Ferodo Racing Brake Pads, the Competitive Advantage You're Missing
Is there a database somewhere for C6 Corvette wheel fitment on these kits for popular wheels? Maybe on corvetteforum?
I had this kit for my E46 M3 tracktoy In Dubai. Did fantastic lap after lap at very high ambient temp and multiple High speed stops from 220-230 km/h down the straight on the Dubai Autodrome….
Thanks for the info, but unfortunately the Competition brake kit for my car (ND Miata) has been unavailable/discontinued. Just a friendly shout that there is demand for this kit, but I can't buy what isn't available. Hopefully some consideration is given to offering it for sale again in the future!
Can it be done by size
did you try both side compatible inside rips too?
is it same heatshield like BMW used on his M4 DTM racing cars?
What is the smallest sized caliper that you produce?
I can't believe they're not monoblocks at this price point! Looks like the RSR caliper is...
Do you all rebuild brembo calipers or just AP racing?
Only AP Racing...sorry!
Hi, there can I use the quick spring clip with the pad tension kit?
No. You have to use one or the other. Both will not work together. Thanks for watching!
I wish we had a engineer from AP doing this rather than this outdated mumblinging double talk.
Just purchased mine for my 5th gen camaro… can’t wait to install them and trying them at the track!! 🔥🔥
I'd love to buy this brake set but you don't make it for my vehicle. Any plans to make a set for the Kia Stinger/Genesis G70?
Thanks for the video! What worries me is the inner barrel diameter. I want to go from 19" to 18" and when I tested some 18" wheels the caliper scratched the inside. I wonder if the diameter of the inner barrel varies between different wheels of the same diameter. What is you experience on this?
Saving some $$ for my 5th gen camaro!!!
🎉
Its funny how mustang owners upgrade to corvette brakes. Corvette owners upgrade to AP brakes. If AP calipers and rotors came stock on a car, people would find the need to switch them out with something else. Nothing stock is ever good enough.
Silly question from a newbie here, but if I am replacing the 718 GT4 OEM caliper for theses, do you still need that “spacing” bracket that I saw other folks put on before the caliper itself? The oem rotors are 380mm just as the two piece design ypounsell
Yes, you would need caliper adapters. The discs in our AP Racing system are 394mm, which are larger than the stock 380mm fronts. In the back, our the bolt spacing to attach the rear calipers is different from the stock calipers, and you would therefore need a caliper adapter bracket in the rear as well.
Thanks for the info! For those of us coming from OEM 6 pot front calipers, the more info the better. I've got the BMW M2 Competition with stock big brakes, and I'm looking to find smaller calipers with the same pot number. I want to size down to 18 inch wheels but these calipers are way too big to go below 19 inch wheels. I think my best option is to just call and talk to an expert like yourself. 😊
Yes, our complete system for the M2 Competition fits inside 18" wheels, which is why many of the track rats prefer our setup. It also saves over 35 lbs. of unsprung weight vs. the stock brakes!
Would these brakes work with daily driving too. I know most people don't buy stuff like this for daily driving, but see I only have 1 car and i'd like to track it at a drag strip and still go to work everyday. I mean how often am i maintaining these brakes?
Yes, many of our clients drive their cars on the road everyday. You can use a milder brake pad, like the Ferodo DS2500, and they will function great for daily driving.
If I'm using a small wheel spacer, say 3mm, does that spacer need to be between the template and the wheel for accurate measurements?
Yes, you would need to take the wheel spacer into account when measuring wheel spoke clearance with the template.
Cost for calibers and rotors and can I adapt to a c4 corvette front suspension
It is not easy at all to change pads, especially if going from worn pads to new ones because of the difference in thickness. Pushing the pistons in has to be done manually and they have a long way to go. I know they say use a block of wood, but no block of wood is strong enough when the pads are down to 8mm. You have to use the old brake pads and leverage against the caliper body. If that's not the case, I would like to see a video using a different technique.
I really wish someone can make a database to see what’s interchangeable. It would be great info
Is the wider caliper not also stiffer?
Appreciate the video and information, but we also need AP racing brake fluid explanation and why it might still be a better choice than other brands.
Bought mine anti rattle kit from you a couple years ago, still working great, and you even sent to Porto Portugal.
Thanks for your detailed video! Very educational!!👍
Making templates to check my rotor fitment was very important. The larger of the two choices I was offered only fit my forged rims but not the OEM rims. So I went with the smaller (still a lot bigger than OEM) rotor kit for my AP Racing Radical II BBK. This brings back a lot of memories! This is a MUST DO!
awesome info
We love these kits and appreciate the support from the team.
