Flint Dibble, Joe Rogan, Graham Hancock, and What Comes Next
#realarchaeology #GrahamHancock #joerogan #archaeology
A candid discussion with Dr. Flint Dibble about how he prepared for and carried out his debate with Graham Hancock on the Joe Rogan Experience. We also discuss what's happened since the debate, our feelings about guys like Dan Dedunker, and where we go from here to promote quality science communication.
Apologies parts of the footage of my video were corrupted, so some long shots on Flint listening to me talk because of it. You didn't miss much, I promise.

    After watching this entire video I have came to the conclusion that you are very focused on trying to disprove the paper but not focused enough on answering serious questions raised from this site as I can one say after traveling there that it is most definitely NOT natural. Hancock might be full of shit but who cares whats really going on in this site and how can we get answers

    • @ArchaeologyTube
      @ArchaeologyTube วันที่ผ่านมา

      It being natural is not my opinion it is the conclusion of every legitimate geologist who has analyzed the site. This video is a critique of the archaeology, something I can actually speak on and which I can assure you is quite bad

  • @ObviousBooks
    @ObviousBooks 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    A fascinating video, also amusing, but we worry that this "National Trust policy" comment at 11:50 might ignite Hancock fandom. The problem only ever is private ownership of everyone's legacy. Corporatism feeds conspiracy thinking.

    • @ArchaeologyTube
      @ArchaeologyTube 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You’re talking about data privacy stuff here? There are times when there are legal restrictions about when and how data can be released. This rarely if ever is because of private or corporate concerns. More often it’s related to governmental restrictions, and ones that are usually pretty reasonable. Like when sites are located in or around military locations or important infrastructure. I promise you this is not used maliciously. Sometimes exact site locations - not site data - but locations are restricted to prevent looting. This I can tell you is very important. Like sometimes there are rules about how big the dot on your map needs to be so that readers can tell where a site is located within a few square kilometers, but not close enough so someone could grab a shovel and go dig it up.

    • @ObviousBooks
      @ObviousBooks วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ArchaeologyTube Interesting! And that makes perfect sense - the need for certain privacies as related to site security. But what I thought I heard being described, because I am culturally conditioned to hear in this way, was of some sort of IP situation standing between the people and their own data. It's exactly that kind of corporatist gatekeeping (and not the necessary limitations you describe above) that creates the cultural voids in which conspiracy theories run riot. So kudos for opening up this informative (and entertaining) line of discussion, and please keep it going! What urgently needs examining by #RealArchaeology (please!) is the situation at Barabar. Because there we are informed of ancient precision on a massive scale: the human-made chambers are, we are told, leagues of difficulty beyond vases, statuary, and sarcophagi. Of course, my source on Barabar is the unabashed fabulists at "BAM" (Builders of the Ancient Mysteries). Still. How'd the ancestors do that? "Over generations, by hand" - is as unsatisfying an answer as aliens or sound waves.

    • @ObviousBooks
      @ObviousBooks วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ArchaeologyTube No, I misunderstood you. What you describe here makes perfect sense. I was thinking of science journal paywalls, IP, and other forms of institutional corruption by money profit. A mishearing, but it just goes to show the miserable wavelength one is tuned to under capitalism. In his conjuration of a lost high-tech civilization Hancock does at least speak to the need for moderns to radically rethink our nonexistent sense of a spiritual life. Then again, it is rather bizarre to suggest that there is some missing bit of tech that might make our souls whole. This is an excellent channel. Please discuss Barabar in northeastern India and the claims made about it by the BAM folk. Thank you!

    I’d love more videos! Just riffing and sharing your current thoughts. I saw that Graham is being newly promoted on huge channels (Alex Friedman) and has his new video about “I’m a victim of Flint Dibble’s master manipulation” on his channel. It’s frustrating to me as a former fan of his who felt like I was leaving a cult when I discovered real archeologists and historians. I was literally saving up money to go on a tour with UnchartedX, I’d purchased most of Hancock’s books and even given them out as gifts! I feel like I discovered real archeologists by a sort of miracle (a random reply to a comment on an UnchartedX video, about 100 responses down, saying simply “check out sacred geometry decoded to see how it was done.” The comment intrigued me, so I did, and my mind was blown. That led me to many legitimate channels including yours. That one comment was removed from UnchartedX’s video within a couple days, that’s how tightly he keeps his comments in check, so his fans don’t see any sort of pushback. It’s like a cult! This is what cult leaders do. And it’s kind of heartbreaking to see now whole new groups of young people just discovering Graham and “realizing” suddenly that Big Archeology is the evil of the world. Graham used to have a ton of older fans, my step father in his 70s for example. But now he’s being paraded out by incredibly large platforms with ZERO PUSHBACK and getting young generations in the tens or hundreds of thousands. I guess I just feel sad. I’m 35, I thought I was the last and youngest of his followers, but it’s like a never ending conspiracy loop. And it’s doing real damage in the world. It’s promoting and insulating racists. I’m sure you feel more frustrated than I do. Anyway, thanks and please more videos!

    A ton of people freaking out come across as trapped in misinformed echo chamber at best if not severely mentally or in some cases wildly hateful propeganda spewers at worst. If they really cared about archaeology they would attempt to become properly educated about how the field works but instead they just want the dopamine and unearned sense of importance from thinking they uncovered or are privy to some supressed information.

      Is that true? News to me! I know there are some breakable stuff with items higher up but this was really just about how to get to the bottom without dying

      It is my scientific opinion that it is not. It's a cool archaeological site though, no pyramid needed.
