    I would also look into a Case Ih or DMI 527 or 530/530B or 530C Model (CIH bought DMI in the early 2000’s) Disc Ripper. Those Disc Rippers have a X Gang Disc Blade setup that does Twice the Discing and 2 Rows of Shanks, Lead Shanks and then a Set of Main Shanks, and then a Set of Disc Leveler Blades. Just something to consider. When it comes time to Upgrade Disc Harrows, I would look Real Hard at the Sunflower Series 1433/1434, those first 2 are a similar Design and these last 2 Models are a similar Design 1435/1436 Models. Krause 7300, 8200/8300 Models are a Great Design. Also I would look at a Great Plains Model as well, Similar Offset Disc Design. Those 3 Brands have a Offset Disc Harrow Design that helps Eliminate that need for a Middle Shank to Level the Ridging Problem of Most CIH & JD Disc Harrows.

    I would really look hard into a Soil Finisher instead of a Field Cultivator, or at least have your First Pass be a Soil Finisher before you run a Field Cultivator Pass. Especially with being Organic and just having a Extra Set of Disc Blades that are Cutting Up those Alfalfa/Clover/Hay Roots.

    Just ran a weed zapper over our soybeans. Not sure if you have one available in your area but those broadleaves and volunteer corn are perfect size to get smoked by it. Maybe cheaper than running a handcrew through? Beans look nice dude best of luck!

I am also an organic farmer. you do a good job! how is the infrastructure over there for organic farmers? is it easy to sell your organic soyabeans and other organic products? what is the price for 1.000kg soyabeans from your farm? Do you have many organic certification companies in the usa? how many acres of farmland you need in the usa to make a living for a family of 6 people? i am so interested in organic farming in the us

    Hi Addon, I see you're not running the Buffalo cultivator in your videos here lately, not enough rows to cover on each pass for the unit you have? Reason being, I making ready to transition to organic row crops, I thought Buffalo was the Cadillac cultivator? However these old JD versions are a lot less money and more readily available. Where do you purchase the ridging wings if the JD cultivator is the one you'd recommend for corn and beans. Thanks!!

    • @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303
      @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are right! I do still believe that Buffalos are the best but we did go to this John Deere because it was the only 16 row cultivator we could find. One day I’m hoping to get a 16 row buffalo too! I still have an 8 row buffalo I use but with shortening weather windows we are find that getting across the acres quickly is important

    • @rogerlamphier9332
      @rogerlamphier9332 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Addon, thanks for the informative response, bro!! We hadn't given up on Buffalo but we only have a six (6) row unit. However we're only farming 140 acres though here in West, TN. In fact, we're the only organic farmer within our county!! I love your videos and have learned a lot from you, in showing all the details (measurements, field videos etc.) Keep up the GREAT work!! @@struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303

      Our litter is a raw product. There are barns and a compost facilities about 20 miles from us. We haven’t had any experience with using pelletized products yet but would we may look at that in the future!

      @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes a herbicide pass would be cheaper, but since we are organic we do not even consider that as an option. We also so that although we do more tillage our organic practice we’ll make up for not putting all the harmful chemicals into the soil.

    Hi! Thanks for the great video. What seeding rate did you use for the rye, wheat, and peas in the fall? Did you broadcast or drill them? How many weeks before planting organic beans would you recommend dishing the rye? I want to cultivate and rotary hoe before planting beans, and I’m curious about trash plugging the hoe. Thanks very much!

    That accurate spacing will serve you well. With all of your preplant cultivation, you may want to stick with those rubber wheels. I ran one rubber, and one spiked. Pulled the spike, and works just fine.

    Thanks for sharing. It’s been frustrating up in my township as well. My cultivation windows between little showers have been down to the hour multiple times. There has been no rest to let the weeds die and the crops grow! Despite that the crops look ok just a lot more grass in the row than I’m used to. Have fun out there!

    looking at doing something like this for sweet corn but tillage destroys soil and mycorrhizal fungi so kinda defeats the purpose of the cover crop

    • @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303
      @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, tillage’s can kill but some of the mycorrhizal fungi. But with an organic option you pretty much have to do tillage to manage weeds and residue. The cover crops helps with some of the impact it has in the soil.

    • @locybapsi174
      @locybapsi174 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're not farming fungi or mycorrhizae but plant crops. Tillage helps, in most cases, increases yield, and with cover crops and residue incorporation doesn't decrease soil organic matter, but can rather help increase it.

  • @samwerlein3639
    @samwerlein3639 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you find this tillage regiment (flail-chisel-disc-cult) to be just as effective as power tilling on sod/hay? Why not just use the power tiller?

    • @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303
      @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We still have to use the flail chopper before we can tiller so it doesn’t really save us any pass through the field. We are finding that the disc chisel is about as affective and it is faster and more fuel efficient.

    • @nellsonstout7001
      @nellsonstout7001 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Aden, this field looks amazing. I was just curious whether this Buffalo 4630 with the standard side shields (open top) could be used for the 1st pass as well. Or do you absolutely need a shield that completely covers the young corn for the 1st pass. Thank you

    • @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303
      @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that you could go slow with the open top shields and be just fine. I would definitely make sure you take off your ridging wings.

  • @nafolo2003
    @nafolo2003 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Aden, Great videos. I was just wondering whether you're using a guidance system with your Buffalo 6 row cultivator. How do you set the shield when your corn is about to canopy? or do you remove the shield? How would you compare Buffalo to Hiniker?

    • @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303
      @struvefamilyfarmsorganics7303 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am currently not using a guidance system. I most the time I take the shields off or raise them all the way up. The biggest difference between the Buffalo and hiniker is the Buffalo had cut-away discs.