I have front and rear AP disks, rear calipers, but no one will sell me new front calipers... I've sent in so many pictures etc etc , please 🙏 help. Thanks
So I understand that accessing the pads on these calipers is easy without removing the caliper. What about retracting the pistons? What do you recommend for retracing them while the caliper and rotor are mounted on the car?
On my car, I typically use a soft block of wood (typical pine) wrapped in a rag to lever the pistons back into their bores. Many people use an old brake pad to lever the pistons, but that is a bad idea. What you don't want to do is chew up the ends of the pistons. Metal-to-metal contact can nick or gouge the pistons. Then when they get pushed back into the caliper, they cut the piston seals and create a brake fluid leak. Also, doing that with a pad you intend to use in the future is a terrible idea. It's very easy to create cracks in the pad material itself, which can cause the material to separate from the backing plate...not good! Something slightly softer wrapped in a rag will provide enough force to lever, while not chewing up your pistons. - Jeff
Looks like there are only 6 clips per 12 bolts?
Can the ap racing iron rotors be resurfaced aka turned at a machine shop ?
No they cannot, but we have never seen any need to have them turned. Since the vast majority of our clients are tracking their car, they typically crack their discs before they ever reach a state in which they would need to be turned.
Hi, could elaborate a bit further on why not? Thanks in advance.
I hear AP Racing is among the very best of the best. Can I use your rear BMW M3 (f80) brake kit for my x3?
Do they squeal like the porsche ceramic brakes?
What talk us about AP RACING R1 brake fluid ?. My specs Japanese car show DOT 3 brake fluid.
I just installed the 9668 kit on my car and I want know what is the recommended torque spec for the bridge caliper bolts? “Just snug” isn’t going to cut it for me Besides soft wood with rag to retract the caliper pistons anything specific like tool out there that would work best?
Thank you for your support Dominic! The torque spec is 11 ft. lbs (13 Newton-Meters). If you don't want to use tools, your best bet with the caliper bridge bolts is to literally snug them up with your pinky finger. There isn't really any load on those bolts, and they are really there as a retention feature for the pads. Thank you very much again for purchasing our product, and don't ever hesitate to reach out to our team if you have other questions.
Hi, ive got the J-hook rotors with 6 piston AP racing calipers on my E92 M3. How much are the rotors supposed to "float". Because its making some serious clunking noise and sometimes i get some serious vibration from the front when the rotors and pads are cold. Is it possible to buy new mounting screws so that the rotor doesnt float or move in the bell because i really dont need floating rotors.
I'd suggest sending an email to support@ essex parts dot com. Our team can help you trouble-shoot your issue. When attached properly the discs shouldn't make any clunking noise or vibration. What you may be hearing is the pad moving slightly in the caliper. This is especially common when going from forward to reverse and back, as the pad shifts from one end of the caliper to the other and hits the abutment plate with a clunk. That is completely normal with any racing caliper, as they are designed to accommodate a range of pads that can vary slightly in size specification.

AP Racing Better Brembo
Just ordered the kit my my GT3RS.. super stoked.
Awesome! Thanks so much for your support and we hope they serve you well for years to come.
question please help! I bought my car with these brakes already installed (2016 bow m4 with AP Racing pro 5000 R) and in my state the car needs to pass inspection to be able to get tags and tittle. it failed inspection because of the brake because they could find what was the discard thickness on the rotors. I went of their website and it doesn't say anywhere. do you happen to know this info? the "discard thickness" is the thickness at which the rotor should be replaced. if you can help I would really appreciate it!
These are racing parts, and as such AP Racing does not have a published discard spec. Most of our clients crack the discs on the track long before they run them thin. We have had customers run them long enough to completely wear the J Hook slots off the face of the disc without any problems. Sorry we don't have any formal spec for this issue. If you need help talking with someone about this, please contact our team at support at essex parts dot com. Thank you very much for your support of our product!
wow very clear and thorough thank you, i had mine radical for some time but never knew so well till now
How will the anodised calipers hold up to road salt, especially around the contact points between steel and aluminium where galvanic corrosion can occur.
Anodized calipers are not ideal for road salt. We have two better options: The first are the painted calipers in our AP Racing by Essex Road Radi-CAL Brake Kits: www.essexparts.com/big-brake-kits/ap-racing-road-brake-kits-by-essex The second would be our new Electroless Nickel Plated calipers in our AP Racing by Essex Radi-CAL Competition Brake Kits. Either would be a superior choice to anodized if you are running in salty conditions. Thanks!
We now have our ENP (Electroless Nickel Plated) version of the Pro5000R calipers which are a superior choice for inclement weather vs. anodized. The finish is more durable and will hold up better long-term to just about every type of contaminant. www.essexparts.com/news-blog/new-electroless-nickel-plated-enp-finish-for-pro5000r-radicals
