Len Kemp was born in November 1919 and was drafted into the British Army in January 1940. After serving in the BEF and being evacuated from Dunkirk, he was transferred into the 46th Reconnaissance Regiment, and later saw action in the Allied Campaigns in Tunisia and Italy.
Here he describes an incident in Tunisia in June 1943, where the men of his unit chose not to cheer when Winston Churchill was driven past them, but later cheered a car carrying the Mayor of Tunis.
