No Procrastination Miniatures
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 เม.ย. 2012
I'm Mark and this channel is all about getting projects done! Painting up those games, squads and armies that we've had sitting around for ages to a standard that we're proud to put on the table! Along the way there will be some product and miniatures review too.
It's not really a question of achieving 'No Procrastination', but I've already picked that channel name and it's too much hassle to change now!

Make your own DIY Wet Palette - BUT... which paper? baking? parchment? greaseproof paper?
Make your own DIY homemade wet palette for miniature painting. But which paper to use? There's a lot of info out there about some paper not working, so here's a test of 4 that are easy to get hold of in the UK. This is pretty UK-centric but should still be useful if you're not in the UK :)

Bluddee eck, that boy has been through the wars. Top paint job 😊
Excellent recovery from the torn decal, fair play Sir 😊
I have a new cat, how timely 😮😅
I really enjoyed watching this video, thank you. Now to find the rest 😊
I'm thinking just a piece of metal on the weapons might be cheaper. That way only magnets for the figures would be needed... food for thought (burp 😊)
Just found your video, really good. I never played it but do have an assortment of models and incomplete game box (courtesy of ebay).
Just getting into warhammer and this video is brilliant, thank you so much
This might be the best review I have ever watched. I give it an 8 out of 10 :)
I'll take that 😄
awesome painting!!!
Great
excellent review! The only thing i would argue, is that the price feels fair for this compared to the MDF. This saves you the painting/detailing time that MDF would need. The houses and walls and whatnot already have very nice prints on them, the thatched roof in particular looks great!
@Erin-pz5nc yes good points. If the benefit of being pre-painted is important to you then these are better value than if you don't mind painting. Overall I think the Battlesystems stuff is great if you're reasonably careful with it
Why did not finish painting the rest of space crusade.
nice village
Great video, wonderful Background- Music. Greetings from Quedlinburg in the Middle of Germany.
I had this
Thanks. I was wondering about all this.
Unscrew the light head and turn it over. This will allow you light out more than your paint stagg
Hey man just wanted to say your content is fantastic, are you still making videos? I only just came across your channel.
Hey thanks. I haven’t given up, just been really busy. Finishing the Space Crusade set is definitely on my to-do list!
@@NoProcrastinationMiniatures fantastic that's great to hear, I understand completely with being to busy. Your painting tutorials on the space crusade boxset are amazing, It inspired me to grab a boxset myself.
That's cool! It's a good fun game that still holds up well 30+ years later
He talks so much nonsense instead of the actual thing
Try tiktok if you just want a 30 second overview 👍
I use Sharpies…and so long as you don’t use too dark a color, the results are as good as anything else. In this video, you just used too dark a Sharpie. They sell a pack of skin tone markers, and they have a LOT of good colors in that pack. The tip: use a color lighter than you think…as the color will be on cardboard and thus be darker than if you were using the marker on plain white paper.
Thanks, good tip! Using much lighter colour makes total sense as the sharpie ink is very saturated. I've played quite a few games with the terrain now and in all honesty I don't really notice the edges anymore on the building but the fences and walls do stand out a bit more
I'm not to sure about that huge height to the bases. That would look super weird on the table if someone does a rear charge and is standing up against a massive wall of base.
Yeh that's a downside with anything built up like this. I'm rubbish at KoW so get rear charged quite often 😂
@@NoProcrastinationMiniatures I see you stopped posting videos. Lost interest in TH-cam?
Just got busy with work and hobby time was playing KoW... keep meaning to do some more vids as I've painted up loads more Northern Alliance and it's quite good fun making them
@@NoProcrastinationMiniatures I've just started printing out a Dwarf Army. Wasn't sure if I wanted to go the GW route again or go Kings of War or One Page Rules. Consensus seems to be that KoW is the best game system so I'm going to multibase after seeing your videos.
These look fantastic. I'm in the process of printing out a Dwarf army. I'm an old Warhammer player so my initial inclination was to do individual bases with movement trays. But after seeing this, I'm starting to lean more towards multi-basing.
Super useful
I was recommended "Reynolds" brand parchment paper for a wet palette, which I've just received from Amazon, but doesn't look promising either no moisture soaks through it, and it has that same waxy feel like all these other baking type papers. I'm also not convinced that any of your tests were really that "successful" either, as it's possible the paint was staying damp because it was sealed in a box with a load of moisture, and not because of moisture soaking through the paper. I've also seen tracing paper suggested, which I haven't got around to trying myself but this sounds more viable as I don't remember this stuff having the waxy/silicon coating as a kid. There's a suggestion if you want to do a follow up video...!
