@@w33ksy hi mate i think its just the light shining on the reels if its the part im thinking. Is it the knob behind the star drag you mean ? If so its just the normal gold penn logo shining with the headlight it looks green to me too watching the video

Brilliant session got to b the best beach in south Wales traveled down from Liverpool for a session 2 years ago and wasn't disappointed small eyed and spotted in the day well done 👏👏

Ordered ready for a build
Just purchased a Fathom II Star Drag Casting Special... Got home, took it out of the box, and inspected it. With the spool engaged and holding the spool stationary with my thumb, I can move the crank handle in reverse about 3 or 4 degrees. This just seems way too sloppy and very disappointing. I'm thinking where the pinion gear mates with the spool drive is where all the slop is.

@@trickyrick8621 as far as i can remember my handles only go one way the dont turn back when engaged only when in free spool
@@OverSheGoes I took it back ...... Checked 2 other new in the box, they all had the same problem. They are made in China .... I cant believe Penn would allow this. Its in the pinion gear where it mates with the spool drive is where the slop is. Its like using a 11mm wrench to break a 10mm bolt loose ..... You know its going to strip given enough force.

I am 70 now and have fished all my life for pure wild brownies , in wee spate burns as a kid, graduating to hill lochs as I got older. The type of so called fishing depicted in this video does absolutely nothing for me, although I do appreciate this type of fishery does provide a very valuable resource for the uninitiated. In fact bring on more of these ponds, as it will help protect our natural resources. My wee bit of advice to all new fly fishers would be to keep you casting short and delicate, trying to throw huge long casts just scares the fish. Also play the fish on the reel nice and gently. Trying to yank them out of the water as if sea fishing with a boat rod is not the way to go. I will probably get a lot of negative comments on this, but if you have had a 3 pound wild brownie on a screaming reel on a West Highland hill loch you may well agree on my take of things. Tight lines to all.

@@fishingcountrylifewithtommyjoe i know where your coming from mate ive seen mates lose good fish too thats why i stayed well away but using them on the tope had me thinking and curious so ive been trying them and touch wood so far so good. Could possibly be that the hooks im using are 3/0 and the baits are slightly smaller than i normally use so wether thats helping by the fish taking the bait in easier and then the circle hook turning into the corner of the mouth i dont know but im still using pulley rigs with the pennel hooks for my bigger ray baits 👍
@OverSheGoes definitely can see where the advantages are and I absolutely love them for ray fishing. I've lost 2 tope on them this year 😪 and they don't work for Huss I've dropped some really nice huss on the dongle but it's a bit of a go to for the rays

Great review. I think that you are getting a lot of rod for the money with all the features, especially as it's ready to go. I would guess that if you were lucky enough to accidentally get into something with teath, that it would handle it just fine. Seems like a winner to me.
@@paddington3028 100% i would have confidence in this if there was a by catch of a tope theres plenty of grunt in the butt section. For the money theres its definitely punching way above its weight 💪💪

Bass rods moved on a long way since the rebranded carp rods of old. Think afaw bass pro will take some beating myselfe, but I ain’t a fan of buying Chinese products if I’m honest. Britain first for me 👍

What is the difference between this and the x14gt looks a cracking bit of kit
Hi mate the XGT14 is only 14ft and the superlite is 14ft 4 inches both very similar in casting ratings and blank diameters. Other than the length the only other noticeable difference is that the XGT14 has a carbon glass tip and the superlite is just carbon. Im looking forward to doing a review on the superlite fished next to the XGT14 👍👍

@@martinsadler427 not as soft in the tip and and i find they have a bit more power in the mid and butt section. 7oz and ray baits i love them over clean ground 💪💪
