    Increasing or establishing psychological safety has to start with some bravery...mostly from the Scrum Master (in having the courage to defend and protect the team), but also by the individual team members (in speaking up). Bad social habits must be pointed out, followed by showing a mature alternative. Give permission to be wrong, to be silly, to make mistakes, to let the mind wander, to try new things, and to be not "working" every second. Make it OK to be a team made up of humans inside of your corporate machine. And strive to change management's mindset, both through Agile evangelism and training, and by producing the expected results.

    I don’t have a problem with agile as much as I have problems with companies who bastardize agile to make it into whatever they want. I’ve met very few fellow developers who have a good grasp of what agile actually is because very few of them have ever taken formal training in agile. The meaning of agile has been bastardized and misunderstood to the point that it doesn’t really mean anything to the vast majority of people who claim to use it. Many developers have only learned agile principals from the companies they worked for and only have a corrupted perspective of what agile is. I really dislike companies who have project managers with little to no experience, trying to direct teams of engineers who are actually far more qualified to run the project. It’s very frustrating. It’s like having a 15 year old with a learners permit telling automotive designers how to drive.

    Hi, not sure where to put this, but I did just get my PSD1 yesterday. It took about 12 hours of studying (pulling an all nighter). That test was more about Agile Software Development concepts more than Scrum, but it did have plenty of Scrum questions, many of which were pulled directly from the PSM1 and PSPO1 exams. If you want to do the PSD1, it would really help to get PSM done first. That said, I put together a big study guide of my own with topics that were on the test. Topics include: Automated testing, Test doubles, Unit testing, Test Driven Development (TDD), Behavior Driven Development (BDD), Pair Programming, Code Quality Metrics, SOLID principles, Code Coverage, Emergent Architecture, Last Responsible Moment (LRM), Application Arcitecture and Non-functional Requirements, YAGNI/KISS, Static Analysis, Black-box/White-box testing, Architecture spikes, Efferent/Afferent Coupling, Technical/Strategic debt, and Domain Driven Design (DDD). There was also a high concentration on DevOps concepts like Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), and the 3 ways of DevOps (which line up surprisingly well to Scrum Events). In all cases, the questions need to be looked through the lens of Scrum and handling many scenarios with Scrum Theory in mind. For whoever sees this, and @agilecoach if you ever want to make a video about this, hope it helps.

    There are multiple reasons, though the organizations trying to use Scrum are often ultimate blame. Regardless hate comes drom when when they have trouble understanding that their personal process preference is contradictory(historical average mathematically guarantees only a 50% success rate), or when their vision of Scrum requires rejecting the empirical reality of the organization to make it easy to police, the self-imposed self-limitations "not my reaponsibility" and learned helplessness towards contributing as a fellow team member, the preference to ignore or handoff technical interruptions to the rest of the team, being unable to comprehend that honest estimates are two-dimensional(a bell curve) not zero-dimensional(a point), retrospectives primarily being about how can we make Scrum work rather than how can we better deliver value, not understanding that feedback (unplanned scope) is an asset not a liability and that project projections require historical feedback, that pair programming and working ae a team is a defining part of agility not going round robin assigning jira ticket owners to individual contributors, the "continuous cycle of non-improvement"... when the process is the impediment, which is what happens in Scrum, then developers hate Scrum.

    Something that I'm looking at now since I am PSM / PSPO, I want a deeper knowledge to be a PSD as well, but as I'm learning, the content on the PSD exam actually covers lots of concepts that are NOT on the Scrum Guide 2020. There will be questions on CI/CD, Testing techniques, things like the benefits of Refactoring, and beyond. It's quite a bit. If you have any experience on this at all and have any tips for how one might pass the PSD1, that would be amazing. but I think that the formula for 'read the scrum guide 2020, then do the open test 100% multiple times, that might not cover the test as well as it did for PSM and PSPO.

  • @landonrivers
    @landonrivers 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    From my CSPO course, the teacher brought up an anecdote spoken by one of the developers on a team, but it's something that could EASILY be applied to leadership / management. "They are treating us like mushrooms. Mushrooms are kept in the dark, and fed a bunch of manure." This is not just something the devs feel from unclear goals and PBIs, but something that stakeholders and leadership might feel as well if the teams are only directed to 'just get it done' and push it out as soon as possible.

    I did it! PSPO1 done. Another piece of advice - they sometimes pull questions from the PSM1 open assessment and the PSM1 TEST questions as well! I got a higher score, and passed first try. This is a great way to prep. REMEMBER. THIS IS PURE SCRUM. - PURE - SCRUM - . If they mention titles for team members, if they mention specific methods for calculation and forecasting, it is NOT the right answer.

    I am here once again to thank you. I just got my PSM-I tonight after following your video. I had done a big study session of the scrum guide, and had just gotten my CSM and CSPO so the knowledge was fresh, but the trick of taking the practice test multiple times really helped. The test was very challenging though, it's all answers based on the scrum guide, but there are some situations presented where it felt like negotiating for the lesser of 4 evils. Some questions were so easy though, I ended up having 20 minutes left at the end. Passed with an 88.8%, first try. PHEW!

    IMHO the first task of a Scrum Master is to find out how agile the mindset of the managers (I hhate the word manager) is.nThey really need to enable the team to become agile to work work with Scrum. And as a Scrum Master I first need to show the people in my team, that they can trust me, that I am their buddy and that I am there to help und support them. Therefore I need to proof the team that I am authentic by showing that I know what I talk about and I need to invite them starting new thigs, step by step. Rome was also not build in one day 🙂 Leading by example shows the people that it worksd and that this is cool (I love the word cool when doing serious work). And when my colleagues trist me, I can trust them, because we have build a relationship. When the company wants me to work in three projects (money makes the worl go around | The movie Cabaret with Lisa Minelli), than I leave them "alone", which means, that I can skip a daily. But hwen there is the need, that I am there, the newer customers has less rights than my senior team. If I may atruclate it this way.

    I guess you need to have right attitude to it and for me SCRUM is about protecting focus. Just it. I am from data realm and tell me this. Waterfalls are much worse alternative

    Agile transformation is to remove power from the Management. It usually goes well until you try to do exactly that.

    Great video. You mentioned that devlopers also hate attending all of the SCRUM rituals, I thought that may be #1. On another topic, do you have any videos about good squad compositions? Particularly with web development teams... our company seems to have like 1 BE, 1 FE, 1 Tester, 1 Designer, 1 Copywriter, 1 Content person and it seems everyone has a completely different role and work is siloed within the squad. In your experience, is there a more productive mix, like 2 BE, 2FE, 1 Tester, and the Designers/Copywriters/Content are potentially in another squad or just outside scrum and in supportive roles?

      Thanks for watching. The scrum events are indeed hated but these are only symptoms of the real problem.. For squad compositions, I recommend watching these video: th-cam.com/video/ung9OVRMJd0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/kUYnVgf4mo0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/BASg97WzezU/w-d-xo.html
