Come sit down with us and learn about old baits, techniques, the anglers who put the sport on the map, old boats, books, magazines, you name it, we cover it here on the Bass Fishing Archives TH-cam Channel.
Lee Sisson The Series Part Three
In the final part of Lee Sisson The Series, Lee talks about Jim Bagley, Lew Childre, and how he started Lee Sisson Lures after working for Bagley for over ten years.
Sisson gets into his relationships with industry giants of the day and discusses how it's changed over the years from hand shakes to big business. Sisson designed baits for over 30 years and I'm sure you'll be surprised at some of the baits he had a hand on over his long abundant career. Please like and share!

Lee Sisson The Series Part 2. A Bad Miss Produces a New Series of Baits.
มุมมอง 84911 หลายเดือนก่อน
In Lee Sisson The Series Part 2 we look into the opportunity that Jim Bagley and Lee Sisson missed, working with lure designer Tom Seward and what became the Natural Ike series of life-like crankbaits. Bagley and Sisson didn't know about pad printing at the time and upon receiving a sample lure from Seward they knew they wouldn't be able to make the lure with the paint technology they currently...
Lee Sisson The Series Part One. From Baton Rouge to Winter Haven and the Divin' B3
มุมมอง 828ปีที่แล้ว
Early in 2023 I had the opportunity to sit down with legendary bait designer Lee Sisson and talk about his career in the lure industry. For nearly two hours we talked about the past 50 years and how he got to Winter Haven Florida from Baton Rouge Louisiana. How he came up with the Divin' B series, his favorite crankbait he designed, and some lessons learned over the years. Here is Part One of t...
Mike Estep and the Genesis of the Squarebill Crankbait
มุมมอง 5Kปีที่แล้ว
This is the story about another early squarebill maker, Mike Estep, of Oak Ridge Tennessee. Estep was taught how to make plugs from Fred C. Young, the maker of the Big-O. The Big-O changed the face of crankbaits and the genre of baits would become known as the Squarebill. Estep took what he learned from Fred Young and built on that design. He created the first wooden crankbait with a rattle, a ...

The History of Hiroshi Nishine and Nishine Lure Works
มุมมอง 3832 ปีที่แล้ว
If you’re a Japanese lure afficionado, you’re going to like today’s video post, Hiroshi Nishine - Nishine Lure Works. Hiroshi’s company has been around since 2006 but it has only been in the last few years that Nishine Lure Works has been noticed in the U.S. Hiroshi’s story is much deeper than him moving to Canada to start a lure manufacturing company and we, along with Hiroshi, are going to te...
Bobby Murray, Steve Price, and Gary Klein Talk The Old Days
มุมมอง 3642 ปีที่แล้ว
It isn’t often you get to witness three legends in the industry talk about the beginning days of competitive bass fishing. Last week we featured Ray Scott, Bobby Murray, and Bill Dance whooping it up at the 2014 Bassmaster Classic, talking old times around Doyle Hodgin’s 1971 Bass Masters Classic boat. This week we’re back at the Classic, but this time it’s 2015. Again, three stalwarts of the s...

Cant beat Harry N Charlie !
Ike happens....
Remarkable video.
Hildebrandt has always been the best blades you can purchase! The Oceechobee Special was! And still is the best spinnerbait ever produced! First made in Logansport Indiana 1893! Being from Chicago The Johnson Silver Minnow and The Hildebrandt Blade models were some of the best fishing metal you could fish! And the Daredivil Spoons!
I used to fish a in-line buzz bait with a Mr. Twister Hawg Frog on it back in the early 80's. I was just a kid who didnt know much about bass fishing. But i was always tinkering with different baits to see what would work.
