    Really apprechiated your opinions about the game, that was the read I was getting on it to. I got a free copy with my recent PC build, so I am excited for it in that way. But also I am a huge star wars nerd, so your review made me a bit excited; as I am there for the story :) But now I will know going in to give it a chance to get get and tell its slow burn and not get burnt out at the start as I have to suffer through the heavy handed current model of "ok now I will teach you what this game is" game play.

    The beginning was odd.. stiffer animations than the rest of the game.. linear vs the rest of the more open game you get later. On the other hand, I has zero input lag in the beginning. Not sure why you had that but I don't think it was suppose to be like that. Getting the money in the beginning was actually easier than what you did to get. You just tell your pet to pick pocket everyone and you have the money in no time.

      @csdigitaldesign ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry it's much less mid than most are giving it credit for. Astropub gives it a fair review and does point out the stuff that leans towards being mid... i would say some of the game mechanics are done in interesting ways unlike other games. I found it odd he left that out. The way you use your pet for certain things for example. The story was not mid at all but pretty good. People can't expect games to be great every time they come out. I think part of the problem with this game is people built up to much hype for it and are disappointed it didn't meet that hype.

    @19:00 THANK YOU!!! This has been one of the things that had irked me the most over the last year about Star Citizen is the idea that someone would design a ship not just without any redundancy when lives literally depend on it, but without sufficient power to supply even your most basic needs! And the idea of batteries being the saving grace is idiotic to the extreme, because if you have to use them - EVER - because you "need them" to get full power to your ship, you then have to power down EVEN MORE things to recharge them later. Someone needs slapped for this idea.

    1:20:00 Graph-based server meshing with multiple supporting services is not new, nor is it exclusive to MMO’s. Search engines use it to update their optimized list of searchable domains and have it interact with the dozens of services they run along side that. Really, almost all cloud services utilize it to some extent on this 1-2 updates per day approach. What is fundamentally different, however, is the rate of interaction with graph updates, and having all those systems depend on the graph being continually updated. Search engines only update their graphs once a day, at like 4am pacific. So their “replication layer” equivalent doesn’t need constant interaction with the actual primary graph database. Even compared to AOC, SC’s fundamental tech hurdle is combining the persistent database in real time with all layers on top of it. This is what is needed for a player on the ground 20km outside an outpost to fire a missile at a ship that’s mid dogfight in the upper atmosphere while an fps boarding action unfolds on the opposing ship. All of those players need their permanent data placed in the correct object container, and that container correctly loaded into each client, across multiple servers, in real time. They all need to know if the boarders destroy the power core and cause the ship to turn off or explode, they all need to know if the first ship launches flares, they all need to know the ground player fired the missile, etc. And all of that should be visible to someone just sky-watching in the outpost, in real time. The persistent graph database, however, is a system that fundamentally struggles for real time. That’s why everyone does it once a day, at low traffic volume, where it doesn’t need to be instant and constant. AOC’s implementation is fundamentally a bit easier (still super cool) because they aren’t doing the live persistence layer. They can handle persistent data updates (like the state of X building or Y character) via the much more traditional 1-2 updates during low activity per day. If you search “software engineer star citizen server meshing” you’ll find two series of videos by two guys who literally work in this exact field of database programming going into super deep and technical detail on SC’s approach, why it’s both radical/difficult but technically possible, and why it would be such a literal game changer. They do a much better job than I can.

    @piedpiper1172 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The challenge for dynamic is not how many servers can they add, it’s how far they can subdivide density. Two crewed Javelins fighting each other without escorts would already saturate the current player limits for two high performing servers. If those ships chose to engage in a boarding action, will meshing be able to handle bringing a third server in to control perhaps individual rooms in the boarded ship? Even once boarded, the two Javs will still be moving in space. Will their various escorts and consorts whirling around be able to receive accurate position data for the two Javelins as their internal spaces are handled by multiple meshed servers? This is the real hurdle. SC can’t back down from the Javelin or Bengal. They must be playable spaces, must be able to participate seamlessly in fleet fights. If meshing can’t divide down far enough for 2+ meshed servers to handle fps combat on the same ship that is simultaneously accurately participating in a space battle, then they have a real problem. And cutting big ships wouldn’t solve that problem, because it means that any time 200ish players are in the same physical space things break down. This would place an eternal hard cap on everything, from racing (racers and a crowd could clear that limit in an open single area) to simply moving through a city.

    • @2334animelover
      @2334animelover 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If I may, and take what I put here with a grain of salt. But doesnt this issue just come down to how a system is subdivided by servers. For example if Lyria is a server, then the space around Lyria is a server, each server was able to host the entirety of Stanton with 100 people. When it only has to handle empty space and a singular moon, the amount of entitys it can handle in those areas is greater than it would be now?

    • @piedpiper1172
      @piedpiper1172 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@2334animelover In a sense, that's precisely the concern. The limit will come at what level the ability to subdivide a smaller physical space to keep up with a spike in player density ends. This is why the case of very large ships engaged in active pvp is a go-to example. A Javelin with 100 players, boarded by say, another 100, may or may not saturate a single server--even if that server is entirely dedicated to just that ship. This scenario could be made much harder if we imagine a fight in say the cargo bay, between (for what ever reason) 300 or 400 players. With no physical divisions of the room to use for culling, can that single large room be handled by two meshed servers, or will it exceed the capacity and still end up where we are now--everything breaks and it all chugs toward major service crash?

