Porsche 911 991 Turbo S Tuning Stage 1+ Explained
Follow along with the team as we go in depth on this Porsche 991.2 Turbo S tuning package. This video explains everything you need to know about Porsche 911 991 Turbo S tuning. For this particular vehicle we opted for our Stage 1+ package.
This has improvments to the exhaust system, upgraded air filter and our Genome Design remap of the 911 engine managment system and gearbox control unit. Our stage 1+ Porsche 911 Turbo S tuning package consists of Sports cats (optional decats) and a BMC Airfilters upgraded intake air filter. We leave the standard cat back and intercoolers in place before custom tuning the ECU & PDK gear box.
The stage 1+ Porsche Turbo S tune delivers astonishing power and torque. Along with incredible engine performance throughout the whole rev range. This car is producing in excess of 650Ib at 2900rpm. This makes for a extremely exciting driving experience.
With Power levels beyond 675bhp, and minimal hardware changes, the 100+bhp power output increases are superb. Throttle response is greatly improved and boost pressure is controlled within 100mb of target boost pressure.
This high performance is achieved with reliability in mind. The increase in power is done safely and will not reduce the Turbos S engine life span, providing our guidlines are followed.
To achieve the best results with our Porsche 991 Turbo S Tuning it is imperative to use only Shell V Power or Tesco 99 fuel. Please state when enquiring about Turbo S tuning if a custom 95ron tune file is required.

This may be a stupid question……… why can’t the tuning be done in ‘real life’ scenarios on the road, as the air intake temps would be normal to the speed. Would someone with a laptop, WiFi and the tuning files be able to do this?
@@basher1285 we often test on the road. Live tuning is not possible on the OEM ecu so you have to build a file then flash and test. It’s safer to set it up in the dyno then test on the road once happy with the datalogs. All of the part throttle and drivability changes are done on the road. Hope that clears things up a little bit :)
@ agh I see, that makes sense now. Thank you 🙏
the turbo cars really don't sound as nice as the GT3 😕
@@OriginalNotNyanCat it’s the nature of having the turbos on them for noise there’s no replacement for a screaming NA but for power and torque the turbo cars are amazing
Does it affect the reliability?
680ft lb of torque? That is massive! What rpm range is that peak torque? A better dyno graph would be helpful.
@@63SC991TTS if you click the link in the description you can see a full size graph
I still find the dyno graph on your webpage confusing. You advertised Stage 1+ as 680bhp & 660ft lb But on the dyno, its 570 whp and 670 ft lb (wheel) So one half of the graph is crank for torque and wheel hp for for power??
@@63SC991TTS torque is what’s used to calculate power. So yes the whp on the graph is at the wheels you add drivetrain losses to the WHP but you cannot do the same for the torque figure 610WHP (depending on drivetrain loss % used will give bhp @ engine) 660-670Ib (you do not add % to this figure as torque is calculated to produce a bhp figure that is what the run down procedure usually does on a rolling road) Hope that clears things up for you :)
Can you tune the gearbox on a 991.1 gt3 and would there be any benefit to doing so since there is nothing much that can be done to increase power.
There are gains to be had from a gen 1 gt3 but requires exhaust mods. The tcu can be improved too
Check ESmotor TH-cam page, they made big improvements to a gt3!!!!
Love it! 😂😂
Merry Christmas Nick.. See you in the new year, thinking I'll be leaving the tree upgrade to the professionals 😂

