Why you must care about the assisted dying bill || my views as a student doctor
Hello from Cambridge this Thursday morning. recently, my time on the wards has made me more passionate about speaking out on this topic. I would love to hear your views too. Rosia :)
Krish Kandiah on the assisted dying bill:
th-cam.com/video/sNrFEKnC38M/w-d-xo.html
Recent Marie Curie report: (www.mariecurie.org.uk/policy/better-end-life-report) exposing serious shortcomings in palliative and end-of-life care in this country, with over 100,000 people dying each year without receiving the palliative care they desperately need.
More than 3,400 medical professionals have signed an open letter to the Prime Minister warning that assisted suicide cannot be introduced safely while the NHS is “broken” (www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/11/10/assisted-dying-cannot-be-brought-in-safely-while-nhs-broken/).
The risks of assisted suicide have been movingly explored in the actor and disability rights campaigner Liz Carr’s recent BBC One documentary ‘Better Off Dead’ (th-cam.com/video/gEysXRLTG5M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=g3KFx2umghZyFOnq), which I would encourage you to watch.
The documentary warns of the dangers of assisted suicide legislation for people with disabilities and living in poverty. As covered in this article (labourlist.org/2024/01/euthanasia-assisted-dying-suicide-prue-leith-esther-rantzen/) by Sir Stephen Timms MP, we have seen such dangers sadly become reality in other countries despite the supposedly strict safeguards that were in place when ‘assisted dying’ was first legalised.

"In my experience people love life", is that really your argument? It is clearly not about how long someone has to live, but about how much suffering someone is in. They still get to make the decision, no one is forcing them to end their life. About Canada: In Canada, individuals whose sole underlying medical condition is a mental illness are currently not eligible for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). Why are you spreading unfounded lies with the responsibilities entailed in your position?
damn she is fittttt
Thank you for talking about this haha, just found i've got an offer from Cambridge for medicine and as a christian too I think you're so great for talking about things a lot of youtubers don't xx
Congratulations!! :)
As an international student, i would like to know about the fee. People on the internet said Yale pay it for international students but i wanted to ask the students who got accepted with scholarship. How did you do this? Do I need to do smt extra in order to get scholarship?
Why are all these clips from ASIA???

My Grandma was diagnosed with terminal cancer and told she had 4 years to live. Almost 12 years later she's still alive and receives medication which was only being trialled when she was diagnosed. She remembers reading about this medication a few weeks after getting her news and remembers the feeling of dispare that she would die before it was available to her. 12 years later she now receives that very medication, has seen many grandchildren & great grandchildren be born and has experienced so much life and joy. I see how the 6 month boundary could benefit so many people in extreme pain and agree that its their choice. Yet once that boundary slowly becomes bigger and is opened up to more people, I fear people like my grandma would take the option to die and not live to see the new life they could have instead.

thank you for this, deffo useful info for med interviews too!
Nice video! Friday is gonna be a big day with ramificaitons for the ages to come. Considering that Canada and the Netherlands have already legalized the bill
@rosia_li Hello there, I appreciate what you said. Too many physicians haven't trust on their patients. Too many patients event distrust Medical Care. That's the problem.
I believe that if someone wants to die, they could buy a lethal injection at a hospital. Everyone is free to want to live or die. One day, not too far away, these injections will be sold to anyone who no longer wants to live. If someone hates their life and no one helps them, the best thing is for that person to end their suffering in a free and painless way. It is suicide, but it is their decision and the law must respect it, as a free human being that they are. If today's society were different, many people would not think about wanting to die. What needs to change is the way in which they are governing this society. But for governments it is easier to let people decide for themselves to end their lives freely, without forcing them or giving them fake medicines and creating pandemics to exterminate humanity.
