A Life of Grime- Salford refuse collection
Taken from BBC’s “A Life of Grime”, recorded in 2002. This extract shows a couple of clips or two of Salford City Councils refuse crews and the challenges they face collecting waste in a multicultural city. Not the best quality, recorded from tv straight to iPad.

Recorded back in 2018 when my 2002 Phoenix refuse truck was still in good working order.. in this short video I tip off the contents of the truck, mainly old broken plastic bins and some old wood furniture. Enjoy!

The Phoenix returns once again! Recorded in sunnier and happier times pre lockdown in 2020, my 2002 26t Dennis Phoenix RCV with Terberg TCA-DEL split lifts makes light work of compacting through a large sectional chicken coop, plenty of timber slats and a 1280 trade bin filled with pallets. Friend and fellow dustcart enthusiast Ross is assisting with loading the truck. Hope you all enjoy 👍

One of the most unique vehicles in the waste world, the Rotopress turns and mixes the waste during collection which makes it great for green waste collection. @@jesusislord748 Hi, I don’t believe that anyone has ever uploaded full Salford episodes to YT yet, I’ve got almost all of the Salford series on video tape but I have no way of converting them to a format where I can upload them. Are you after a particular clip of one of the episodes?
@ na not really after a certain clip mate I just want to watch the full series 3 Salford one I’m from Manchester and like all the nostalgia but I can’t find it anywhere tried to find it on bbc iPlayer but couldn’t find it
@ I enjoy the nostalgia of these too.. hard to believe it’s 20 years ago since the Salford episodes aired. If I had the means to upload what episodes I’ve got I would do

can u do me a favour can u ask them how they plan the routes of collecting bins. What computer software do they use? do u know someone who can answer my question
I believe you can plan routes through software like Bartec Collective however certainly in the case of the Council I’m employed by we just plan the routes ourselves based on the data and knowledge we have of the area (weights of waste collected, number of properties etc)