I am intrigued with the amount of aftermarket parts available for these old reels. However, I am of the mind and experience that a true “super tune” is not a part change out only. It must involve polishing machined surfaces to a mirrored finished. The ends of the spool axle need a mirrored finish. The square brass pieces in the casting adjust knob need a mirror finish. The spool axle where it contacts the pinion gear needs a mirror finish. The inside of the pinion gear needs a mirror finish. All surfaces involved in the drag mechanism need a mirror finish. Polishing the inside of the brake drum to a mirrored finish will in crease braking control and casting distance. Polishing these surfaces will greatly reduce friction in the reel. This is true super tuning in my most humble opinion. Great video with good information on after market parts.
If they had only known back then what was coming down the pike
One of my favorite anglers. Funny how his name is pronounced liv-a-see. Good guy. Thank you for the interview.
Great angler! I hope he will return to BASS one day and compete for the Classic.
Great guy! So happy for his success and living his dream! Thank you for the interview. I hope you can talk to Takahiro Omori also.
Buck Perry knew more about fishing than any man who ever lived. He was a true genius.
Loved it...I've got a 1500C but, I'm keeping it OG....it's too much fun!!! 😊
Mr Lee sisson. I have 2 of your custom rods. One is signed by you. I need some info on them please? I'm between a rock amd a hard place unfortunately may need to sell them.
Very cool. Hope it brings back good memories.
AWESOME" THANKS FOR SHARING! I'VE GOT MOSTLY FENWICK BORON X RODS! JUST PUT A MODERN REEL ON IT AND BEEN THROWING THAT FOR FUN-SUPER ACCURATE AND LIGHT!
I just picked me up one of these this afternoon found this video only one on TH-cam
Was the number still on the engine cover?
can the 5000C1 be super tuned ?
Pretty much all old ABU reels can be.
I still have a Lew’s Speed Stick, Pistol Grip,with a BB1 Lew Childres reel❤
I have dozens of Lee Sisson Lures that I bought years ago, still in original packaging, including his weedless square bills😜
What a great interview !! I’m a huge Bagley fan!! Growing up in Florida. We can go to the local Albertsons and pick up Bagley baits as mom shopped… then take them to the canal behind our house and catch bass right out of the package !! What memories !!
Thank you Ralph!!!
Terry, thanks for getting Lee to share such wonderful memories!! Doc
Hey Doc, sorry for the late reply. I've been a bit busy with the day job... Thank you sir for the kind words! Terry
Terry have you ever heard of the touchdown worm it was made in Columbus, Indiana. A pre-rigged worm that had a bend in the middle kind of shaped like an L it was a fish catcher it was probably a more of a regional thing. As always great show 👍👍👍
Hey Darius! U have not heard of the Touch Down worm but it sounds a lot like the K&E worm from Michigan. About 4-5 inches long with small gold aberdeen hooks in it? I used it a bit way back when...... Thanks for the support man! Terry
I love these stories! I still have my Lew's Speed Stick I bought with my birthday money when I was 10 years old. Best 19.99 I ever spent! My step father almost had a cow that I spent so much for a fishing rod, but since it was my money he just kind of laughed ; ) I also have a Lew Childres graphite speed stick with a Lew Childres reel BB-1lMG, no serial numbers it just says 'made in Japan' on the bottom. Must be a much later reel? I got it in a second hand tackle store in Summerdale, Alabama which is just a few miles north of Foley. thank you for all the history!
Thank you Kevin for the story and the support!
Lee Sisson is a legend ... and a great person. One of my favorite people.
Ken thank you for setting up this interview!
@@BassFishingArchives After all the controversy between the googans and the milikens. I think a look back at the LA Slider from 2006 would be more than appropriate. Basically, the legendary Mag Draft is not an original core-design. ("core-design" should be a term used more often)
My favorite part of the videos there all great but I'm a lews fan I enjoy learning everything I can about there history along with Manns...Sisson..lew's...bagley... norman.... chambers what I'd give to of been a fly on the wall back then that cane pole is awesome
Thank you Dustin!
No thank you an lee this the stuff I wonder an enjoy an should be recorded before everyone's gone .. Man I couldn't imagine having one of the first bb1s Lee's a treasure we need more lees an less googans lol thanks again
Amen!
