Mantis Laser Academy / DCS Training Warm up Drill / DCS 50
DCS Training Developed this 50-round practice drill to help students with accuracy from their Draw to first shot from the holster, mastering and understanding height over bore, and Cadence. This drill can be used with the Mantis Laser Academy system with dry fire in your home, airsoft in your backyard, or live fire at the range. These targets are to be used at 3 yards and since everyone has 3 yards in their home, this drill is an excellent skill builder that translates between practice at home and live fire at the range. DCS uses these same Targets and Drills during their FASTER Saves Lives Foundations and Level One course to help reinforce basic skills and have now partnered with Mantis Academy to give students even more ways to train, compete and practice alongside friends.

    This guy is an amazing teacher and instructor! I’ve always struggled with holster drawing; whether it was my speed, my gripping, my target sighting, or my anticipation of recoil thereafter or both, I could just never get my holster practice down and my dad whose also my competitive range partner has always kicked my butt at it! So I went on my dry fire website Mantis (where I purchase all of my dry fire products at) and bought the (1. DCS A-D and 2. DCS circled Dot targets and watched 2 15 min videos of this guy! Within 45 minutes I finally got my holster draw and target acquisition down! Now I’m faster and more accurate than my dad! What’s even more, Holster Draw and Holster Par Timing Draw/ Holster Duel Draw has now become my favorite thing to practice!

This person should know better. He should not be holding any office. @dynamiccombativesolutionsl5358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Snap caps is a name brand, uses a spring for center fire cartridges, are plastic and fragile for anything other than just dry fire. Dummy rounds are better for practicing malfunctions and such with constant rechambering. .22lr are rim fire. They make a solid aluminum dummy round but I find that once it's dented, you will have to rotate to a clean area to dry fire again. Repeated use in the same place can still cause wear to firing pin as it eventually strikes the breach face.

      In the video, my target was the little black dot as a frame of reference so you can see contrast. I choose small things up close so when you press the trigger any tiny movement can be observed. At the range, you'll likely use a large silhouette within 21ft which is too forgiving for truly practicing accuracy IMHO. Aim small, miss small.

Some can use "dummy" ammo, but recently I heard if a firing pin breaking even with the use of the aluminum "dummy" ammo. Possibly use an airsoft (without) bb's in the house, just for sight picture and trigger work. Will help immensely build habits for success at the range.

    Hi Dave I just recently saw your video on sight ilighment and was wondering if you could make or reference your video on where to aim on your target. I saw a few videos on aim on target but they talk about 6 o clock on target or 12 o clock but, I understood better the way you explain and showed in your sight video. Thank you looking forward to your response.

    • @dynamiccombativesolutionsl5358
      @dynamiccombativesolutionsl5358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it varies by manufacturer at 21ft. If your target is a circle, some guns you hold just below the target so the top of the sight touches the bottom of the circle target. Others you cut the circle target in half and some you would cover your target with the front sight. All of this doesn't matter because if they have aftermarket sights like trijicon, it will change. Your best bet it's to put up a 1" circle mark on your target at 21' aim at the center and shoot three rounds. If it groups tightly together then you're a good shooter and the group will tell you where to aim. Also, the average 9mm drops about 12" every 100yrds so target distance matters. You can use a ruler from the center of your bore to the tip of your site and see they are not aligned. We call that the height over bore. Point blank you'll likely be at 1". As you move back to 21' you will match and that is zero. In theory, at 42' you'll likely be an in low again and continue dropping lower as you move back. Why does this matter? You'll want to know where to aim at what distance for maximum accuracy as well as acceptable sight picture. Up close for defensive shooting, not as important as the T-Box head shot. (Eyes and nose makes a T) Hope this helps. Our precision pistol class teaches you how to do all of this and repeat it.

      Hi Dave I hope you are well. I did implement the techniques that you informed me. I am hitting the target more often and have a better idea of where I am aiming. I have been using a target with rings around the center black circle there is about an inch offset per circle. My shots land with in the black circle and next outer 2 rings, but I have a new question. My 3 shot and pause to look they don't group closely about .5 to 3in distance from one another overall. When I shoot an entire mag (10rounds CT) I am reaching 40% in target and rest are are 10 o clock or 6 o'clock area so the question are 1. How much distance from one shot to another should I be aiming for? A 2. What would be cause my awkward triangle 3 shots am I sweeping or somthing? I look forward to your reply. Would you say that there are different scenarios for using different sight pictures or focus points? Let's Say shooting with one eye open is probably the best for shooting in this situation as you are target shooting and you're going for accuracy. Where as when you're shooting with both eyes open it's better to have a more target focused sight picture, especially in a more actively engaged situation like in a fire fight? Now one thing I've realized shooting with both eyes open is the "ghost gun" which depending on hand/eye dominance depends on which sight alignment to go off of? Or would you say that you should always keep the front sight post in focus?

    • @dynamiccombativesolutionsl5358
      @dynamiccombativesolutionsl5358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Myelination of the proper draw stroke brings your sights on target quicker. Within 21ft the front sight needs to be anywhere in the rear notch to hit center mass of a full size silhouette. Dry fire practice will help you see this acceptable sight picture more quickly. When people talk about both eyes open for combat shooting, this is so you don't close off half if your world and loose peripheral view. You can squint to accomplish the stronger eye dominance. They don't have to be completely open. So to answer your question. You want both eyes open all the time, but squinting is allowed, you want a good sight picture however within 21ft it is less perfect. And lastly the fastest shooters are the fastest because they practice enough to always see their sights on target, the target size and distance dictate what's acceptable. Hope that helps.

    • @dynamiccombativesolutionsl5358
      @dynamiccombativesolutionsl5358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a dumb question at all. Good observation. It changes. So in the video I am aiming at the black dot. Factory Glock sights have you split your target in half at 21ft. Springfield may have you cover the target and Sig may have you aim below. Each manufacturer zero's their sights slightly differently at 21ft. Also, when you change your sights for an aftermarket set, it may change again because they may be a different height. Lastly, as you move in closer to the target you may about 1" of separation from the height to the actual bore the. As you move back it come together at zero then start to shift further apart the more distance you get. From 100 yards you should have about 12" of drop and then it gets worse at 200+. Depending on the ammunition weight, speed, air density etc. Hope that helps.

    Awesome, thanks, as a newbie I'm having a bit of trouble with precision, cuz my left eye is my dominant eye but I shoot with my right hand, I then tend to move my head a bit right to get that sight alignment and this is exactly what I needed to clear things up. Got a like from me! Cheers.

      These are things we're looking for to see if it's their first attempt or do they have experience. Gives us an opportunity to explain why they should start working on it now before they face the questions from students.