Not heard of thr reynolds paper before. There's definitely an element of condensation in the sealed box, but I can also see some definite signs of very small amounts of water coming up through the parchment (before closing the lid for the night). I think with all things like this it's not really a 'does' or 'doesn't' work, but that different paper produces different results- it's more a case of making sure the same paper works the same consistently and then at least you can be reasonably sure of the results you'll get. It's when it's inconsistent that it's really annoying so I stick with the same paper now
Some on here have found that crumpling a waxy paper into a ball as the run it under a tap creates enough “cracks” in the coating to let it work as a regular parchment :)
You don't need to clip the floors.
Have you had any problems with the lamp? I bought one in early 2020 and the switch is now not working every time. I looked at taking it apart but not found a way yet.
I haven't had any issues at all. I would expect that if it stays on when you manage to switch it on then it is the switch mechanism at fault rather than some other problem with the wiring. I'm not a competent electrician but now you've mentioned it I can imagine that the switch is a bit of a weak link as it isn't a basic switch that allows you to switch it to permanently on (on the switch) whereby you could then just use the wall switch to turn it on and off. Total guess here (and I wouldn't recommend doing it) bit if you can get the head unit open it might be possible to bypass the switch, but you then wouldn't have the 2 brightness settings. If you're in the UK it could be worth it to contact the retailer and explain politely that this is a premium item that you've used well within it's intended use range and although out of warranty you believe a replacement is appropriate in accordance with your consumer rights because it is reasonable that it should still work after 3 years careful use (as an item marketed as high quality). Google money-saving expert consumer rights- it's a last resort option but worth a shot as it is true that this is meant to be a fairly premium lamp (which advertises the longevity of theLEDs) and I would expect other components to last.
@@NoProcrastinationMiniatures Thanks for the reply, I am in Canada and bought the lamp whilst in the US plus it is just about 4 years old so no doubt out of warranty. I do have a local lamp store that has repaired a bedside lamp for me in the past so I might try him to see if it can be fixed. I only use the highest setting when painting figures so if I cannot get the switch fixed I might just ease the switch out and replace it with a straight forward on/off one. Worst case scenario is I can get a new lamp from Walmart for a reasonable price. Cheers, Graham
@@grahamwilkinson8219 good luck. It's a good lamp so if you can keep it working at a reasonable cost it's probably worth it
Pallette was wayyyy too saturated.
The felt needs a lot of water for it to work. A sponge would've worked better with less water
A suggestion if you please. When you need to put colours down but not in your wet palette, use a piece of enamelled tile rather than paper towel. You wont lose your paint to excessive absorption and you can still use the paper towel to wick off excess paint from your brush. I make this comment because I noted when you put down that silver you lost about 70% of it into the paper towel straight away.
I got 120 to paint, im gonna have to find a faster workflow than this 😂
Skip all the highlights and then just highlight a few bits on the front ranks/ tops of the models once they're glued to the base. That would save a lot of time
@@NoProcrastinationMiniatures yeah I was thinking about super speed painting the back ranks and concentrating on the front ranks, even so I'm going to have to figure a faster work flow than you present because your skill level is definitely over mine. I'm probably going to lean on my airbrush heavily as well. Thanks for commenting.. I'm gonna paint up 2 2k armies and I'd really like to be done around the beginning of the new year 😂
Good luck! I haven't played KoW for a few months, need to try out the new NA rules so might need more tribesmen myself, they look better now!
@@NoProcrastinationMiniaturesthanks for making these videos! I start tomorrow 🎉
I find that the baking paper tends to become damaged after a short time of actual working with it, and it sort of gets a bit bumpy with a fine amount of the paper breaking apart and mixing with the paint.
I wish there there was a way to easily connect bridge sections together to make a wider bridge. A wider bridge should allow the passage of a 5” wide unit from a rank-and-flank game. Maybe someday they’ll create a larger bridge piece that’s at x2 the dimensions.
Very useful video, a DIY wet palette should be an option, the only problem would be finding the right stuff, cellulose (not synthetics) sponges could be more indicate than paper for the base
I love this style, I think I'm going to do this on the genestealers I have for my 2009 space hulk set.
Space Hulk 😍
Gosh, I was looking forward to more space crusade videos. I've enjoyed the ones you've painted up so far
Thanks for the comment... I do plan to finish the set and do videos... it's amazing how time has flown!
thanks for making this i know some people thinks this aint usefull but i was so confused when buying paper and luckily i found this, im not forking over £20 or more on some rediculious branded or generic artist crap, i was so shocked at the prices of a simple wet pallete, so thanks for this you have saved me tons if i had just gone for the artist BS which essentialy is the same thing just pruced up to look clean and proffesional, the other thing i like to do is use clingfilm with a spray bottle, as the water has no where to go but stay on the surface of the pallete, but this is by far the best way i have had a pallete tucked away with paint for nearly 5 months now and its still wet, just not had the time to use that paint for the model im working on
Those bases turned out great. Really appreciated the layering of the slate and the putty and then the sand and pebbles. Learned from that for sure!