Great series. Lee needs to write a book. He's got so many great stories.
Thank you Dave!
I love this stuff, Terry!
Thank you David!
Awesome series Terry! Was very glad to wake up to this
Thank you Bobby!
This has to be my favorite series to date❤. I'm just a HUGE Lee Sisson fan.
Thank you Erick!
This is awesome!.
Thank you Chad!
The Bass-N-Shad was one of the best crankbaits of all time. I wish they still made them.
@piedmontfishing824, Yes they were. And, I bet you can find some at Aberdeen Bait and Tackle still. :-)
@@BassFishingArchives thank you I’ll go down there and see.
Love this show 👍👍💯💯💯💯
Darius, thank you sir for the kind words!
Loving the series! Made my day waking up to Pt.2. Can't wait for Pt.3!
Glad you liked it RNM!!!
The funny part was, Tom hand built the first dozen or two protos of what became the Natural Ike, starting with a Bagley DB3 and a lot of hand sanding. I miss Tom and the 8 page letters hand printed on yellow legal pad sheets, replete with detailed diagrams.
Rich, glad you liked the video. I was impressed by what Lee had to say about Tom. I just wonder what would have happened if Bagley had taken Tom up on his lure design.
Great Series. Looking Forward to the next.
Thank you Bill!
The bait works so good I still make them just like that pretty much Except I Spray them by hand
Man, he has some great stories. Thanks for preserving some of them, Terry.
Lroyson, yes sir, he does. Thank you for the support!
Bagley's are my all time favorite . The DDKB2 will come through a tree top better than any other, it will also catch the fire out of bass hiding in those tops! I probably have 200 Bagley baits, most are the Kill'r Bee 2. The Honey Bee and Kill'r Bee 1 also got plenty of use, with many battle scars. I do have a few Sisson baits, but they were not as easy to find. Great baits though.
Thank you for watching hytek!
Love this content buddy! So much history to be told 🖖🎣
Thank you Ted!!! I really appreciate you watching!
I love history and I love to bass fish so for me these videos are fantastic.
Thank you TNBass!
Lee did fairly well in B.A.S.S. Opens and had a brief stint on the B.A.S.S. Elite series.
This trip is on my 2024 bucket list!
You gotta go !
Great video love the history of the art
Thank you Jon!
As a bait builder I love this series with legendary builders. Great job Terry 👍
Thank you Bassin101!
Great stories! Can't wait to hear more.
Thank you Stumpjack!
After watching this interview (again), I have gained a tremendous amount of respect for the Nishine name brand. Without reading and watching content from Bass Fishing Archives, such as the Big Bass Podcast and Bass Fishing at Night channels, I don't think I could have recognized Mr. Nishine's story to be (possibly more) deserving of legendary recognition as Patrick Sabile's has been. Your passion is definitely recognized, Terry. I can't thank you enough.
Thank you Secretbassrigs! I appreciate the kind words. I’m glad you liked the video.
If that house on Lake Biwa was haunted, it was "haunted" by fishermen, and will continue to be so if humanity still matters.
I got to meet and speak with him back at the Bass a thon. Just a fascinating man with loads and loads of fishing knowledge. Great Interview guys
Thank you Erick!
Terry, This was an awesome show that brought back great memories for me. As a kid growing up in Hickory NC I had the great fortune to have Blake take me fishing several times on Norman and Wylie (an incredible experience for me) and know Rodney as well. My dad bought my first boat from Blake, none other than a red Ranger TR. Thanks again for the great history from this and all your other videos.
Thank you Lee! Much appreciated!
I was in a really weird place, this time last year. "I'm feeling much better now" -The Sixth Sense (movie). Berkeley really seems to have a corporate version of Munchausen by proxy. All they had to do was not treat Grow Design Works like they were insignificant. The timing couldn't have been worse as Spro had just released the Chad Shad in collaboration with KGB himself. Now, it's going to take a while for them to get over the well deserved stigma.
