Hi! I'm sina and in this channel I share my personal mood and experiences via sketching, calligraphy, drawing, and music. Plenty of rare and useful art supplies will be examined and reviewed here. Join me in this journey.
Improve your hatching style by LINEX automatic line spacer or Hatching Ruler, a must have art tool
Hatching is one of the basic techniques in drawing, inking, graphics, etching and many more art branches. Doing straight evenly spaced lines will definitely improve the visual quality of your piece and is a major factor in making the scenes believable. Linex Automatic Line Spacer is the only commercially made with reasonable price tag tool made to do hatching & will improve your hatching style with no doubt. this video is about Linex hatching ruler and all one needs about it is included. The tool has been put to work in combination with other art tools such as fine liners, technical pens, ballpoint pens and beloved pelican Graphos, and timelapse videos of doing straight, curved or cross hatching with all three above mentioned tools is provided. Linex hatching ruler in my opinion is one of the less-known must have art supplies that really deserves more attention.

Thanks, great explanation of a useful tool.
My pleasure, many thanks for your heartwarming compliment 😊 wish you health and happiness ☺️
Absolutely unobtainable….not available anywhere that I can find.
You can try to find it online, you know, eBay might be a good place to start! 😊 and remember as these things are considered vintage these days finding them isn't easy and definitely demands patience. Good luck buddy
@ not on eBay or anywhere else. Unfortunately the tool no longer exists.
@@Chris-c5l8q I suggest changing your location of search in eBay and try other countries. Maybe aby it's not available in your current location.

Brilliant stuff Sina. Very informative.
Glad it was helpful! Many thanks for your heartwarming comment and compliment. Good luck buddy

Exactly 👍
Great instrument and great instruction on its use. But useless if you can’t get hold of one of these. Nothing on the net. Disappointing and frustrating. I am from Singapore btw….. nevertheless nice to know that something like this exists. Thanks for your effort anyway

Hello Sina, I have the big one and I do not know how to set it to reach one to one relation. Could you please tell me how to do that? Thank you for your Videos!
Hi buddy, simply use the formula, y is 1 and x is 1 as well. (2000*1)/(1+1)=1000. Simply put the setting to 1000 for linear ratio of 1 to 1. good luck merry Christmas and happy new year 🎊
@sinashishehgarha3023 Thank you very much
Is there any formula for the circles? I mean how to divide a circle into 36 Parts
@@salahareer9132 Any time buddy, any time 😊
@@salahareer9132@salahareer9132 definitely there is, if you watch the video I have thoroughly described everything. But for example in this case you'd better first devide it into 18 and then again by doing the same devide it into 36. Watch the minute 11 of the video. There is a chart and you can also use the formula which is provided in the video. For example in this case æ is 10° just put it in the formula and the proper setting will be determined😊. I really suggest to download the pamphlet by searching the term "staedtler proportional divider pamphlet". Good luck 🤞

Looks like its a discontinued product replaced by the rolling ruler? Same capabilities but maybe more manual...I don't know never tried either. Nice video They should reissue this.
@@GGroove001 oh yes... they really should. You're right it has been discontinued but still can be found here and there online. And as for the rolling ruler its capabilities are far less than this tool. Actually you don't have any control over the spacing between lines and everything is controlled solely by precision of your hand, but using this tool you're in complete control. Anyhow, many thanks for your attention, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎊

@GGroove001 really appreciate your compliments, attention and support. I wish you health and happiness and a year full of success ❤️
Wish I knew about these vintage tools. When I was looking for something with the line quality of a dip pen but the convenience of a fountain pen, the closest I got was pairing the Indigraph pen with their new flexible EF nib. It's not quite as fine as a crow quill, but it does have enough flex to get good line variations, and the whole gimmick is that it can use technical or India inks without clogging. It can't be made into a technical pen, though.
Indigraph is quite fine but Ackerman is way cheaper actually. Another upside of Ackerman is that they use the same dip pen nibs that you use with a normal dip pen. You can order them with zebra G nib, brouse flexible nib, or even crow quill. Actually you can order five different one with the price of one in the Indigraph pen, really cool isn't it? Definitely worth checking their site. And actually I'm going to make a video about this pen. Many thanks for attention Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I can do every bit as well using a straight edge. If there was a real need for this tool, I'd have seen it at the Art Coop at some point over the last fifty years. I've bought other tools with a similar purpose, but not for hatching. If I can't draw hatching lines straight and even, I'll give up drawing, period. As far as I'm concerned, an artist who requires specialized tools for something that doesn't need it isn't much of an artist.
It sounds like you've mastered the art of hatching using traditional methods, which is truly impressive, but this tool provides a different experience and can be a valuable addition to any artist's toolkit. Many thanks for your attention, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🎊

