The Outlaw Oracle - Flip-Through, First Impressions, a One-Card Pull, and Why I 100% Love This Deck
Here's my first look at The Outlaw Oracle deck that I absolutely love, a deck that I have wanted for a few months. It's one that I am so excited to add to my deck library, and it's even better in hand, in person. Full disclosure, I purchased this deck for $49.50 ($55-10% discount offered to email subscribers), plus tax and shipping.
Here are some links to Hillary and The Outlaw Oracle, so you can discover her creativity firsthand (these are not affiliate links, I just want you to be able to find her directly):
A product mentioned, but not shown, is The Honky Tonk Tarot Colorin' Book (can also be found on website below).

What I didn't explain well in the video is the Country Outlaw movement, which was a movement, even a genre or sub-genre of country music in the 1970s and 1980s. Some of the musicians and my favorites include Willie Nelson, Waylon Jenning, Merle Haggard, and Jessi Colter. The album that I mentioned, but couldn't remember the title of is Wanted! The Outlaws, originally released in 1976 and re-released in 1996.
The two photography tarot decks I mentioned were Mountain Dream Tarot (1975) (I mistakenly called it Mountain Home in the video) by Bea Nettles and Somnia Tarot (2021) by Nicolas Bruno.

    Hey Mim's 👋, Yes it has been a collective take stock about how we respond to shocking events, with our essential spark, root of primal fire, with our passion and vitality. So nice to see when someone finds a connection of themselves in the Earth suit. That it isn't all money, work and consumption. Our greatest resource is ourselves and how we nurish ourselves and others, including the actual Earth, is actually the foundation of like the dropping of the anchor ⚓️. That is what I came up with when I did the challenge, or rather part of the challenge 😂 Love how you are keeping yourself accountable, enjoy the journey. It doesn't have to be perfect.

    • @TarotwithMims
      @TarotwithMims 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Jo, you're so right, that pentacles is earth and all that it means, and yes dropping anchor into earth, roots, and grounding. It seems really obvious, but maybe because so many readings are about jobs and things that that is what comes to mind first. I appreciate you bringing the larger meaning to mind. I love that idea of a collective spark, that's the perfect way to describe wands. I have also been thinking about that "fire in the belly" phrase, how it can have many meanings beyond the traditional one of "a desire to succeed." Thank you for being here, watching, and commenting. ♥

I did a big Marie Kondo clean out a few years ago, and released a bunch of field guides, and while I still have quite a few, it's the only part of that clean out that I kind of regret, but there are plenty more field guides on used bookstore shelves. ;) That's so cool to hear part of the inspiration for your tarot deck. I do think yours is beautiful and love how you made the book to be like a field guide. I think it would be fun if you ever make a video about the whole project and talked about your experiences and reflections. I would be interested in that. The botanical deck would definitely be a helpful deck. Especially for people learning about botanicals or even kinda like a reference. I've been studying botanicals more in the last year and roaming my local area trying to find wild botanicals and try and learn about their many uses. I have a few botanical decks, it is not the one you have showed...yet. 😁

      Yes, it does seem to be really helpful, and a good general reference. That's cool that you're studying botanicals and also finding them wild locally! I am only starting to get into it, and this deck, for me, represented the beginning of that journey. That would be a cool video to watch, learning a little about your interest in botanicals and highlighting a deck or few. ;) Thanks for watching and commenting! :)

      @@TarotwithMims I will get into making videos sooner or later about the things I can find in the wild (in my area) for my practices. There's so much I just want to share with others. I had such a hard life and a lot of hard times and I know it can be difficult to learn certain things especially if it has anything to do with beliefs and it can't always be shown or there's no one that can teach what they know. For myself, if it wasn't for books, google and TH-cam...it would have made it even harder.

    I have one certain deck I've been practicing with for about 5 years now and I've actually used that one brand/title so much I've had to replace it 3 times. But it was the first deck I ever fell in love with. I carry a deck with me everyday, everywhere I go. But in all the years I've only had to replace that one. I love your video as well. It is nicely informative. 🥰

      @@TarotwithMims I am more than welcome to share. My favorite deck has been the Golden Art Nouveau Tarot Deck by Giulia F. Massaglia. It was my favorite deck for years. I have carried many decks with me but that's the deck I've replaced 3 times (the only one I've ever replaced.) I am carrying a different deck right now. When I bought my first RWS deck It was the Centennial Edition and I liked it for a little bit but found it very difficult to shuffle so I didn't use it a lot. Then I was determined to use it so I shuffled it intentionally trying to break it in. And now it's much easier to shuffle but I still hardly ever use it. Then I bought the classic yellow box RWS which I swear I would never get because I could never imagine myself using "that" artwork 😅 But if I'm going to use a Rider Waite Smith, that's the one I reach for almost 100% of the time now. As for clones I would say the one I use the most is my Lightseer's or Textured Tarot.

    • @TarotwithMims
      @TarotwithMims 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shanna, oh, getting to that spot when you've shuffled a deck enough that it's broken in is such a good feeling (even if it's a deck you don't care much about). I completely understand not connecting to any of the RWS decks, especially when the artwork doesn't speak to you. I'm so glad we have so many options for decks and artwork. We're in such an amazing time when decks have become so much more diverse, imaginative, and representative. I also use the Lightseer's and I've seen the Textured Tarot, and it looks like such a good deck. I have that on my wish list, for sure. Thanks so much for watching and commenting, I appreciate you so much! :)

    In the early 90s, I learned Tarot with the Golden Dawn deck and had a totally unrelated to that deck book that taught how to develop one's own numerology and elemental associations and combine them with whatever is visible on the card (a book I, unfortunately, don't know the title or author anymore....but maybe Tom Benjamin's book Tarot on earth goes a bit along those lines). I can read any "system" with that base, including the Thoth, but if I feel like studying, I can always just choose one layer and add that. Last fall I dedicated myself to exploring Malkuth and also had a sneak peek into just the lower triangle of the Tree of Life. This fall, however, I'll not add layers, instead, I want to establish some ancestral work, so I chose some decks and items I want to use for that, and I've been collecting spreads and activities. First few weeks, I'll just play around and see what I like best, what speaks to me, what has a positive impact on me, and also do a lot of research...and then from mid or end of October, I'll decide on 1 small "practice" I want to do regularly, maybe weekly, or according to the moon phases, or whatever seems realistic to me then, and I aspire it to become a longterm part of my practice.

      @@khan7459 Thanks for sharing a bit of your tarot reading and studying journey. I love that idea of adding layers for study in some years. What you’re working on now, the ancestral work, sounds fascinating. I think collecting those spreads and activities would be really good for practice and digging into those decks and items for that. It’s that long-term studying and always learning that makes me love tarot so much. Thanks for watching, commenting, and sharing. I haven’t read Tom Benjamin’s book, so I’ll find it. Thank you. I can’t think for the life of me which book I used (and referred to in the video) that told me to put away the tarot and use playing cards. I gave it to a friend, and lost touch with them. The problem with finding it now is a lot of books from the 2000s are paperbacks with a picture of a tarot card in the front, so not helpful in trying to find it again! 😂 I hope your work goes well this fall, and would love to hear how it’s going. Thank you.