Thanks! I've recently added some Vallejo Water Texture on top of all of the snow to make it glisten, it looks more like a wet snow now which I think looks better. Also, no noticeable yellowing at all
Thank you for the detailed review. You answered my questions! Could you please tell me what brushes you use? I really enjoyed you showing actual painting on the model. Thank you so much! I am subscribed and hope to learn more from you.
Hi, thanks. I use 'Major brushes', some ok cheap synthetic brushes available in the UK (red handles) and Rosemary & Co series 33 or Windsor and Newton series 7 sable for careful work. I can't remember exactly which of those is in this video but it'll be one of those!
@@NoProcrastinationMiniatures Thank you so much for replying! I will check them out! The ones I am using do not hold their tip and I struggle to do detail at the eyes and other tiny details such as the dots you added to the head on the mini.
I've only recently discovered your channel, great work! Any upcoming content to tease?
Nothing immediate due to having a lot of work on, but I do have some more Space Crusade and Kings of War painting footage filmed already 👍
Have you tried any other contrasts for the more grey or brick surfaces in the set?
Thank you so much for this video! Was everything I needed to know
Im thinking of pledging their kickstarter for Maladum (not a big fan of that name) which looks pretty awesome. The dungeon set looks particularly cool. They are also saying that maladum is planned to have missions for this village set.
I'm also thinking of pledging for it. I have some of the orignal sci-fi and dungeon terrain but that new stuff looks even better. I haven't played their Core Space game but have heard it's good and Maladum sounds like it's based on that
@@NoProcrastinationMiniatures i haven't played core space either but it had two editions already so maladum ought to be pretty refined. they also seem to have planned it way in advance of the actual kickstarter going live, so not just a lazy afterthought game slapped onto a terrain package.
Some of my warcry terrain, if you sit on it, its gonna send you to the hospital for some stitches on your butt.
Best comment on this channel! :D
Thank you for your video it was better than battle systems and more helpful imo…. I have a question .. I’ve really been wanting to do a Forrest background like the one that you use in your video … do you have a link ? Or recommendation to get one like that ? Thank you for the reply and keep up the good work
Wow, I've been using the set for a while as I got it through the Kickstarter. This has definitely got me inspired to paint up the edges when my Speedpaint bundle arrives. Thanks for making this guide to show the before and after!
Thanks for the comment! If you use the speedpaints and it works great leave another comment about which colours work best!
This was a terrible review- you are obviously biased. Giving this set a 6/10 for Value for Money?? I noticed you took away a point for feeling it should be cheaper than MDF, but did not give back a point for it not needing to be painted, which for MDF would have cost more time, effort and money. And it is SO much cheaper than Games Workshop or Resin terrain it’s like night and day. Not coming back to this joke of a channel.
I explained my reasons for the scores based on my own opinions of what is important for terrain. You're welcome to have a different opinion. Enjoy the terrain if you buy some. As mentioned in the review, overall I like it.
The toy soldier hobby crowd definitely know how to get excited about hobby!
Great looking bases and paint jobs on the models. I'm getting into KoW and am in the process of multibasing an Ogre army right now. I've been taking tips and inspiration from a variety of videos including this one.
Thanks for the feedback... I've also recently bought a load of the new mantic ogres!
Great tutorial and stupendous bases 👏
Very good review. I may have to give this a try. I do have the TTCombat Elf city terrain, and it was not the most fun to build. So much of it is fiddly, and there were a bunch of times that pieces split on the sprue when trying to carefully remove them. 4Ground fantasy, pre-painted buildings are sturdier and were far easier to put together. I feel like Battle Systems is a nice intermediary between those two options.
Thanks for the comment. I've also now tried some of the TT combat stuff and yes it is indeed fiddly! That elf stuff looks particularly fiddly. I'd only say to avoid the battlesystems if you're a really heavy user like a gaming club or if you know you're very heavy handed, otherwise it's a good compromise 👍
@@NoProcrastinationMiniatures TTCombat is by no means poor quality. It was just frustrating and scary to put together. 4Ground pre-painted MDF was super fun (but glue filled) and extremely sturdy.
Brilliant video. Thank you. Just bought 100 baking parchment squares from Lakeland in the UK for £4.99. They are 7” (18cm) squares. Thought that would give me a decent setup over one of those cellulose sponge cloths. Just need to find a suitable container now.
Aint gonna lie: necron rework was the best thing they ever made.
To be fair these old 'Androids' were pretty much an early prototype for Necrons, but yeh Necrons now look a lot more advanced
