Sashiko and Reusable Wraps
มุมมอง 197หลายเดือนก่อน
Hello and welcome back to my home. Our walk this week was in Decoy Country Park, where we rediscovered the simple joy of a good puddle, and Mr and I were reminded to slow down and just experience the moment. I tried my hand at making reusable beeswax food wraps, following the expert tuition of Nancy Birtwhistle, and had my first go at Sashiko using a new book: Colourful Sashiko from @searchpres...

Hello and welcome back! This week is definitely all about autumn, as I plunge head-first into @debbieshore new book: Half Yard Autumn collection, from Searchpress. I tried my hand at her fabric pumpkins, and have an update on the pyjamas by @SewOverIt - they're almost complete! In toddler-friendly crafts this week, Robin and I tried decoupage for the first time and it was so much fun, although ...
Gnoming About
มุมมอง 200หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome to EP 3 of my Devon Diary, In the past week or so I've been pottering about doing homey things. There's a completed gnome from @imaginedlandscapes as part of the launch of her fab book, which I share. I prove it is possible to burn soup but somehow manage a passable sweet potato and chilli number. Hemming my makeshift curtains is a triumph - go me! And granny squares abound!
Starting a Kitchen Garden // Gemma's Devon Diary

Hello and welcome to this week's video. This time I share the start of my kitchen garden, my banana bread in the battle against waste, how to make play dough and more! I've made a start on the next stage of our kitchen garden this week, by planting Spring Cabbages and creating a herb planter where, hopefully, I'll make those £1.50 living herbs from the supermarket really work for me!

Hello and welcome to my channel, where I share home life in Devon, with recipes, making, and creating, with some exploring thrown in. This episode features three jobs for autumn: sorting out all our woollens, prepping my autumn yarn basket, sharing pumpkin patterns, and batch cooking and dump bags. Recipes for mine came from the blog of Taming Twins, which I highly recommend.

HI! First time seeing your podcast. LOVE IT! I'm a WIPS warrior. Noooo clue how many I have. But there is a plan in the near future to pull all those project bags together and take a look. LOL!
19 plus 2?
Maybe 20-25 Wips.
My goodness id be so overwhelmed with that many wips 😂
Just as well they're mine then 😉
Thank you for sharing. 😊
My pleasure 😊
I have carried a WIP list in the 30's for YEARS! Exact amount unknown because my stuff has been in storage for the past year. On the plus side - I finished everything I kept out to "tide me over" as well as several new projects. I have culled this list several times and everything on it I definitely want to finish. Just got my own place again and my stuff from storage and at least 60% of it is craft supplies!
Sounds like a good ratio of craft to stuff to me! xx
5
That's 50, right? xx
New subscriber here :) you've inspired me to look through all my WIPs and frog those who aren´t fun anymore!! Hope you'll feel better soon <3
Release the needles to cast on ALL the things! xx
I have 0 WIP's I never start a project ever until I finish what I am working on,,, is this unusual!!!
I think you've a few friends here in the comments but the majority of folk do seem to have more than one. It's all down to personal preference and that's what I love about this! x
Hello from Swansea, Illinois. This is my first time seeing your podcast and I subscribed to it. Looks like you have about 75 WIP’s ❤❤❤
A fair guess! If you add WiPs in waiting I'm probably up there! How funny that there's a Swansea in Illinois. I always find it fascinating to hear shared place names. x
We could be WIP sisters! Lol My son has added "NOT ANOTHER ONE" to his vocabulary. 😂 I love to hoard yarn cause who can have enough? 😊
WiP Sisters! Love it. Honestly this comments section would be hilarious to anyone not sure what we're talking about haha. It's not a hoard...it's natural insulation and just good economics given the cost of living and fuel. x
@@TheMidnightDyery You are so right!!! 🥰
I think you have 32 projects in waiting.
So many fun projects! I think you should frog the sibling pullover and cast on in a larger size, it’s super cute ❤
It IS isn't it? I think I've landed on frogging it and re-casting it on. I'll need more yarn of course but as it's striped I reckon I can get away with it. Pleased you've had fun here x
25
Lol! I have more WIPS than you do. I don't do intentional gift knitting or crochet. When I finish a project, if someone wants it, they most likely can have it. My knitting and crochet is a hobby. Therefore it is the one place I can be irresponsible on timelines. I've already brought the yarn, so what's the difference between it sitting in the cake/skein than started. Lolol! I got more ideas of projects I want to do from you. Loved your vid! Thanks!!
Weirdly enough, when I started out in 2024 I made a video called "my resolution free year" and it was actively avoiding goals and pressure. One of the things I wanted to cast aside was goals to knit gifts. Didn't want the pressure. Ironically I've made and finished more gifts this year than ever before. Aren't we odd creatures, humans? So glad you loved the video and have taken some inspiration. I'm SO tempted to cast on more new things.
34!

