One thing maybe not considered which I think is important. Alot of strong teams (Madrid are an exception funnily enough) in current football use a 4 man midfield box. This can be created in a number of ways but it seems the most frequent is a defender (often fullback) becoming a midfielder next to the lone pivot. Or a double pivot where one of which joins the 'number 10' and the defender reforms the double pivot. I guess 3rd most common is the fullback becoming a winger and the winger becoming a '2nd 10'. Once formed, rotations happen which is killer if you are already outnumbered but defending in a traditional 4231/433. In any event, how do you combat this box? Alot of teams have done this in many ways but it's actually something I think Xavi struggled with, which hurt more considering he himself used the box of course. Classic example was Villarreal where Pedraza went from left back to left winger, with their left winger (Baena maybe) coming inside as a 2nd 10. Often there was this question posed for our right winger and rightback. Does the rightback follow the winger inside so our single pivot isn't 2v1? Does our winger basically become a rightback so the Pedraza isn't free in such a dangerous area? Bigger questions then become, do we change to a double pivot so the rightback doesn't have to follow the winger inside. But using this current structure, there is a clear solution. You can see here our deep midfield (Casado and Pedri) have a 2v1 numerical superiority against a lone 10. One of which can easily move onto the 4th player regardless of which position they originally moved from

Flick seems to be prioritizing fitness. Getting the players resiliant, strong and fast. Keeping them injury free. The spanish players are already very technical, they need to be fit.

I feel a little relaxed because I know the tactical prowess of Hansi flick With Xavi he lacked the capacity to tactically tweak things while the game was in progress But with Hansi is different He has a lot of playing styles and a lot of flexibility

I don't think Flick will use 4-2-2-2 against big teams It was already exposed by Monaco offensive full backs

Flick is a tactician he approaches the game with the best tactics this 4222 is a better way to lure the smaller teams into a trap then win the ball back in thier half then try to score them...with a big team the approach will be different or improved upon

Since the start of the league games... I notice that the teams barcelona have faced have problems with their backline being exposed cos the high full back have problems of tracking back to help the defenders and this cause the full back to be tired and this give barcelona the opportunity to over load them especially in the second half.. The tired full backs will now sit deep not bumping forward like the first half and that space on the wings is now useless cos nobody can be running down the wings to and fro for 90+ min.. This system is excellent because it forces most dangerous wingers to defend deep helping the full backs and also if barcelona losses the ball in dangerous position the distance from the the full back to the wingers will be too long which barcelona can quickly exploit.. But no system is perfect at least the system on a scale of 10 I give it 8.5

0:00 yes and it was exploited behind Martin, cant remember the game now. He went to press high and left space behind him when the player simply headed the ball behind him. We know Inigo isnt fast enough so he couldnt close down space and it lead to a goal. They just have to be careful and not press that high, he was going after the player in to the opposition side of the field. 2:00 YES, this is EXACTLY what happened, though you use Balde in this scenario, but the game I talk about it was Martin in the LB position. I dont think the full backs should press that high.

I think hansi flick's idea is to out-score the opponent. It's like this, if you are capable of scoring four it doesn't matter to you if the opponents score two or three. The pressing is from the forward players the defense dont press so flick want the ball to be won before even the opponent get to out defense. So our defenders without the ball will stay in positions thats what i have seen so far

Barcelona have played against Real Madrid, Manchester City, Atletic Club Bilbao which have quality and strong attacking fullbacks and wingers under Hansi Flicks during pre season games and league game against Bilbao. Those games Flick was studying how to defend in the form of pressing high.

After the break we'll face Girona, Villarreal, Getafe and Monaco if I'm not mistaken. That's gonna be the true test for the players and the coach. If Barça wins those, then I'll truly start believing. If we lose, then I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a tough season.

Girona was very good on cutbacks and crosses last season. We don't want to see another defeat to Girona

Araujo is fast and physical which is necessary for playing high line. But at the same time he is not as good on the ball and had a bad attitude last season examples of both were seen in second leg against psg and few other games

The main objective of Flick is to create a lot of scoring opportunities which yields a lot of goals. Yes, bigger teams will exploit the space but they'll only succeed 3 or 4 out of 10 times, the rest 6 or 7, they'll be extremely vulnerable. Flick also relies on the backline's pace to nullify the counters. That's why I think Araujo will be extremely important for us. And Ter Stegen needs to summon his inner Neuer to cover blunt the counter attacks😅

Inigo is poor defensively against good players. He can body average players. But against world-class strikers like Mbappe, Osimhen and good wingers vini and co he doesn't stand even the slightest chance. His ball playing is fair though.

Those opened angles are a trap for the opponent', he prefers they go wide than passing through the middle as the players can recover from the lapses of the wing better than the middle, after all the goal post is in the middle. And when they are forced to attack from the wing, he can easily counter attack them

The wide areas is concern but if our Full back presses aswell then there is whole lot of space behind the defence if the ball passes that area ad that is risky

One thing that I have noticed and not many people are pointing out is that the CB aren't a pure stopper and a guyl that's better with the ball (Puyol-Marquez, Puyol-Piqué, Piqué-Mascherano, Araújo-Christensen..). Now Koundé, Cubarsi and Íñigo Martínez are great at short and long passes. Before, the opponents would now who to press and force a mistake, now that option isn't there, that makes the opponent hesitate a second and that's how Barça's CB can move the ball forward more freely, and even under more pressure they're good enough to not get nervous.