Is this electric with exhaust via the speakers 🎉
This….. is…… a….. dream machine

Great video ❤
What's the sound difference like ? Is there any noticeable power increase ?
What brakes have been fitted ?
Sweet! I quite fancy one of those 😊
The Rev is addictive 😍
Thank goodness someone that talks the torque!! Not that strange language🤩🥳👍👍
Sounds fantastic Nick
🖤
Beautiful all round ❤ how’s tricks mate, long time… I’ll be in touch 😊👍
Awesome. Mine is in production. Is that Ice Grey or Chalk?
Good video, but "ULTIMATE tuning guide?" - you only talked about deleting the GPFs - what about the other 99%?
Hi Daniel! We did cover a decent amount of other information regarding the tuning process without making the video too long! Thank you for your feedback :)
Nice video and gains. According to your graph max RPM is unchanged? How much is fuel consumption affected?
Hi! How many miles did thid one have?
Hi @sergiuhv_! This particular one had around 62,000 miles on the clock. A pretty low mileage Macan from what we've seen!
DId you manage to get the 200 revs missing? GT4 revs to 8000, GTS to 7800 only... is there a way to get those revs?
Any answer?
That down shift
Tasteful burble tune
Stop saying 'wheel horsepower'. You test the car with no wheels on and that makes a significant difference. Hub horsepower is fair.
Hi @Hypersonik! Thanks for the comment, we have always used the terminology 'wheel horsepower'. A dyno measures power at the wheels, we are using a bolt on hub-dyno which is commonly more accurate in this sense.
Great video for the uk viewers thanks !
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video
I had the joy to drive a GT4 during 2 years, the dingle mods to improve the driving and performance is to reset the gearbox with shorter gearing RPM offers such improvements, after that as perfect wheel alignment is ok too. More power and torque is not needed has a single mods.
does the burbles reduced power since fuel are being wasted to create those burbles??
It's happening when you let out of the throttle so all it's doing is cooling the engine. It could help.
Great video. A must for every GT4.
We couldn't agree more!
Speaking of peak gain, your mic is peaking, reduce the gain!
YES !
Thank you for the feedback!
Did you remove the rev limiter at 7800 rpm to get to the power gain and if so, where is the new rev limiter now?
No answer?
Great video, will love to see what headers can do
excellent video explaining increases in each every step, what makes the increase in power and torque from the tune?
There’s about 60 map changes that all work together. But in basic terms it’s ignition advance, fuel, torque requests and throttle changes
How comes your getting less than 400 when I seen others punishing 410 stock?
This is at the wheels not with run down calculation for engine figures
Great to speak to you this morning Nick. Very impressed with your setup and very excited about working with you in the near future on my Cayman. All the best David
Hello David I am sure his going to read this message LOL
Hi David! Thank you for your comment! We look forward to working on your Cayman soon! Team GD
You say “won’t pass an MOT test”. Happy to be corrected but I don’t believe MOT testers can measure particulate emissions. As the CATs remain in place I can’t see why it should fail
We have to make it clear it's not for road use and therefore shouldn't pass a UK MOT from a legal standpoint. if it passes the *visual inspection* carried out by a tester then it's at the customer's discretion if it should be used on the road.
Will 100% pass mot, my car has OPF removed and passed no problem.
@@bootneck401664 As stated in our previous comment, we have to make it clear it is not for road use and therefore shouldn't pass UK MOTs from a legal standpoint. If it passes the visual inspection carried out by a tester, then it's at the customer's discretion if the vehicle is used on the road. :)
I'm surprised it wouldn't pass an MOT. Doesn't the OPF delete make it a very similar setup to the 981 (which is obviously MOT friendly)?
From a business and legal point of view, we have to make it clear to our viewers and customers that it may not pass an MOT, they may continue at their own discretion with this information :)
I had this done at Ninemeister with a stage 2 tune and it pass it MOT with no problem .
@@Peter-uu8iw Thanks for your comment Peter! Whilst this may have been the case for you, in large majority of cases, vehicles tend not to pass an MOT with this set up. We make this clear to our customers from a business point of view, and they may continue at their own discretion with this information :)
Very interesting with great explanation. Well done guys 👍🏻
@@Ethanf2107 thank you for your comment Ethan! Glad you liked the video!
I'll spank that gt4 with my (tuned) base Cayman off and on track, gt4's are overrated and overpriced, not worth it.
@@swansmeister everyone has their own opinion! Please be respectful as this is someone’s pride and joy.
Do your fastest lap in a tuned base cayman, then get into this and do a lap and your second lap will be quicker trust me :-)
@@meady200We currently own a standard 718 Cayman too! Although not the fastest round the track, the car is fantastic! It’s just a matter of personal preference!
The law of diminishing returns is apparent. The 981S represents the best bang per buck with what you can do with them.
Nice set up. What is the color of the car?
Crayon / Chalk
375-380whp for stock GT4 numbers. Now it makes sense that a 2.5T CGTS keeps up with it fairly well on track. I’ve seen a dyno video of the 2.5t making 365whp vs what Porsche claims is crank. A bit out of left field my comment I know, but good info this video 👍
Thank you for your comment Peter! We aim to provide our customers and viewers with real, honest information, so we're glad you enjoyed it!
Never seen a tune before like this where you take the rear wheels off. My god the car was shaking like mad. Can't be good for the rear axle?
Hi Lee! This is a hub-dyno, it's what most manufacturers and higher end software calibration companies use due to its accuracy and safety in comparison to a typical rolling road. The dyno will load the car to simulate road effects. The shaking is due to the pivot point on the bottom to reduce over loading of the axel. It looks exaggerated as the car isn't driving down the road with effective downforce etc. It would almost be like applying the break at low rpm and introducing full throttle for a brief moment so it will create a large amount of load. In terms of axel loading, it is no worse than the car would experience being used for its purpose on a country road or race circuit. So the vehicle is perfectly fine! Hope this helps! Nick.
The stock tune + OAP dyno results are interesting. Did not expect the torque loss to be so significant at lower RPMs. From an area under the curve standpoint it almost seems like a downgrade vs stock. For a track car of course you would take the trade off. But for a street car with such long gearing, where being at 6-8k RPMs is less common, it doesn’t seem like a good modification to make.
I've got this setup and depending on your point of view of course, the trade of a tiny bit of torque for a massive improvement in sound will be worth it for many. TBH the sound alone gives the impressions of a lot more power to the senses.
Hey Nick, with no check engine with tune and OAPs will it pass MOT? Heard conflicting things if the MOT picks up on the emissions.
Hi Spencer, thank you for your comment! Due to the GPF delete pipe kit and removal of the factory OPF, the car should only be used off road and will not pass a UK MOT test unfortunately.
Great video, Nick. Some very interesting points and a cracking end result too 👍👍
Thank you for your comment Sean! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hi do you do this for the PDK ?
Hi Ollie! Yes we do offer PDK tuning on these too.