Hi buddy, well actually this tool is only made by Linex from Denmark and I have never seen a similar device from any other brand. And as for the purchasing options the only thing I can think about right now is online shopping for example eBay or any local online store. And maybe there are some online shops who sell second-handed engineering devices that you can go check them. All in all these things are considered vintage these days and you can't just walk in an art supply store and take one. And maybe it's not a bad idea to go to veteran engineer communities ask if there's anyone who's willing to sell or give away his engineering or art staff. Good luck finding one, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
@@sinashishehgarha3023 thank you
@@pl33 Anytime buddy, anytime.
@@sinashishehgarha3023 how would you compare it to a rolling ruler?
@pl33 with the rolling Ruler you can scribe parallel lines but actually don't have any control over the spacing between the lines, everything is quite dependent on your hand precision. But with this device you don't need to have quite precise or steady hands and the tool actually adjust everything for you. And my own experience actually says that some rolling rulers are not accurate enough especially those which are made nowadays because these things are not considered engineering devices these days and precision is not an important option for them anymore. They are mostly being used by artists and while using it as an artist you don't need it to be quite precise. All in all I suggest vintage tools over modern ones they have really Superior built quality.
I love me some hatching, Thanks♡

Hello, I am so happy to have found your channel. I am very interested in these tools. My sets did not come with instructions so I am excited to see how everything works. Thank you for explaining. How do you clean your pens after use? It would be great if you listed all of the tools mentioned in the notes below the video. Thanks again!
@@kimbaxley7595 Hi, I'm so grateful that you're here and you're so generous to share with us your heartwarming comments. Actually, I have described thoroughly how to clean the tool in the video, But, long story short, you'd better use sanitation alcohol to clean them. Just Don't spray alcohol over the bodies cause in some cases that they are made from resin alcohol can be harmful. Just spray alcohol over the nibs where it has became inky and wipe it clean with a piece of cloth or toilet paper and that should do the job. You can do the same for your dip pens just as as I have described in the video of dip pens. I'd be really grateful to help if necessary, anytime. Merry Christmas and happy new year 🎊
Besides the fact that I tend to hatch when I doodle, there is no reason the algorithm should have served me this video but man....what a mesmerizing video. The tool is cool, but I'm sort of obsessed with the perfection of the technical pen lines. Sub granted.
Many thanks for joining me on this channel and I'm really grateful for your heartwarming compliment. It's not the algorithm buddy, it's your beautiful mind that guides you through this maze. Keep up the good word, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎊
Really apreciate this video! As a miniature/model maker I struggle to form precise parallel lines by hand and current options are not the best. Would it be possible to see what the ruler advancing mechanism inside looks like, perhaps at a later video?
Really appreciate your attention, actually there is an old video on TH-cam in which someone dismantles one of these. It's a quite old video and has low quality but I think it does the job and provides you a really vivid picture of what is going inside it. Actually there is someone on this channel and has commented below this video as well that told me that he's going to make one of these for himself just by watching that video. Maybe it's worth searching for it right now. Merry Christmas and happy new year 🥰

It is a bit tricky to find these vintage tools these days, but keep on searching, you will find it, believe me! And definitely after you find it you're going to say " it really worth it" you can't just walk into an art supplies store and buy one of these, even known brands don't make quality products like they used to do some 20 years ago. Everything is plasticy and fragile. So it really worth searching quality products like these and after you found it it's going to last you a lifetime. Merry Christmas and happy new year 🥰
Thanks. Where can I find this product?
Hi buddy, well actually these things are considered vintage these days, and finding them can be quite tricky. Obviously the first option is searching online in local retail websites or even eBay. The second option that has worked for me is meeting veteran engineering communities and ask if there is anyone who is willing to sell or give away his/her staff. I know these are not normal ways of looking for art supplies but finding high quality good stuffs is not easy these days you can't just walk into an art store and buy something. Everything nowadays is made by low quality and fragile material and even known brands don't make quality products like they used to do some 20 years ago. Good luck buddy and God speed.

Do you have any recommendations for a proportional divider? I have been looking and none seem to give great detail… especially about whether they can create the golden rectangle…thank you
@@wmbriggz Hi buddy, I strongly recommend the one with decimal scaling over the other one, cause it has way more applications. But as for the "Golden Ratio" I should say both of them can be used and the one with preset scaling mostly has the "GS" mark on the body. But the golden rectangle is STH you draw based on golden ratio and I have thoroughly explained about it in the video. So as the result you'd better go for the one with decimal scaling if possible.
