    Thanks for taking the time to make this. I'd love to do this in my Grumman Tiger. I can't lie...I'm a little intimidated by the process but this helps visualize the steps.

    Did your seats have headrests to start? I’ve got a 61 Debonair and would like to add them when I do my airtex interior next fall.

      Mine already had headrests. Don’t know if the 61 seat frame backs are the same.

    Mitchell, I am going through the same process. I am curious about how you prepped your firewall. My A&P did not want me painting it however he suggested to polish. How did you get your firewall looking the way it does in the video?

    What ratio did you use Xylene and airtex glue to get for spray

    • @mitchellburch8464
      @mitchellburch8464 ปีที่แล้ว

      Used toluene. No set ratio. Just enough to thin the glue a little so it sprayed better.

    Last time I used that paint you had to put it in a pan of hot water had to heat it up before you put hardener in it and spay it out before it cooled off .

    Are the pipes the orange hoses are resting on hot? What is inside the orange hoses - something doesn't look safe. .

    • @mitchellburch8464
      @mitchellburch8464 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hoses are actually not touching anything. The pipes are the induction tubes. Not hot. Nothing back there is really hot. The orange on the hoses are fire sleeves. No worries. They’re right where they were designed to be.

    Wow it came out amazing. You definitely know what you are doing and have the right tools to do it. We are kind of doing similar work but bought the side panels from them made out of a corrugated plastic. Looks cheap and flimsy for what we paid but I guess it is light weight. We are having an upholsterer do the seats and cover the side panels. My question is: Does the A&P have to see the steps to sign off on it. I thought they had to.

    • @mitchellburch8464
      @mitchellburch8464 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. No AP sign off for installing the airtex kit. Their materials have been tested for fire resistance etc. the weight difference is negligible.

    You did a fantastic job my friend. Wasn’t long just very informative, sometimes it takes more than just a quick fix video. A lot of these so called diy videos aren’t worth much. This shows problems that arise and how to fix it. Thank you for the information.

    What color/fabric combinations did you get? I am thinking about doing my 1955 v-tail interior (though fabric seats, not leather). Wondering about how the colors look in the plane vs. the tiny samples Airtex sent. Thanks for the video!

    Great video. Just started doing my Airtex install this week on my Comanche and it's....going :-) QQ for you. Do you have a method for how you glued the panels to the vinyl when it comes to corners and other odd angles? Gluing the aluminum to the back of the foam is easy enough, but when I fold it over to secure the back, I'm having some challenges with the corners. Any advice?

    • @mitchellburch8464
      @mitchellburch8464 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had troubles with corners as well. I found that stretching the vinyl over the corners and getting it to stick maybe a 1/4” in before I started cutting relief cuts worked. Using a heat gun to help get the vinyl to stretch helped as well. You will be surprised how much you can get it to stretch over the corners.

    Beautiful job! I'm looking at the same for my 'new to me' V35B. Paint is good, interior is perished. Did you do the headliner as well?

    • @mitchellburch8464
      @mitchellburch8464 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the headliner back in 2008 when I bought the plane. It was sagging pretty bad. I did take the headliner out and strip it. An interior shop recovered it. I reinstalled it. As I recall, it had the black foam under the vinyl and it was a gooey mess. Took a day to remove the vents etc, strip and clean it.
