Wayland is the biggest mistake Linux has ever made. BSD shouldn't make the same mistake.
I thought you guys said it was systemd lol
How is it the biggest mistake lol. I know it has a lot of issues but being able to support basic features like hdr requires moving from xorg
@@aberba They say it about literally whatever new thing comes out
Get a haircut and get a real job.
Will you be making an videos about OpenBroadcaster scheduling program??? I really want to learn how to use it!!
I really love your video, but ... how can I include the dependencies requirements?
thanks bud! i'm new to ffmpeg and just needed to see someone do an example. lots of videos for this but not too many for av1 so i appreciate it.
Your're quite welcome. Glad I could help you learn about the wonders that is ffmpeg. - Vincent
Does GTK come with drag & droppable widgets like WinForms?
Yes. There is a tool for building GUI's called Glade. With it you can do just that. Here's link for you: help.gnome.org/users/glade3/3.8/glade3.html - Vincent
@@OpenSourceTonight Tysm!!
Thanks
Your welcome! Thanks for watching. - Vincent
It's not so much that it's buggy, you really need to read at least some help docs. Just randomly clicking on everything is tough to watch. Read thru all of the quick tour, you will be miles ahead.
I wanted to try it without doing that but I'm sure it would help. Maybe I'll make another video about Haiku at some point. - Vincent
4:31 so, u forgot the VSCodium; Eclipse Theia etc too
Actually, Debian does setup sudo automatically if you just leave the root password entries blank during installation. It even explains it on the screen. You might have missed that. Also all of the packages come directly from Debian repositories except for the Cinnamon desktop packages that come from the LMDE repository that is included.
Oh I think I must have missed that. Thanks for letting me know. - Vincent
Vince, hey man I have been on linux exclusively for 16 years and I just got my first home server this past year or so and it's an HPE Proliant MicroServer Gen10 Plus and it was the best decision I ever made. Have you tinkered with self hosting and proxmox and VMs and docker and portainer and reverse proxies and all of this fun stuff on servers yet? It's like my new favorite hobby now. Also something you may or may not know about, it's something I just learned today, which shows even after 16 years on it that I am still learning, is apt pinning. Basically it lets you install debian stable or ubuntu lts to have a stable and reliable OS but then be able to install newer apps from testing or unstable on debian stable or if you are on ubuntu lts you can pull apps from newer releases. I haven't used it for much yet myself except for that you can pin specific packages to be always pulled from specific repos so I set the linux-image-*, the kernel, to always update from the unstable branch to always have the newest kernel available. But I'm sure I'll find other uses. I'm like addicted to learning new linux topics and with all this new AI chatbot stuff like Google Gemini they can teach you all kinds of cool stuff about linux. That's what I have been using to learn new topics and ideas. Have a great day man!
I've played with hosting diffent services on my local network for over ten years now. It all started with hosting a Asterisk telco server. Thanks for some good video ideas. I didn't know about apt pinning, but it sounds cool. - Vincent
Thank you. That was helpful. Because other lib av1 didn't work and showed only 0.1-3 fps.
Your welcome! The SVT encoder is so much faster. There is also a SVT encoder for VP9 and it's about the same speed for me. - Vincent
@@OpenSourceTonight Could you please create a suitable video for a similar codec from SVT for the h265 compression method. AFAIK, it is very well optimized for my xeon-type processor, but I don't understand how to compile SVT-H265 for Windows in order to make it work in the ffmpeg program.
ty!
Your welcome! - Vincent
The project is called mediamtx now, and if you use the WebRTC address, the video latency is much better, like <100ms.
Indeed your right on both counts. I've been using mediamtx for a while now. I really should make a updated video on it. - Vincent
The project is now called mediamtx, and if you use the WebRTC port there is much lower latency (<100ms)
I despise using GTK applications so using it for my own stuff would be pretty hypocritical
would this work from another part of the world... :P
Yes, it should work from anywhere as long as you port forward, or connect over a VPN.
Hey, do you know if the recent VLC updates have improved general native 4k (UHD Blu-ray) playback? I used to use VLC a lot but had to move to other players like Movist Pro due to lag when playing 4k movies on VLC.
I'm not sure. I don't have any blu-rays to test it with anyhow. Sorry I couldn't help you.
Thanks for the thorough explanation, exactly what I needed!
I'm happy that it was helpful to you. My aim is to be helpful but I don't always do it perfectly.
Is it bad I want to in stall the i386 release onto both a Pentium-III and Pentium 4 I have for dual-booting? This seems like an ideal distro for a 90s machine.
It does feel like it would be a good on a '90s PC. That's just my thoughts though.
thx for information <3
No problem. I'm happy to help.
How to run a program on autostart but as root without providing password?
I would say set it up as a SystemD process. Barring that though I'm not sure.
Yeah! Good work!
Thanks! I do my best. - Vincent
Great video, Can you make a really easy to follow guide to install on a local server with minimal knowledge of Linux and coding
Probably most easy option would be run in docker or by yunohost
wait the title has a typo
Thanks for telling me. I didn't catch that one. - Vincent
How about a deep dive showing how to set it up? :)
That's a good idea. Thanks for the idea! - Vincent
I choose wxWidgets :D
looks a lot like BeOS
From what I understand that was the goal of the project. So it would make sense it would look like BeOS.
Can you use a remote to control this software?
I seem to remember that there were some remote control features in the program. So I assume something like that could be coded up with a custom control or possibly an off-the-shelf one.
How to import sripts made with Google Docs or word?
I would say the easiest way is to export as a text file from Google Docs or Word and then import that into the teleprompter software. I hope that helps you out.
No Offence but QT was developed using GTK as it's base. Many do not know this. Also Wx uses GTK also but is much older. There are only three known original base machine toolkits. They are Mosaic GUI Toolkit and Widgets(Only Microsoft and Sun have licenses to use), GTK and TK. Everything else came from GTK except for the newer OpenGL or DirectX developed GUI used in gaming software.
Qt came before GTK, in 1992 or something. GTK came from GIMP, which only came out in 1995. GTK came in 1998. Qt came out earlier in 1995. It was beginning to be developed in 1991.
I thought this was our secret... Why are you sharing it with the world? Damn... LOL :)
It was too good not to share. :) - Vincent
Thanks 😊 watching u from Nepal 🇳🇵
You're very welcome. The software I have to say is pretty cool. Glad to help you discover it. Cool I didn't know I had viewers in Nepal. I hope you enjoy your time on the channel.
"Engine-X" oh so that's what it is, thought it was "En-jinx"!
Yeah I used to think it was pronounced differently too. Seems to be a common thing in software they like to pick a name that's not even said the way that it sounds like it would be. I don't know why this is but I guess it's just a stand out.

