I think it is a modest win for family unity. Until DHA makes it clear which category this is, both on it's website and that of VFS, it is a big win for immigration practitioners as part of the gate keepers to such information. For those who wish to handle applications on their own, or are forced to do so due to financial constraints, the spousal option remains the only manner to remain with the family as it is the only category with clear information. The 27g on basis of being relative to a South African citizen requires the citizen to show willingness, and ability, to support the applicant. A minor child cannot do this, and hence why on the VFS and DHA sites under this category it still reads that it cannot be applied for on basis of relation to a minor child So again, a big win for practitioners who as gate keepers, also guard the information, naturally so as it is cornerstone to their bread and butter. We are yet to truly see if the Minister's claims of the rights of South Africans extends to all South Africans, especially children in this regard. I do not envy him. It is merky waters socially at present and the task of balancing the rights of South Africans, against human rights more broadly, against the desire for the ballot to go a certain way is no easy task. Unfortunately in most cases the desire of the ballot to go a certain way often wins, and if it continues to, then the days of DHA being taken to court are far from over.

May you please note some critical skills applicants applied in 2021 still the respond is pending and no communication whatsoever from the respective authorities till now we are in 2024.
