I recommend checking out okami-den it was the sequel/spin off on the ds it sets up where the new sequel is likely to go with how it ends

I kinda hope they continue the story from when they where heading toward the celestial plain i still want to know what happens next and i think we will see issue again

I want Oki back. He was my favorite character and i dug how vergil like he is with his icicle attack and ice dopplegangers. Side note: he and the Oina tribe as a whole were absent in okamiden and i was hopping to see Chibi maybe chasing around his potential teacher/father like figure he'd see as while Oki wouldn't be having any of it like a gag of sorts. sometimes the jokes write themselves.

I just finished my 4th(?) run of the game, second time getting all the Stray Beads. The Devil Gate Trials are more tedious than anything and can be easily cheesed with Exorcism Scrolls. Also, great video! Super excited for the sequel! Its announcement made me cry. I had forgotten about the Lunar Tribe betrayal and that it’s a loose end that was never tied (I’ve never played Okamiden so forgive me if it’s addressed there). It feels like Kamiya-san had an idea for a sequel since day one and I’m very glad he’ll have the chance to explore it.

After *the* announcement, I started a new playthrough of Okami on my Switch. Hyped for the sequel, even though it will be years until. But I also hope they take their time to make it the best it can be!

the final battle in Okami showed that Amatarasu and Shiranui are, indeed, the same wolf. Shiranui's appearance is essentially what Amatarasu at peak power looks like. The reason she looks the way she does throughout most of the game is because she's diminished, not as strong as she once was. The Stone wolf form was her in a recovery state, healing sorta like how Link in Breath of the wild had to lay in that healing chamber for 100 years only to wake up weakened and lacking in memory. A similar thing could be said of Amatarasu and Shiranui.

the only stuff I would want to see in the past touched upon is why and how Shiranui and Ishaku went forward in time to help Amaterasu and Oki against Lekchu and Nekchu. Aside from Kaguya, it's one of the only plot points that's left completely unexplained. We don't know what motivated them to do so, and while I assume Ishaku used his sword to open the Spirit Gate to go forward in time the same way Issun did to go backwards, the way him and Shiranui go back is just by slicing a rip through space and time in front of them and then walking through it.

we both played this game around the same time at similar ages, that's insane considering how niche it was back in 07/08.

It was way cheap. Ever since the announcement of the sequel the price for the u.s. PS4 version specifically has shot up to a ridiculous amount. I got lucky and just grabbed it last night for about $48.

One thing about Ammy: Shiranui IS AMMY/AMATERASU, only the people of Kamiki Village called her Shiranui but in reality Shiranui IS Ammy herself; the proof of this is when Ammy went to Issun's village and talked to the chief, who was in fact the first celestial envoy during Ammy visit before her death and that village chief called wolfy here Ammy and NOT Shiranui.

With the info of a new game in the works, i hope you look into a lot of japanese folktales/history! That way you might not be confused by these "wierd" story parts anymore :D Even the story of the moon princess with her bamboo rocket is rooted in a very popular japanese fairytale. (which is also the inspiration of a pokemon) That way your love for okami can get even deeper, when you know stuff like who the name of himeko is based on or what a facinating story the waterdragon people and the kind hearted fisherman are part of. And even the "aliens" of the past might be more than otherworldly looking creatures. This whole game is such a loveletter to a ton of traditionally japanese things. I will say to anyone: it is worth to check out the sources if you really loved the game! Things will make more sense! :D (Suprisingly, even things like a sentient slip of paper or a wayblocking blockhead are part of that history/fairytale mix)

The fossils in gen 8 are both funny and interesting because it’s a hilarious jab at actual history where archaeologists in early Britain mashed bones together as wrong animals. Hence why the fossils are simple mashups

Great video. So far all videos I've seen on this (which are much longer than 15 min) made it sound like this HAD TO be done with the Mantis God deck. But now I am inspired by the Adder.

The easiest way to get this is choose the Mantis God Deck and re-roll at the start until you get the Dire Wolf and Field Mice cards at the trapper (the very first interaction where you have two pelts) if you don’t simply quit and reload and they will reset with new options. Once you have the above cards combine the Dire Wolf and Mantis God so you have a 5 strike card, next buff the god to 5 hits (you need it to be at least 5 hits to kill the grizzlies) you also want to prioritize items namely the scissors and clock and sacrifice any cards when possible. Having the Mantis and Dire wolf combine allows you to strike the wall of bears once to kill the card then again to deal damage. If by chance you don’t like that method go with Mantis and combine it with the Death Adder and a Grizzly or Wolf or any 5 strike card. Position the mantis and that card next to each other during the wall of bears phase to win. I also had Goober paint my Mantis God twice (pure luck) so I had three, 30 hit point strike, 5 life Mantis gods at 1 blood. I barely survived the flying attack totem battles if not for the scissors and or other items. You have to use items and plan to get more during battles (via pack rat card) to make it or just get lucky. The game will throw a flying attach bifurcated totem battle your way if you abuse your power cards so you’re only goal is a use Fair Hand and get a magpie or have a magnifying glass item to pick your power card on the first few turns
