

I don’t think the Engineers created mankind. Also the human mind to link everything together shouldn’t be applied to another species (not race by the way. A totally different organism since it’s been modified genetically). What if we created them? And stop applying things to artificial things that make us look like fools. Maybe that’s why they don’t want us around. Because of the dumb ways of thinking.

Prometheus I'd a great movie. If all you WHINERS didn't mouth off on the internet about it then it wouldn't have messed up Alien Covenant. THEN, all you WHINERS go to the internet saying he messed up Covenant! He only messed up Covenant because he listened to all the WHINING online about Prometheus! Stfu and let the man make his movies! Prometheus IS brilliant! It IS HIS movie afterall! Fifeld and Millburn got lost because the mapping machines Fifeld released hadn't made it to that part of the friggin' ship yet up tio that point! There's 1 plot hole filled. The only part I found iffy was when Charlie took his helmet off after finding breathable air in that 1 part of the Alien ship

I think you're right about some things but Alien 3's android has essentially no part in the plot of that movie while Alien, Aliens, Resurrection, Prometheus, and Covenant pretty much all revolved around the droid. Aliens is a bit tougher to make the connection as he was basically a 'good' robot in that one and although he played a big part in that movie, it wasn't the 'a.i. is bad m'kay' you describe in this vid. I suppose since we learn that Bishop was created with behavioral inhibitors, and the fact that aliens takes place after the events of prometheus/covenant, rules were put in place preventing more David's from turning sentient/rogue.

This was my first impression of a race that seems to value bio engineering over all its technology and have sacred values in it were they needed to give their life to create life. Ai would be an abomination to them having the power without the connection and shows when the android kills an entire planet.

the scene where they run in a straight line from the rolling ship is a metaphor for humanity escaping in a straight line from AI! we know the dangers but we do nothing to prevent them hehe

Had they just never CUT the Engineer's monologue to Peter Weyland, Prometheus would've been received infinitely better.

Dunno I thought the medical pod scene was the tell, it was a stand in for the medical system in the real world and how it only caters to a narrow band of the population. AI can take on other forms, institutions being an early form. In a sense we already have it....just don't know who it works for. Maybe paying attention to David's humanity early on by the crew instead of being fixated on the grand mission, he was being treated like a tool. I remember being treated as an intelligent tool, a lot of us were. I think I could've been assigned a serial number and people would not have noticed, the new Alien: Romulus film seems to understand the android metaphor and the irl history.