FFmpeg Batch AV Converter is a great GUI interface for encoding. IMO it's better than Handbrake.
I'll have to check that out. I haven't heard of it until now.
Hello sir . Can you compile ffmpeg with decklink sdi 4k
From what I understand you can do that with ffmpeg and the decklink SDK. - Vincent
@@OpenSourceTonight I do that but ffmpeg - devices not showing decklink.
Would this be good for Plex Media Server Transcoding?
I assume it would be. I don't run a Plex server so I wouldn't know for sure. I've heard of it being used for HLS and MPEG Dash streaming though.
@@OpenSourceTonight I tried it for Transcoding on my Plex Media Server when I switched it from Windows to Ubuntu and it works amazingly! Completely got rid of all the buffering that was happening from transcoding to SSD! Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks Vincent, Just what I was looking for.

Is it possible to run on Linux server?
As long as you're running Xorg, or Wayland on it, it should work. -Vincent

Very good point. I'll have to take a look at it at some point.
That's fast, sadly my Ryzen 5600H Laptop can only get 5 FPS in 1080p using preset 5, presets 4-5 have a very good quality but still slow with a laptop CPU.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. - Vincent
How do you use ffmpeg with hardware acceleration with Intel GPUs? I've used it with handbrake and it's super fast but I've been wanting to try it with ffmpeg to see how it compares. Thanks
Thanks, that was a very unbiased review in my opinion. It was really helpful for me.
