Skating Again In My 40's - What I've Learned In 2 Years
มุมมอง 42K4 ปีที่แล้ว
After quitting skateboarding more than two decades ago, my 40's were calling and I couldn't resist skating again. Here are the tricks I've learned over the last two years.
Hi, what cam are you using? Thx =]
Come on you young uns , I was 49 the other day, watching you lot keeps me going, skate until you can't skate no more.
I'm 49 , still skating on an 80s Santa Cruz Rob roskopp face deck, I think I'm going to take a look at the Andy Anderson set up from Powell.
Is there any alternative to the pvc pipe? Its really hard to find it near me
Is that apex skatepark?
If you have extra grip you can wrap your nose or tail like a nose guard the more you cover the edge the more scratching it can prevent. I like this method but it takes time for the glue to cure completely. If I did this to a new deck I would skate it to give a little bit of sctrathing and imperfections so the glue absorbs into it better.
Good stuff brother!
Great video, man. Thanks for all the details. I'm turning 40 in January, 2025 and I've been skating since 2000. Let's keep skating!
I skate the DF 93a 54x39mm so a pretty wide wheel. I noticed I just had to change how I push through or body and foot position to make up for when they grip. I also like when they do grip and save me from sliding out where a hard wheel would leave me on my ass. I had a bunch of back to back leg injuries including the Achilles tendinitis you mentioned. So wheels like these is what allowed me to skate again when I thought I was done. I’m 40 and I wish I had these wheels 10 years ago because that was the first time I realized getting old and skating is hard. You don’t bounce anymore and all the bounces from the previous 10 years come back during your sleep.
Hell yeah 👍 keep it up. Thanks for the inspiration
Love it brother
WOW, this is an amazing video, I've seen other videos on the trick go into detail but not like this. Awesome dude! I'll come back for an update
it was usefull, thanks a lot for your efforts🙏
It’s cool that it protects the tail but also disappointing that only lasts for one two skate sessions max.
1 month since i started again. i'm 34s and stop before my 20s so i'm already addicted and doing everything to extende my health to play until i die hhaha.
Where are the new vids?
I really like your rail and box setup, they look extremely sturdy
i wonder if he got caught up in all the "lighter board and trucks" i did,and am starting to think its crap and doesnt matter because youre only talkin a few grams, tops an ounce
Impact me , financially! Love this ,thank you!
There’s a lot of truth to perfecting the weight of your setup in comparison to what you skate. I keep flipping between thunder hollows and thunder standards just because the weight difference is observable when popping up stuff and skating faster, etc. I feel safe with a heavier board when skating faster.
I build it and it is very sturdy and doesn’t wobble. Grinds well too. It came out to 160 dollars for all the lumber and screws
I will say this is a great tip but that PVA is not good for the environment. Its non renewable and non natural since its made from fossil fuels but wood and maple especially is. Maple grows fantastically all across north america. As far as VPA goes though, there are enzymes added to municipal water sources to break it down but that doesnt mean trillions of micro plastics arent leeched into soils before they make it to a water way that may or may not make it to a water treatment facility that cleans the water. also micro plastics sink and can embed in waterways or get consumed by animals in and around those waterways. Better than epoxy though.
You should just pick a board that does it all and get used to it
Dope vid dude subbed 🤙🏽🔥🛹
I'm 43, stopped at 17. Body memory is still there but I lost agility and strength. I wonder whether it would help me get back balance and strength or be detrimental to my knees...also, feel a bit silly surrounded by kids in a skatepark:)
Anyone tried resin?
Thanks for this, I’ve just been using this glue for the first time tonight on my skateboards nose, it’s cracked and has a bad pop. Using claps on it
Crazy how you rock being 40 on cam but on the board in skinnies you look 20 haha. Skateboarding keeps u young
❤❤❤
Why mounting hardware did you use?
hey this is a great idea, we really should be doing things like this to help save trees. ive found that almost boards razor tail a little slower than other brands because of the resin glue they use. most of their boards also have some form of their impact tech, which really helps keep the pop longer. ive tested them back to back over months against regular 7 plys, and was pretty impressed. you can also re-grip older boards too. combine all these things together with your glue idea, and you could have some seriously long lasting boards. it's hard for sure to fight that urge for new ones, but it's worth it to ride them until you actually feel they hold back your tricks
This is awesome! I’m also about to get back into skating after more than 15 years. I’m 32 now. Thanks for the inspiration
Lots of great content in here…just started working on kickflips with my son. Found this video extremely helpful!! Thank you for sharing
Great tips
Thanks man really helpful video
as i kid i couldn't really afford new boards.. ever? i basically survived on hand me downs til i got my first job! there was this one board that i had this exact idea for! i used to fill in chips with wood glue too! that board in particular in the end was more wood glue than board! it basically had no kicks by the time i was done with it. i remember finally getting a newer board from a friend and i could finally pop again haha!
Great video, I just found your channel and subscribed. I love setup videos and sorry you messed up your foot but stoked you are back.
Awesome tribute and I hope you saw Ben on the nine club. Do you think you’ll be getting Ben’s new deck from antihero? I think I might.
love your vids man! inspirational. 37 here from the UK and almost have a kickflip. love skatboarding now more than ever!
Brother just turned 34 and the bottom of my feet are nowhere near the strength they were I quit skating around 2010....wtf I was humbled really quick....Re-learn balance and just at the skate park the cruising around started to hurt my feet, went down a rabbit hole with wheels...it showed me how little I actually knew about the actual mechanics of a skateboard bought ricta clouds 52mm 92a (swapped from spitfire something again old gear from 2010) and now I get a good 1hr ish before my feet start to hurt. I have some independent truck idk what model. But point being here I am trying to understand all this new light tech plus the new players of ceramic bearings ( any type of bones bearings "were" the go to..)wtf what a time to be alive...
Sounds more like a question of finding the best technique on tricks
You have a good kickflip but your shoulders are not straight! It will help you be more consistent
I've been debating trying to skate again. I'm 34, and in the best shape of my life now, and feel like I need some sort of sport. I used to mess around on a skateboard as a teen, but similar thing, couldn't really do tricks. The occasional ollie. It seems like it could be a lot of fun, but it's daunting, man...
Only thing you need for a kickflip is the pop and the flick. This video is way too confusing
What a pure wholesome video.
Peace, thank you for this, im 47 and been a loooooong time for me due to bad decisions etc i miss it so much and dont know why just want to get comfortable again , fxck the skaye park i could get down on a curb str8 up lol peace n good energy from 732Nj ✌🏻💨 its hard finding anyone to sk8 w anymore lol
32 years old, getting back into skating after 15 years. Got the kickflips back pretty quickly, and while moving. Still trying to clean them up, get better height, less rocket. In just a day, with adjustments in mind, I went from landing on the board as it hit the ground, to catching it in the air (not very high but still.) I’m gonna focus much more this time around on mastering my tricks and making sure they look good.
I’m so inspired by this bro
interesting about the humidity! @10:00 . I have decided my 93 dragons are just really good cruiser wheels. X97 or X99 bones for when I actually want to skate and do tricks but still get the benefit of this formula.
Bones X97 are the exact same thing but slightly harder duro. HIGHLY recommend. the 99s are pretty good too but if you're in bad rough crusty ground, or the joints issue is a thing, 97 all the way. slide way better, less RUBBERY feel. Spitfire is releasing a new 93 that slides right now also!
