    one thing you might want to add is the importance of the corner of the blade to cutting. The corner is the first part of the blade that gets rounded off. Its the first part of the blade that hits whatever your cutting and if that corner is rounded over your not going to get maximum cutting ability as well. That's why the manufacturer tells you a new blade will cut well is because that corner is perfect when it's new. when you sharpen a worn blade it's that corner that is the most difficult to get square again. You have to shorten the blade in order to get that back. You also might want to add that a dull blade is harder on your motor.

    Ive had mine for a week and think its superb . They cost about £110 in the UK . Used it all day on a gardening job and dont intend going back to loppers . Its brushed , so longuevity could be an issue . With a 5Ah battery it does get heavy after prolong use , so simply change hands . The irritating safety switch helps keep my thumbs attached 👍

    I use a similar process. One thing I noticed is to make sure grinder rotates "in" from the edge towards the blade to avoid leaving a big burr on edge. If you have an impact gun of appropriate size (as to not over-tighten), you can use that to remove and install without the clamp. That said, for giggles I always take a sharpening stone and finish the edge after grinding to cut down any burr, but I admit thats way overkill and the resulting razor edge is probably back to grinder only sharpness after the first mow.

    Hello, I write from Santiago de Chile, your video is very good and the review is excellent... it is true what you say Dewalt should simplify the tools and the same thing happens with the inner tube cutter that they sell on Amazon if they do not sell the blades they force you to buy a tool new... The reason the blade manufacturers don't provide a sharp blade to begin with is cost and liability. A dull blade won't cut someone who's handling it. It would add cost for them to sharpen it then provide some kind of cover or protection to prevent cuts from handling a sharp blade. Not to mention adding all manner of cautions and warnings with the blade to keep the lawyers happy.

    Man who has all this time. Also I like many expected probably a few rows cut with dull blade. Few with new and sharpened to show what the lawn actually looks like. I bet you have to resharpen the blade every few weeks to keep it that sharp. Which would be a nightmare. Just scrapping the darn underneath of a mower is annoying enough. I have a bunch of stupid walnut trees around my yard. This season had 10 times as many as I’ve ever seen. My blade took a beating.

    Summer trimming and pruning around our summer cottage usually takes about two days' work and with the pruner I had half of it done in a three hour morning. Took the rest of the day off and finished it off the next morning. Easily worth the $140ish (Canadian dollars) considering it effectively gave me an extra day to do things I want to do.

    Lawnmower blades are tempered to be tough but not brittle. If you hit a rock etc with a blade tempered like a file it would shatter. If you’ve ever tried to straighten a bent blade you’d see how tough they are.

  • @44hawk28
    @44hawk28 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There is a way to make it hold that edge longer. That 30° Edge is a fairly durable angle. But sheet metal is not particularly well-tempered. If you take the paint off of that sharpened area and you heat it up to a fairly orangish glow and then you drop it into some water just splash it real quick and then watch it as soon as that steals starts to turn blue dump it back into the water and finish cooling it. You do that to both ends equally it will hold its Edge far better than just the regular sheet metal. I was a sheet metal mechanic for 41 years. I could take tools that were going very quickly when I was trying to pull welds apart or something like that. And make them where they could cut steel for quite some time before I had to just sharpen it quickly with a file. And once you have that very sharp edge it will sharpen with a file a bit more consistently.

    Learned some things I did not know before. Only thing I disapprove of is that when grinding red hot it chips easier. What happens is that the steel loosens hardening, becoming softer. So it becomes dull faster. A historical note. Before lawn mowers existed, scythes was used. When harvesting, a stick with abrasives was always carried. Used several times a day to keep the blade sharp.
