Banyan Style Ficus Microcarpa. Hoping for Aerial Roots Soon.
This was a cutting from March 2020. Repotted in 2021. Hard prune today. Plus an update from a tree I pruned a month ago.

June 17th I repotted this tree and removed a sacrifice branch. Updated the tree August 24th. This is my clump of microcarpa that fell apart with some rot in the middle so I planted the bigger half back in this pot and I've been allowing the other two plants to have escape roots in the edge of the pot. Almost every ficus I have that I haven't moved for 2-3 months is rooted into whatever it's sitting on.
Where is your river tamarind, that’s a interesting species for bonsai
I repotted them all in January. th-cam.com/video/d4ZC99vqW5w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KgBUUqzs0831_ca8 One bloomed over the summer. The small one didn't grow much but it's alive. I'll probably update around January again.
I am also growing a jacaranda from seed. So far it's good and healthy. I haven't started doing anything with it yet. But I wanted to warn you that these are highly invasive trees. And you may not want to leave it grow in your yard for too very long
The plan right now is to leave it in a pot. I did check, they are invasive in parts of Australia and Africa but not here in Florida.

Nice video, love these trees, I've found the only way to get Aerial roots on a ficus is to let them grow really really vigorously until they have a huge dense canopy up top and/or keep them really humid like 80-90% humidity.
Thanks. I keep these outside all year long. Most of the year here in Florida we live in a humidity dome. Humidity and vigorous growth are the two biggest factors for aerial roots for sure.

Yes. I am in zone 10b in Florida, outside in full sun all year long.
Cool. I’m in zone 12b Hawaii. I just got a similar ficus plant and was reading a lot online about people saying not to put them in full sun and I was a little confused as to why

Thanks, most of my trees survived and insurance took care of my house but it definitely set many of the trees back some.

It’s your tree, do what makes you happy… but taking a long term view, a harder road to a premium end, I’d cut every branch (including the top) back hard. It’s a focus, it will rebud very easily. Let those buds grow out and cut back again to two nodes. Doing this will bring everything back in tighter to the trunk and begin to create taper in the branches. Long term, it will build a bonsai like you see in the books. Ultimately it’s about whatever makes you happy. At the moment it’s perhaps a little out of proportion, branches are too thick and long in scale to the trunk. The only other way to keep this design in scale in coming years would be to remove it from a bonsai pot and put it in a grow box to enlarge everything. Just my unsolicited opinion, take it with a grain of salt. I appreciate you’re putting yourself out there! And top marks for tree health!

How do you keep it from not growing taller. Should I cut leaves as they’re growing?
I think chopping it at the beginning of growing season is the best way.

Could this jasmine grow via root cuttings??
I haven't tried. But where my neighbor and I dug out the old stumps there is plenty of sucker growth, so I'm pretty sure they would work.