Just had to pause the video to come and say I am also an angel mummy of a little girl. Sending lots of love ❤️ You tube recommended you to me and I am glad as I was looking for more Uk accounts to follow so I look forward to watching your vlogs. Think I have about 8 WIPs and am predicting 32 for you 😅
Thank you so much for sharing your precious daughter with me. What is her name? Absolutely no obligation to reply of course. That was a pretty good guess! Very pleased to have you here xx
@themidnightdyery her name was Connie ❤️ I thought I did well until the “a few hours later” 😂
haha you had! Connie is a beautiful name. x
Hi Gemma. I found your podcast for the first time today. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope your cold comes good soon. It was great to see what you have on the go at the moment. There are some really inspiring patterns there. Looks like my wip pile may just grow with some new cast ons.lol I am in Victoria Australia.
Hey Kim! So pleased to have you here. I'm much better now, thank you, and glad that I've inspired you to cast on more things hehe. x
I am finishing up a granny square blanket, I have a knitted blanket that is about two thirds done, but since it is a time consuming project, I do not expect to be done till next winter. One hot bottle cover , that will be done by christmas and one lace stole. Makes it four wips with two of them being done reasonably soon for me.
Thanks for sharing! I love hearing what other folk are making. Typically I don't count blankets as WIPS but in my lurgified state I included them this time - precisely for the reason you mentioned...they're long-term projects x
Love it❤ forget the haters we are like we are real crafters😂🎉❤😊
haha all experiences and journeys are valid. But multi-wips unite! x
8 actively knitting on and 55 hibernating.
only sweaters in that count above. no shawls (don't do shawls anymore). 4 or 5 socks in progress too.
Those 55 will be nice and cosy ready to wake up when you're ready. I think you're the first person I've met to have more than me!
So pleased you showed up in my feed, I loved hearing about your WIPs, it made me more excited to cast on more things. I’m currently in a bit of a test knit spiral so I’ve been deadline knitting this past year but I am thinking I’ll take a bit of a more relaxed approach next year to get some family making done ❤
I'm so glad you've enjoyed your visit. I chose to have a resolution free year this year and it's been awesome. One of my stipulations was not to commit to gift-knitting etc to avoid the pressure and ironically I've knit more gifts than ever. I hope you have fun casting on all the things and you visit the channel again soon x
@ I’ll definitely be tuning in again, new subscriber here 😁👋

Thanks for sharing your WIPs and your process. I currently have three active WIPs, three that are hibernating but still on my radar and one UFO that is more than 20 years old! It’s a cabled cardigan I started for my son when he was about 2 - needless to say, it will definitely no longer fit! The thing is, I only have one sleeve and the bands to do so I feel I could finish fairly quickly. Maybe it could be for a grandchild one day…
Some of my friends have little boxes or baskets of one-day knits. They have them on hand for friends children or perhaps as you say grandchildren. It would be a shame not to finish it but of course only you can decide. I frogged my oldest wip just before it turned 21. I wasn't allowing it to be a fully fledged adult aha!
Frog as you see fit. My OCD could not tolerate very many WIPs, but you do you. My only question is how would you handle picking up a WIP for that special child only to realize it will be way too small? Would it be better to just frog now then be inspired anew at a later date for an item for that special kiddo?
If it's already too small, I'd frog it and leave it. At the moment I'm still in that schroedinger's cat situation but with wip fits haha x

Hi Gemma, this is the first time I have come across you on TH-cam and I really enjoyed seeing your impressive collection pf WIPs. I love some of your patterns and yarns and am going to check them out. I usually have about 5 items on the go at any one time. While I was watching you I knitted the last square on Laura Penrose's Sweetshop Blanket. I'm very excited to have finished it - a Christmas present for my daughter. It's been on the go for about a year now. Just the trillions of ends to sew in now! Best wishes.
Oh what a wonderful gift! I love the Sweetshop blanket - it's been on my to make list since she first started sharing it but I have commitment issues when it comes to choosing the yarns - I worry I'll get them wrong. I've dyed myself an advent this year so perhaps I'll use that for it. Good luck with the end sewing in and thank you for spending time with me x
I am sure your breathing issues are not the merino, but something in it, like residues of the cleaning stuff, or leftover of fine vegetation dust, still in the wool. Otherwise you would have had the same issues with other yarns cont Merino of yours. Having issues myself, however cleaning all sorts of raw fleeces, it is always what may be left in it. Never a clean fleece. And factory processed fleece/ yarn is too not always clean clean. Often they use chemicals for the breakdown of vegetation matter. That yarn may have residues left of that. If you need tips on how to wash it without felting let me know😊 Good luck
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to write all this - it's fascinating and really thoughtful of you. It's Mohair that is affecting me, not merino, and only since I had covid. I'm fine with all non-floofy yarns thank goodness or life would be very miserable indeed! You're right though it's amazing how not clean clean yarn is! I remember from preparing undyed yarn for dyeing although it did largely depend on the fibre content. Fascinating stuff! xx

