How to turn a Logo into a DXF file for plasma cutting
มุมมอง 3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I explain how to grab a logo from a picture on the internet and make a DXF file useable for plasma cutting. I know I say in the intro "real quick" and I tried to edit out everything that didn't have to be in the video. Thanks for watching.

    Just got mine and noticed the gantry tube is rounded on the tall sides and doesn't sit well in the machined pocket. Is this pretty common?

    The one thing that is worse than their instructions, is their support. I opened a support request, and the entirety of their response was to read the fucking manual. As if I hadn't been reading it for days, during the assembly.

    Great video. I don't cut out of big sheets, I'm trying to figure out a way to position my material in the middle of my table for a 10 x 10 inch square piece of plate. I usually use small scrap so I want to be able to stick the corner into the same exact spot anywhere on the table the, not necessarily near the edge.

    It really organizes the tools - but weld splatter is going to get on all of them In addition, you can't get close to the table as the tools will keep you away - and snag clothes, etc. Don't see it working out in the long run - but a good vid, none the less, to organize things and keep them at hand

    Thanks, Clyde. I've been wondering how to remove sheets, and then later put them back on the table and resume cutting in the unused portions, but yet see the used cut areas, so I don't place new pieces on the wire. I'm ordering my new Crossfire soon. I'll look into Vectric Vcarve Pro soon. What about that program do you like, and why do you use it?

    • @clydehunt4405
      @clydehunt4405 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vectric VCarve Pro is a very robust software program. It is very intuitive to me and easy to use. The main reason I use it is because I already have it for other CNC work. It has the capability of 3D tool paths for a milling wood on a CNC. If I didn’t have the wood CNC I probably would have gone with another Vectric program like Cut 2d pro. The pro versions of Vectric’s software are very similar to the regular versions except they are limited to 24x24 inches I believe. And I think that is only the tool paths. I make my plasma tool paths in sheetcam so if it was me I would probably just try regular cut2d with sheetcam and you could save about $500

      @@clydehunt4405 Thanks. Since the table i'm buying is a Crossfire 25"x33", and I only cut plasma, your 2d recommendation is spot on.

    Hey Clyde, I have a question for you. In this video you showed us SheetCam and Fire Control. You also talked about DXF files. It seems like you added cut paths (Inner, Outer or Centered plus Lead In and Lead Out) in Sheet Cam. I'm guessing you use Sheet Cam to design your part and then import the file to Fire Control to cutout your design. I'm not to familiar with Sheet Cam but do well in Autocad and Flexisign. Both Autocad and Flexisign can export DXF files. My question is, do you think that importing DXF files from either Autocad or Flexisign would work in SheetCam so that the lead in, lead out and cut paths can be added? Thanks Doug

    • @clydehunt4405
      @clydehunt4405 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doug, I actually design in Vectric Vcarve Pro. It’s a CNC design program. Any DXF if you get the layers correct will work. Make sure all vectors are closed if inside or outside. Then save vectors to layers according to how you want to cut them. Inside, outside or on path.

    • @clydehunt4405
      @clydehunt4405 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charlie the g-code you make in sheetcam or fusion doesn’t tell fire control what the material is. Are you seeing the 4x8 outline of the system? If you have your material grounded to the front left corner, when you set your material up in sheetcam you have to know that they will match up in fire control. You can do a dry run if your not 100%

      If you don't already have experiance in fusion 360 absolutely. Do you have any CAD background where you can make DXF files?

    • @bigrednick100
      @bigrednick100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clydehunt4405 zero CAD background. I have fusion and have been following TH-cam videos on it and working long with them making very basic 3D objects. But that’s about it.

    • @clydehunt4405
      @clydehunt4405 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      CAD is probably the biggest barrier to entry. there are lots and lots of ways to make files. Fusion 360 is the Lamborghini of CAD programs... imagine someone trying to learn to drive stick for the first time in a lambo tho... it was very hard to get started in fusion for me. I struggled to keep things from rotating on me. I grew up in Autocad and even though its the same company its very different... I mainly use Vectric Vcarve pro. I've gotten good at it so its what i stick with and I haven't been doing any 3d modeling. I wouldn't suggest anyone start with Fusion if they didn't think they were going to grow into something else like isometric modeling or doing 3d renders. I did a video on using Lightburn to make a DXF File. you can check that out if you want. Lightburn is where i would send anyone that was getting their first plasma machine. its very intuitive and for only 60 bucks it can do almost any 2d thing that you want. Fusion also does CAM, but from what i hear its complicated. I've never made tool paths in fusion for plasma, just CNC routers. Sheet cam is where it is for me. its only $150 and you could probably master it in a week.

I believe from the time I gave my deposit, to the full payment /shipping to the delivery at my shop in Arlington Wa. It was 3 months. When it arrives and you see those two crates, stand there and take it all in. meanwhile your gonna have a shit eating grin on you face from the task ahead of the assembly, witch is super easy from the step by step instructions that Langmuir systems provide. They have all the hardware, in numbered and labeled bags. Witch are corresponding with the step-by-step instructions. Enjoy fellas!! Well worth the wait this table is amazing for the price point.
