Here's a quick flat picking play along: Tony's version of The Likes of Me (originally by Jerry Reed). This is great practice in D and features good use of the flat 5 note (see my video on the Tony Rice Scale: th-cam.com/video/UtGthTKTFsc/w-d-xo.html).
I've included a printable PDF and an interactive TAB above, and the backing track you heard at the beginning of the video at 102 BPM as well as 95 & 85 BPM.
As always you can download the free TEF viewer to make the TAB (TEF file) playable, slow it down, and repeat sections as needed.
Happy picking!

How does this chorus pedal sound on acoustic guitar?
มุมมอง 18510 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's easy to fall in love with the sound of a subtle chorus on acoustic guitar. I think of Russ Barenberg, James Taylor, the 80s, the 90s, and even some contemporary artists like Billy Strings. Anyhow, I wondered, how did they get the sound? So I concocted a way to use this old Arion SCH-1 with a mic (to avoid hearing the pickup) and a bonus was running it in stereo which definitely yields a de...

Sonic stomp like pedal for acoustic guitar | effective acoustic EQ
I’m currently learning my pentatonic minor box patterns are these the same thing only modified? Is that first section an open scale form?
Yes and yes! There’s a couple extra notes and it’s played over a major progression. Then there’s some unique phrasing like his staggered 16th note runs and what not. Best of luck!
Great licks!
Great job
Thanks for the lesson. I am curious what Tony would typically play over the changes? For example this works great over the G (1 chord), when he switches to the C (4 chord), and the D (5 chord), does he stay in this type of G minor pentatonic scale over the C and focus more on the notes in the C Major Scale, or move toward a C Minor Pentatonic or Major Pentatonic based scale for the C? And the D could be more like a Dominant so how did this guide where Tony was going? Much appreciated. Also are you missing the B on the A string, 2nd fret?
Excellent question. I keep meaning to expand on this with more videos but have been short of time. This works well over the one especially but I would try going back to G major scale for IV (C) and V (D). There are other progressions that this scale falls more into place with like 1,3 (Bb in this case),4 chords. The homework would be listening to specific songs, noting the progression and when he’s taping into this scale. Hopefully that helps! I’ll try to expand on it in a future video. Yes! Good catch. I added in the resources but couldn’t in the video :/ take care!
@@mularkeymusic Awesome. Thanks for the advice.

What's your experience with new cones? Do they require a break-in time like a new speaker? Have you found a substantial difference?
Damn son
Hey, can I use this rhythm for the Old Rugged Cross gospel? Ciao, potrei usare questa ritmica anche per il gospel Old rugged cross?
Hola, this rhythm is for 4/4 time signature, Old Rugged Cross is in 3/4 so you’ll need to adapt it. If you want a bluegrass feel I’d recommend playing on these beats: 1, 2, 2 &, 3 with the down down up down strumming pattern. Here’s an example for reference: th-cam.com/video/u0KbZwLb7FQ/w-d-xo.html. Ciao!
yes another inspiring video. keep em coming and we'll be celebrating 10k, then 100k subscribers in no time.
Many thanks, Rocco!! 🙏

Will the tab work with guitar pro
Good question! I do include a TEF file which can be interacted with TablEdits free viewer: tabledit.com/tefview/download.shtml. I’m not sure if Guitar Pro accepts the TEF format 🤷♂️
Thank my friend great arrangement of a great song I have it worked out 80 % by ear .. but I’ll buy the tab anyway bro to support your channel I subscribed and it’s a good arrangement cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪 Brian

Thanks, nice lesson.
my fingers have a mind of their own. or maybe its me.
😂try learning the thumb part first and maybe the fingers will listen
I am just diggin' this particular fingerstyle pattern. Thanks!
Thank you! You might also like my arrangement of City of New Orleans and Walk on Boy. Cheers 🍻
@@mularkeymusic I most certainly do! Thank you for those suggestions. I'm just beginning to explore all of it. It took me a few years to appreciate the virtuosity and music of these styles. I grew up learning guitar by listening to Steve Howe and some of his fingerstyle tunes (Meadow Rag, All's a Chord, Clap...). But I went on to study classical guitar and never seriously dug into Travis Picking until I acquired a proper steel-string 000 guitar a couple weeks ago. Even with a Classical Guitar background, this is so challenging, in all the right ways. 😁
I’d never heard those Steve Howe tunes, wild stuff! Congrats on the 000 & best of luck on the journey. I studied classical piano for a long time, it all transfers somehow 👍 Well said, it’s addicting and then you can make it as hard as you’d like, it’s infinite.
❤
That takes a lot of skill but I perfer single notes as opposed to double notes. The tune is more discernible in my opinion.
That was pretty awesome. Simple chords but a nice picking pattern to make it all sound very unique. Thanks for posting this video.
Is that a S.C. TR or Vintage Artist? What year? What strings and gauge are you using? Flat Pick?
Hey Bill! It’s a S.C. D model (rosewood). Thought it was a bit older but just dated it - 2001. In this video I was using Martin Monel (mediums), flat pick isn’t in production, closest in sound would be a thin blue chip or ultex.
Have you tried the Martin MA550T treated P.B. med. strings?@@mularkeymusic
awesome! thanks for the tabs
Glad they helped, all the best!
This is amazing! I’ve already suffered through learning the run so it’s all downhill from here. Hopefully they get easier 🙏 thank you for this video
Good work! They always get easier the more you do :) just muscle memory and connecting the dots. Best of luck, have fun!
Cool stuff thanks!
Oh these are nice, thanks for this! Got some learnin' to do now.
You’re welcome!! Hope it helps, happy pickin’ 🤘🏻
You are preaching to the choir, but I enjoy it just the same.
😂 Amen brother!
Nice lick 🙌
😊 keep making vids.
