Saw this guy. Pure blues! A great performer! So talented.
He the bomb
Thanks for the great music, Mike. RIP.
no. thats not the band
rest of Richard
Way to tear it up Skunk! Go Big Red!
Was on Facebook when a question was raised about great Sax solos... from my dim past memory I thought of a song, and started searchign for it... had about given up, when This popped up!! WOW!! Great memories from the past!
What a fantastic set by The Band, esp Richard Manuel's voice in superb shape! Thanks for bringing us this performance!
Rousing performance, but Richard proved why he is one of the best rock vocalists of all time.
Absurd how great Richard sounds here. Miss him so much.
when garth goes i'm gonna lose it
Why isn't Robbie in this video?
LETS BE CAREFUL OUT THERE. let's be careful out there
1969 listening to the Band over and over, I know there were so many elements that were so crucial to their unique identity, but over all the years since I've realised it was Richard's voice that made them sound like old-timers in touch with the earth and every human passion. I feel priveleged to have been able to listen to them and learn some of their songs to play with friends. Love to the memories of Richard, Robbie, Levon and Rick and much love and ongoing respect also to 'Brother' Garth who created such ethereal atmosphere on songs like Whispering Pines. Geniuses all.
Butterfield died in 1987 so this is somewhere before that and after The Last Waltz.
Awesome version!
How it's done.
Who's the guy playing guitar on the far right that you can hardly see?
Looks like Jim Krueger to me and that's the way he held his guitar, but I can't tell for certain.
RIP Mike Finnigan and great drummer, Rick Jaeger. Thank you both for so much for your kindness, inspiration and tremendous humor.
Richard ❤ 💥 You are so missed!!!
where's Levon ?????
egotistical Robertson robbed us all the talent and amazing people that we know obviously Robertson was overshadowed in his one way bs
Richard Manuel El corazón de The Band
The name of that blues instrumental is "Diddy Wah Diddy."
من أروع ما سمعت و barel of pain 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Long love the band
Who is that on piano? I have seen him before but can't remember his name.
I meant organ/keyboards.
@@MrMojolinux Mike Finnigan, great organist and singer originally from the Serfs
He was with CSN as a regular for years. Also played on Electric Ladyland with Jimi Hendrix. Finnigan toured with and sessioned for Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, Etta James, Sam Moore, Crosby Stills and Nash, Dave Mason, Buddy Guy, The Manhattan Transfer, Taj Mahal, Michael McDonald, Maria Muldaur, Peter Frampton, Cher, Ringo Starr, Leonard Cohen, Tower of Power, Rod Stewart, David Coverdale, Tracy Chapman, Los Lonely Boys, and Bonnie Raitt.
"Soul Twist"
Paul Butterfield Rick Danko Richard Manuel .Good stuff
Played that great organ on Hendrix’s Rainy Day Dream Away…a song that was almost completely improvised in the studio, as Finnegan and also Buddy Miles tell it in the Classic Albums for Electric Ladyland.
remembering Ricarhd on his birthday...sigh
Rick's fantastic harmony singing...
I miss them ✌️❤️
me too
can you list the whole lineup?
Marty Grebb gone, too
sigh...miss him so very much
No kidding. me, too.
Nothing is the same without Brother Mike here, thinking of you Rest in Peace.
There are only 2 words that capture this group THE BAND its too bad they couldn't get along with each other
They got along with each other it was just Robbie they didn't along with.
It’s much more complicated than that. Having devoured every scrap of writing about these guys, I’d say that the issue was most definitely NOT Robbie; had it not BEEN for Robbie in the first place, there goes about 80% of the songs. The issue was drugs. Helm, Danko, and Manuel all had drug problems that stymied the creative development of The Band. Levon blamed the songwriting credit issue, but it’s fascinating how the quality of the records went down at roughly the time that their drug addictions were taking hold. As for the issue of songwriting credits, Band insiders like Ronnie Hawkins, John Simon, and Jonathan Taplin all have stated that Robbie was properly credited. There WAS no “feud”. “Feud” implies two parties. Robbie never slandered Levon the way that Levon slandered Robbie in his “autobiography”. Robbie has had nothing but kind things to say about Levon.
Robbie robertson destroyed the band that he started. He can write lyrics and little guitar? The band was much more than Robbie. They all created the sound
@@danreilly2792 Again, it was drugs that destroyed The Band, not Robbie. The reason why Robbie wanted to shut things down...temporarily...was that he was concerned about the health of Richard and Rick and, to a smaller extent, Levon. All three were messing with Heroin. The 76 Tour that culminated in The Last Waltz was very hit and miss in terms of performance, and Richard got into a boating accident early on that took him out of action for a while. It was not designed to be a permanent ending, just a temporary hiatus to give everyone a chance to clean up and get healthy. They finished up “Islands” in the Studio, and just never got back together until 83, by which time Robbie had a lucrative career working for Scorsese. Robbie was actually trying to look out for them.
@@danreilly2792 As to the “play a little guitar” comment, you may not be aware that he successfully fended off challenges...as a Teenager!...from both Fred Carter, Jr AND the legendary Roy Buchanan. Ronnie Hawkins loved to set up “duels” between his musicians and potential additions to The Hawks. Robbie was a teenager fending off not one, but two different guitar legends.
I thought it was a bee gee singing the band's music
Very nice performance, is there a full concert by chance?
Is levon in this? And who’s all performing
no
Clearly at a time when Manuel was clean, sober, and kicking ass. There were shows from years before this where he sounded 20 years older. God bless Richard Manuel. RIP.
They were all brilliant musicians individually, as the Band they were Magnificent. Miss that music nowadays. Thank God we have recordings
What a lineup! Not just the Band, but Butter and Blondie, too. Rick is pure joy!
The great Jim “Bruiser” Krueger wearing the Milwaukee Brewers shirt…superb player and friend from Manitowoc, Wi.. RIP !!
OMG, how great he is...cheers from Milano (Italia)
RIP Mike
Used to follow Mike & Jerry Wood (Finnigan & Wood) around in Wichita clubs back in the late 60's. Last time I saw Mike was at the House of Blues in Las Vegas ... the BonTaj 2009 tour, I believe. It was so good to hear him perform live and visit with him again after all those years. After that, we exchanged emails for awhile. I'm so thankful for the opportunity before he passed away. He is missed.
meet him back @Madam Love Joy's in the River Que he was Great then and forever. So sorry to hear of his Passing
what year this
I guess 1984 but not sure. Richard passed in 1986.
u mean richard died by suicide@@MrGreglarry
@@ruthferris7346 Correct.
Rest In Peace, Mike. We'll miss you for sure.
That was awesome. Who was the guy playing guitar facing Manuel? I've seen him on other gigs on TH-cam.
I believe that's Blondie Chaplin. He's played with the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones and a ton of other folks.
@@knd2000 And that's one guy who can sing like there is no tomorrow. Blondie hits his notes.
Yep. That’s Blondie. Sail On Sailor was the most soulful song that The Beach Boys released...and Blondie made that song. Period.
