Running For Men's Health - Person_al_best
Join the person_al_best crew in raising awareness for men's health in Movember!
Runners from all walks of life take to the start line with their moustaches, even the ladies to support men's health
Us men are not the best for putting our hands up and asking for help and advice.
Through my work I want to show that's its ok not to be ok and talking about struggles is not a sign of weakness, its a sign of strength!
The biggest killer of men my age, of all the scary things out there, is themselves, through suicide.
So lets talk, lets be open about how we feel and hopefully watching me run around may inspire others to start running for their mental health.
It's the best medicine for my mental health and I've met so many great people through my running journey
Join me on my channel, follow my journey and lets make talking about how we feel as normal as ordering a coffee
5k, 10k, half marathon and Mini MoRuns take place on Town Moor Newcastle.
I run the 10k so its 2 loops of this course and then hit the brilliant Urban Green Cafe for breakfast.
This is my return to my first ever organized running event and it'll always be special to me.
Check out the joke at the very beginning, I've been making the same dad joke for 3 years now and its becoming tradition and it still makes me laugh.
If you can work out the little secret code between me and Meg at the end of the video, give yourself a pat on the back

It's not about the time mate at least you did it . Great run great cause well done 👍
Thanks Thomas, yeah there's always the moment during and just after a race when a slow time can feel crushing. Thankfully a coffee and reflection got me to snap out of that
Al great videos as always , please remember comparison is the thief of Joy , You were out there doing it , with everybody else , you are a winner and a true runner
Thanks John I was just concerned that the more I train the slower I get and its getting to me
As a Goth Weekend it probably ended 10 years ago. Now fancy dress, and not much else.
It was limited edition too.
And I've lost the receipt
@personalbest warranty probably ran out too... good job you like it
Well done bud my first time doing it next yeah have you got any tips for me bud you have a new subscriber mate epic
Thanks for the subscribe! 😊 Mate the atmosphere is unreal so the best tip I can give you for your first time is, forget about time and have a good time. Just take it all in and enjoy it.
@ thank you so much I know I will be a bag of nerves as I have autism and adhd
@@brandonkennedy5848 I'm always nervous at start lines but the people help calm me and the Great North Run has the best people around. You'll love it mate. Keep in contact and let me know how you're doing

Lovely vid. You got some great cinematics, love that you went under the pier.

Al, it was another great day. The atmosphere was still of the charts even though it rained. For us runners it felt great keeping us faster one cool.
Great video matey I would have loved to do it the atmosphere looks awesome I spotted my running buddy who I trained barging her way past 2 guys at 11:57 she smashed her PB by 6 minutes and 21 seconds I was well proud of her.
Loving the vids big man!
Making a big deal about this half marathon is pretty sad - people of ages and capacities are running marathons all over the world on roads, trails and mountains - please lets get real - any road half marathon is just not a big deal
It's a shame you feel this way. I hope whatever makes you so negative gets better soon 👍
@@andybarelyrunsyou're a lot more polite than I want to be
@amblincork I don't know what makes you think you have the right to put a comment like that. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Rock on Personal Al. You will eventually be crushing these "elites". Just need start training 20 years ago, have better genetics and revamp your diet. Easy peasy.
Lol
You don’t have skills because you littered
@@annetteuddin757 I picked it up and kept trying then place it in the bin at the end. Watching a 30 second video to the end, is skills
Amazing that you got to go on the start line with super athletes Al. Well done on giving it a go and not giving in. I bet it was very nerve wracking. It was like that for me and I was in the pink wave 🙈🙈🙈😂😂

That start is something else - mindblowing and chaotic all rolled into one. Loved your video you really captured how it REALLY was out there, how hard everyone is working, the amazing crowds, the rain 😂, your grit towards the end. Just brilliant. 🎉
@@Sallyannsworld thank you 😊 I was like a big kid at the start, I couldn't stop smiling. Love this comment as that's always my goal, it's not about me but to capture what's around me and that atmosphere and support was something really special. Yep as my face doesn't lie that end was so hard but every shout made me look up, smile and keep pushing.
Good to see you at the finish line 😊
@@deansummerton2577 yeah finally good to meet you in person. Of all the runners there and we meet crossing the finish line 😀
Al, you did absolutely brilliant and your video really sums up how I found the run too. Loads of people you don't know supporting you, encouragement from onlookers and from fellow runners. Just a fantastic atmosphere and one of the most uplifting experiences as a runner (and just as a human being). Brilliant day and I hope you're back next year for more. All the best
@@JoeKeaveney aww thanks Joe, this means alot as I'm all about trying to capture an atmosphere and the feelings. Even though at times I'm firmly in the hurt locker hearing all those screams, shouts of supports and cute little kids singing in the rain just makes you smile and keep on pushing. The whole thing gives you a different perspective on humanity with all the kindness out there from total strangers. The world can be a hurtful place but moments like this, wow, it's beautiful, even in the rain. If Great Run want me back I'd love to return. There's nothing like it. Take care
I missed you Al, must have run past you whilst dodging other runners. The GNR is an event you either run hard or you just soak up the atmosphere, which showcases the best of the North East. With the rain I chose to run it but you've gotta high five a ton of kids on the way.
Really great work Al and great to see the Great North Run in its entirety. It looks rather nerve-wracking at the end when you get your medal. You are rather tall. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
@@jaydenprince563 you rarely see the course from the runners perspective. The final mile is something special. Nerve-wracking getting the medal? Nah that and the brownie was the best bit 😄
I think with having a longstanding problem with anxiety and now a diagnosis of ADHD and Asperger's that gets in the way. I love racing but the logistics gets my anxiety spiralling.
@@jaydenprince563 totally understand this. This was part of my nerves before thr run and the day before. There's so many people so if you struggle with social anxiety this will be challenging.
@@personalbestOh I've been running for a long time now so I am okay with the numbers of people. It's just when I haven't run somewhere before and it's all new and rather daunting. It's crazy though because I leave the event and everything goes well. You will know what I mean by that.
How did you get right to the front? Awesome! I was about half an hour later lol

@@AdamStobbart oh mate that's amazing to read! Exactly what one of the missions of this video was, to show it from a different point of view and let the course and the people speak for it to hopefully inspire others to run and to join. Smash it! 💪
Well done Al, you did a great job - running and filming. Don't compare yourself to the elites- as the saying goes " comparison is the thief of joy"
@@graemeharlow5689 thanks, I do lose time running and filming but for me the sacrifice is worth it. The elites was fun to find out I can't get anywhere near them even in a full on sprint. Makes you really appreciate the effort and speed these runners go at for long distances. You don't see it on the TV
Huge well done Al. Love how lots of people recognise you now. Keep on doing what you do. Not sure I could run with a recording stock all the way. You smashed it as always. Until the next time. 👍👏👏👏
