The Vulcan is still one of my favourite aircrafts where technology was leaping massive amounts in a short period of time and that distictive howl sounded like it meant business, which often it's payload meant quite that! The other aircraft which I love is from across the pond and I saw it in my early teens with my late father in a town near where I live. I saw it at the Farnborough air show here in the UK, again another amazing machine. I remember security being tight with the windows of the aircraft being covered.

Interesting archive footage I've never seen before, but please explain the curious omission of any reference to the Handley-Page Victor which, with the Valiant and Vulcan, was the third British V-bomber!!!! Contrary to popular belief the Lightning was NOT a Mach 2 fighter. In squadron service they were red lined at Mach 1.8 Only company development aircraft went faster.

But just not in war type events and more so training they loved it

It was a hunk of junk that never worked. It was a money pit project that was years overdue with no delivery date in sight. Even the liberals of the day agreed that it should be canceled. It never met any of its requirements. It was a single purpose fighter ( bomber interceptor) and was obsolete before it was canceled. But hey,,,, keep believing the propaganda. It makes for a feel-good legend that never happened.

As always the Displayed Ignorant known as GEN Z! Have NO CLUE , OF Roles and Missions. Sure as a long range strike platform. It excels with StandOff weapons. However it's Forte is destruction of aerial targets far from Russian Bordets. Being vectored by ground based radar or AWACS aircraft. Using its AA9 Amos, and AA12 it's Zaslon radar allow Over the Horizon, Beyond Visual Range Intercepts. The so called F14 couldn't Intercept as many aerial targets as MIG31. Even the vaunted AIM54C Phoenix wasn't as good as AA9 AMOS ALAAM. Guess the Gen Z Ignorant better stick to playing WarThunder.

A wing co made a fly past at RAF Machrihanish buzzed the tower cracking the reinforced windows back in the late 70s. A beautiful sight.

I was an engine fitter on Lightning’s. From 56 sqdn, RAF Akrotiri we were sent to Luqa in 1973 with 4 Lightning’s when Dom Mintoff as prime minister of Malta kicked off about the British forces in Malta. The Lightning’s were to put on a show of power. It must have worked because after two weeks we were flown back to Cyprus. As ground crew we were flown there in an Argosy & back in a C130 Hercules. Just outside the airfield perimeter, close to the pan where the Lightning’s stood & off line from the runway was a stone structure, upon which was a group of people with radios & cameras. It was a bit disturbing. At the end of a sortie, one Lightning flew off line from the runway & did a full re-heat vertical climb directly above the stone structure. Radios, cameras & bodies flew in all directions but by the time the Lightning had landed & taxied to the pan, they had all climbed back. Funny to watch tho’.

I spent almost 3 years at Korat and Takhli working on the fire control system including the wild weasels and Ryan's Raiders. A lot of long days to keep them flying. Nothing but great respect for the pilots and ewos I had daily contact with.
