The Vogons are on their way.
They're cloaked. Duh.
The real question is why haven't they found us and made themselves known, not why haven't we found them. We're either alone or effectively alone. The rise of technological civilizations are far more rare than we could imagine. It's not a single "Great Filter", it's innumerable Great Filters. The inevitably of us delving into technology that could destroy us, has no bounds. Germ warfare, chemical warfare, nuclear warfare, any of which could trigger the end of civilization if we lost control of it. That could still happen. So many things could disrupt the delicate balance humans need to survive. Tinkering with our DNA will eventually bring on unforeseeable disasters. Tinkering with physics at the quantum level could bring unknowable results. AI is another possible Frankenstein monster that could result in our demise, even if it just does all the thinking for us. We could lose our own creativity and mental sharpness being dependent on AI doing everything for us. Our earth and sun may shift in a way that humans can't survive. It's happened before and in time will happen again. A nearby gamma ray burst could destroy all life on earth or our entire galaxy. Massive meteorites, the list goes on and on for extinction level events, that the countdowns are already in progress. As Carl Sagan said, there is no one coming to save us from ourselves. We need to do everything we can to protect our home, the only one we know and learn to live together in peace and be kind to each other.
"our universe is vast, almost incomprehensibly so" - false statement. It is not 'almost' incomprehensible, but most certainly incompressible.
Maybe we exist within someone's video game and the Earth's solar system is the game map. SkinWalker Ranch may have a portal to another game map. 🤣🤣🤣
Sounds like Sir Ian McKellen
Simple: intelligent life is amazingly rare.
I disagree.
What if they are differently intelligent
This is the proper voice for the radio narration of the War of the Worlds.
Not centuries 😂
Were in a simulation. There isnt anyone else
If we're in a simulation, then that means there is someone, or something else.
I think the most likely solution to the Fermi Paradox is simply that we're the first species to get this far. There could be many planets where the most intelligent species has barely invented spears and hand axes. There could be many planets where they just barely reached the Middle Ages. But no species except ourselves has invented radio or spaceships yet.
You were created by aliens ....
Nice show. Information provided was both known but also had some own insight.
To far away, speeds needed to travel those massive distances,to dangerous..or impossible..and thats if there is anything out there at all
They talk about "the great filter", and type 1,2, and 3 civilizations. Maybe the great filter is for any species trying to harness that type of power. Maybe if we met a species more intelligent than us and started talking about type 3 civilizations, they might look at us like we're stupid and say "what is wrong with you???" "Why do you monkees think you need that much power?" Maybe even trying to get that type of power is a death sentence. All these questions about, maybe we're not listening the right way, could be nonsense. Why do we automatically assume that intelligence means thinking like us? The only reason we need to learn how to leave this planet is because we're so stupid that we destroyed it. Every step we take forward technologically destroys the place we live a little more. Is that intelligence? I don't think it is. At the end, he says "maybe we're the only ones who are successful". Who the fuck says we're successful? From where I'm standing, it looks to me like we're fucked.
There could be life in every star system in the universe, and we still might never have contact. The distance is just insurmountable. If faster than light speed is impossible. And it probably is, we'll never contact life from outside of earth. And maybe most intelligent life lives in harmony with the nature of their planet, and leaving the planet is never an idea that they have.
Bruh you don’t need ftl travel. You need close to light with time dilation
We live in cage that blinds us from being able to see other beings. WE ARE NOT READY.
take your garbage off the internet please
They are too smart to come here. They only visit planets that have intelligent life.
Think about it like deadpool or wolverine, are they still the same versions of themselves? Yes of course, so the same can be said for the ship.
Really I wouldn't say stumped I would say stupid you're stupid if you can't figure this out
Really people are stumped by this they original ship is the ship that has the original parts if they've all been replaced of course it's not it's after market and the one that's built with the original parts of course it is the ship that should be named Theseus
The answer to the "paradox" is simple: Stop giving physics students marijuana.
You can't travel back in time and remain at the same point in space. You'll end up so far away from Earth that by the time you manage to get back here you'll be in our future
Bootstrap is better
Before I dropped out of engineering, I have never heard anyone "not sleep at night" at so much maintence eveything is "New". Infact my brothers a civil engineer, that kind of idea may enhance his sleep.
Our bodies replace each and every cell over our lifetime, we are still the same person
Solution: Take some melamine.
first of all time does not exist. second of all everything moves .. so you cannot go back. ergo no paradox at all. everyone who trys comment that i am wrong hase an IQ lower than 90
It’s not about what the thing is made of so much, but what it is used for. Usage is the soul of a thing. Just like the 20 year old you and the 80 year old you…, the body is not the true self.
But if you went back in time to kill him, wouldn't that have already happened?
the real question is where did all the parts come from?or how big is this ship to carry a replacement for each part of the ship and how much energy would it take to propel such a ship...while not discarding the old parts would the ship built from old parts be viable or no if so what was the point in replacing parts....
BULLSHIT. Even if " they" actually exist, they are so FAR AWAY that the statistical "likelihood" is MINUTE in a Universe as big as ours, we will ever encounter anyone else. It's really a simple explanation. Intellectuals sometimes overcomplicate an answer. And the answer to this is a "no brainer"
They take one look at humankind and say, "FTS!"
why the fk would scientist wasting his time for this?
despite the continental drift and the subduction, Earth is still Earth same goes with the body which is fully replaced in about 10 years (except for the brain) and you are still you. so yes, it's the same ship.
What a moot debate... not every 'why' is worth exploring
We change every cell in our body every 7 years.... Who am I?
you are the star from which came your atoms, of course!
@@jeremielebrun3637Can you apply that to the spaceship? 😊
It's referred to as the thesius ship because it was originally in the context of a "wood boat" and not a "spaceship"
The only reason you think it’s the same ship is your own association with what the ship is. In reality it changed every time you replaced a component.
Why does it matter?
The real answer is: don’t worry about it.
The answer is ,if its not broke don't fix it
Stoooooooooopid
No such thing as a paradox, just poor understanding
We have a pretty good quarantine program.
a question to ask yourself is if you would be more frightened if we found other life in the universe or if we found that we are the ONLY planet with life in the universe.
Of the time we get there we can't reach them because the expanding universe would eventually collapse too far away for us to reach their universe
We wouldn't even know if they were in Andromeda.
I think that if you go back in time you literally create another timeline and so you can k1ll your dad and in that timeline yourself as a kid would just never born
It's rather simple this is why things have serial numbers or like vehicles have a frame that frame is what is considered the vehicle and all the parts on it are just Parts if you take that same frame strip it completely down and then put all new parts on it it's the same vehicle but you can take all those other parts and put them on another frame and it's the other frames vehicle there is a bass part that is considered what constitutes that ship