    Server meshing is not happening this year or next year, It's like nuclear fusion, Always around the corner. Same with the Polaris and polished versions of Vulkan, Not happening this year.

    • @csdigitaldesign
      @csdigitaldesign 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Where did the bad man touch you? Lmao. 1. Server meshing was already tested and was working with up to 600 people. There where issues yes but nothing major and in fact worked even better than CIG hoped. This was after literally showing us it working on stage last citcon. But like I said it was already well beyond that now and working at scale. 2. The polaris will absolutely be finished even before citcon. CIG has literally a solid reputation in getting ships done when they say. The only exception was the BMM because the team left CIG in the middle of developing it. You can try and list other ships but you aren't going to find one they have us a timeline for other than the bmm where they missed it. All the other ships you might be waiting for have not had any release date. Waiting for a long time is not the same thing as missing a date they gave us. They miss plenty of dates yup! But not with ships. 3. Vulcan is already in the game and is in fact working very very well in 3.24 on the PTU. People are even saying the game has never ran so smooth before.

    Ok. I’m allowing for the eternal optimism, but there are going to be so many “unexpected” bugs with v1 implementation and beyond that I don’t understand how meshing will be the foundational tech that removes the roadblocks. They have to get their foundational tech in a stable format.

    • @LucidStrike

      @@rj_hondo7683 Why would it have to be "stable" during 'alpha'?

    • @piedpiper1172
      @piedpiper1172 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s “foundational” because most bugs are caused by low server fps. SC’s version of server meshing exists expressly to distribute processing load. In other words, it solves all bugs expressly and *exclusively* caused by low server fps. You know how things feel so good when you end up on a new server instance with only a handful of people? It’s because the server is running much closer to design fps. Unfortunately, one sever simply can’t handle all of Stanton for more than a few people, which is why the design relies on multiple meshed servers doing that. Ofc, all other issues will still exist. So while your cargo box might not glitch through the floor, bounce a bunch and blow up your ship, another player could still just walk onboard your ship and steal it in an outpost armistice zone.

    • @piedpiper1172
      @piedpiper1172 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@LucidStrikeSC can’t have it both ways. They spend backer money to run advertisements saying “play now!” and “new feature live now!” They advertise a live service, but deliver an alpha. They expect us to give all the benefit of a doubt due an alpha, but advertise a live service game. They made the choice to change their advertising this way. No one forced them to do it. It’s entirely reasonable for players to hold them to the standard CIG advertise. If you offer a monthly subscription and advertise a playable game right now, then people can expect that game to have basic stability and functionality. Sadly, they can’t un-run those ads either. So, the damage is done. It is and forever will be reasonable for players to expect playability.

    • @rj_hondo7683
      @rj_hondo7683 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@piedpiper1172If the implementation is done poorly, it will not solve all issues regarding low fps. There is very little in CIG history that suggests their implementation is going to be smooth and efficient, and it's evidenced in their development of static. They're going to be hunting implementation issues for a long time. Each iteration that solves x will introduce y. I understand by the strict definition of language what you are saying regarding how foundation tech will eliminate roadblocks, but put into context of this development project, those roadblocks are still going to be there because the implementation will be buggy, and the path to stability...well, it's gonna take awhile. @@rj_hondo7683 Oh I agree that 4.0 launch will be a dumpster fire. I was just trying to answer the literal question of "how meshing will be the foundational tech." It is in a very literal sense the foundation that removes barriers to actually pursuing optimization, stability, and performance. Of course, I agree that we will likely get little or none of that work done by the time 4.0 launches. So it'll likely be marginally better, but expose all sorts of issues in the way numerous systems' meshing code is written but has never had the capacity to interact on live and thus never been noticed. So the elevators will move at the right speed and won't eat us, but our eyeballs will fall out when the server tries to hand us over as we leave atmosphere, or something.

Foxhole uses the older way of server meshing with boundaries. Their new R2 engine is from the ground up to make a single shard mmo where players create ever tool and weapon and building. They're ones to watch for new single shard mmos.

      foxhole is great but it is very basic in terms of performance. If they made something less twin stick/isometric style than I'd agree.

    Money hides mistakes. CIGs terrible project management will never be acknowledged by its executives while we keep buying ships.

      @@LucidStrikePeople in tech seem to have quite different opinions which doesn’t surprise me. I’ve been in a cloud tech role for 2 years now and the complexity of enterprise cloud based scalable globally available infrastructure & databases… ouch. I’ve assisted 16 projects in 2 years. I’m now on my first where I’m closer to dev teams & seeing the iteration of code daily on apis rather than just the infrastructure side. CIG are juggling all this and doing it as fast as humanly possible I think. Def be an interesting job to see it from the inside.

    I believe so yeah, If it goes worse than expected then an open ptu this year worse case scenario. I truly believe this time bases on the additions and work we've been shown compared to any other year this is the closest we've been to 4.0

    I bought the Polaris not wanting to deal as a want to be Idris that doesn't need as many people as the Idris and think a lot of people will come too see that also. I think it will be used in place of the Idris a lot in the end.