Your video just popped up on my For You section! So glad it did! I am saying 45 WIPS!!!
Ah welcome!! So glad you're enjoying your time here - hope you'll join me again x
I enjoyed every minute of this episode! You are my kind of maker.
Thank you so much!! x
17 wips is my guess
You might be in for a shock...
Huge WYS yarn fan.
It's awesome isn't it! Are you in the crafters hub group on FB? They do a WYS mystery box giveaway every month and there's regularly sweater quantities of yarn in the prize box x
I have I think a dozen or so wips, but my to make list is huge. I have 6 kids and study so I have too many commitments outside of my craft to commit to more.I have a pair of mits for my 12 yo daughter I am considering frogging a pair of socks where I have made a mistake with my cables I have no idea how to fix 2 other pair of socks, one for me and one for my 7yo, a jumper for my 19yo daughter a shawl for me and a cardigan for me. I also have four crochet blankets on the go so 11
Wow you are super busy! Hope the studies are going well and you get a break to enjoy the festive season with your lovely family x
I love Jon @EasyKnits yarn for socks … great colours.
I've dragon hoarded my one skein of Jon's! Maybe 2025 is the year I finally knit it. x
Ive got a few more wips than I would like to admit. Currently I'm working on a Spark Cardi by Andrea Mowry. Was knitting on it, fell asleap, and woke to your vlog😂. New subscriber here now. Do you fall asleap with vlogs on ever?
I do! I actually put on Knitting Traditions to fall asleep to if I'm tossing or turning. Not because she's dull - she's not and I love her episodes and projects - but because her voice is so soft and soothing. Very pleased that autoplay plonked me on your screen. I'm not familiar with the Spark Cardi. I mustn't look in case I accidentally cast it on ahah! Hope you didn't drop any stitches in your snooze x
Maybe twenty
New subscriber here!! I just loved this video, made me happy to see someone with tons of wips like me. I currently have 32! I love to cast on and I definitely love having a variety to choose from, sometimes you just need choices haha. I hope no one is rude because I really enjoyed your wip parade and hope you do it again sometime in the future. Hope you are feeling better now and I wish you luck on Christmas gift knitting. Looking forward to your vlogmas videos. 😊💖
Thank you so much for your lovely words. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - it was quite fun to make in the end so perhaps I will do one of these a year? I'm much better now thank you see you in the next one! x
@TheMidnightDyery That would be so fun to see how your wip pile changes every year! Glad you are feeling better!
I think you’ve broken the Guinness World Book of Records for knitting and crochet works in progress. 😂. You are going to be very, very busy. Loved the video.❤
That might have been when I had 50 - not sure I've found anyone else yet with quite that many. Well the lady who took over TYD from me possibly has but she refuses point blank to count 😂so glad you enjoyed it! x
I guessed 27. You just popped up on TH-cam for me. Your energy is amazing! So glad I found you! New subscriber here.
Thank you so much! Hopefully my energy will improve once I'm better 🤣🤣
I love Jude.
Can't say fairer than that!
I’m guessing that you have about 23 WIPs. I have 3 knitting projects and 2 crochet projects in progress right now. That’s after a concerted effort to reduce my previous set of projects which was in the neighborhood of 15.
I love it when the YT algorithm works!!! We moved to a (much smaller house) and I shoved all my knit WIPs in several large plastic containers. Maybe it's time to address them!
The algorithm seems to have brought a lot of happy folk my way this past fortnight and it's so lovely to get to know you! Good luck with your WIP containers. It's good fun to look at them all!
Frog and remake the Sibling Sweater. No comment on the other UFOs. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Thank YOU for taking the time to watch! x
Congratulations on hitting 1K 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you, Dear-heart! xxx
Gurl! You’re making me feel better about my pile. 😂 Great episode. I’m planning out next year, and I only working on my wips.
Good luck! Happy to make you feel better and so glad you enjoyed it! x
I just found your channel on you tube, so glad I did. I guess 35 WIPS in your pile 🤞☺. Now to continue watching to see if I was right!
You were awfully close - good guess! Hope you enjoyed your time with me and will come back soon :)
Another great podcast.. Thank you x
Thanks for popping by again! I was interrupted watching yours the other day by my small human so looking forward to finishing it off tonight xx
