Hear me out… Red Dead Redemption threes protagonist should be Mac Calendar… Maybe something could happen to the point where he starts to redeem himself… and the final mission would be the Blackwater heist and he dies by Agent Milton and Agent Ross then the epilogue… I ain’t sure who we would play as but I might have an idea of who… and plus It wouldn’t make sense about the third game being about Arthur in a Prequel to Red Dead Redemption 2 when at this point in his early life there’s nothing redeeming for…

The problem with this is we know how the story ends and what happens to each character. Doesn’t leave much room for a big moment ending. Before you say it, no they should not do the black water massacre… RDR 3 needs to be new characters with a new story either set around the same time or 1870s-80s.

No offense, but you guys are going way too much off heart rather than logic. We want a prequel but do we need it? No, we don’t. We don’t NEED to see the young gang narratively, we want to. And I’m in the same boat. But we already know so much about the gang that there is no (meaningful) story left to tell. Playing as a Callender brother or young Arthur would seem narratively forced. Jack in WW1 wouldn’t be the Wild West anymore (and his story is left ambiguous on purpose). We don’t need to see Blackwater. The discourse is much more fun than seeing it and having the mystery be spoiled. It is in my belief that we should leave the gang for new characters, ones who can actually have a story be told.

I'd rather have three different characters maybe even Landon ricketts. But three characters with three different stories maybe a gunslinger maybe a outlaw bank robber and a farmer trying to get revenge for his family being killed

In my opinion, combined with many other people, a prequel might not be as good because there’s no suspense or we already know their fate but now that I come to think of it, it won’t ruin the RDR franchise for number of reasons 1. They were just need to make it perfect an interesting. 2. When you generally think of bad, prequel, or sequel’s you only hate the movie. Sometimes it gets so bad it might actually win the entire franchise, but if you think about it hard enough it wont 3. RDR is such a great masterpiece. You possibly can’t ruin it

Boring, prequel to a prequel where we know how the story goes on both ends, very low stakes. I say Jacks story is fresh and needs closure, make him get arrested and put in prison for life after killing edgar ross, game can start with him in prison befriending someone there, while in prison he is drafted to WW1 and sent frontlines, he and his friend he made make a break for it and escape and beat all odds, they are stuck in europe until they smuggle onto a ship back to america and the 2 of them are the most wanted men in the united states, in a changing world that can have mexico still be under-developed and wild while america is building great cities it can make a nice backdrop for a rapidly dying and tamed wild west, T model ford can be a late game vehicle, Jack can start his own mafia, an old and grey Sadie Adler could try to take Jack in or work as a Double agent for him, Charles story could seek closure, maybe he runs a casino now (lol) and helps Jack, possibilities are endless and the story is wide open.

I would love this, but the one thing about playing as Arthur again is that he learns so many gameplay mechanics in RDR2 that he apparently didn’t know how to do before, so he wouldn’t be able to use a bow/hunt (Pearson said he never had hunted well + he tells Charles he never got the hang of it), and some other aspects. He also couldn’t have a custom horse since he had Bodecia. Maybe the multiple protagonist system would work best then.

I personally wouldnt want a 3rd game. So many franchises get big off of the first 2 good entries then slowly get worse and worse. Sure Rockstar generally makes homerun games, but even they can mess up beloved games like with their handling of the GTA definitive edition remasters. Since redemption is in the title, what redemption would a young Arthur or a younger Dutch go through? They wouldnt have one. Plus at that time the gang would be small and there likely wouldnt be this grand building of tension like in 2. Most modern Westerns end tragically or have a tragic side. Sure Arthur’s son and his “lover” die but im not sure how thatd work in a gameplay or narrative sense since he’d leave those two for months on end. With us knowing Dutch, Hosea, and Arthur, John, and possibly if they are in the gang by the time of the game, Bill, and Javier would all have plot armor. Thus reducing any level of tension to nothing. RDR2 worked so well because while it did have to retcon some parts of 1s backstory, it also gave us far more gangmembers that we never heard of, so any of the newer members including arthur from Chpt 1 were possible casualties. I think they should stop at rdr2. Im not sure how theyd top rdr2 with a sequel.

I believe RDR 3 should be about Jack. There’s nothing wrong about the west being dead at that point and maybe talk about the rise of the industrial age and keep the elements of the Wild West intact with the history of the Gold rush and expansion to the west for land. That story about Dutch and the beginnings of his gang should be a Masterpiece of a DLC Story. I think it would cool to drive a first gen automobile in those times and the introduction of the mafia 😎
