    What a great resource. As someone trying to learn this on their own, ski waxing -- kick waxing in particular -- can seem like some sort of mystical lore. You have to pick up bits and pieces here and there, and it feels impossible to get the full picture. So it's great to be able to watch something like this at my own pace and just absorb. What I'm learning is that ski waxing is science, experience, intuition, and a little guesswork all mixed together. Thank goodness our local coaching staff handle the kick waxing for youth races!

    the student + teacher shots are really good. because then you can clearly see what most everybody does wrong. Students are doing a punchy "donkey kick" late in the kick which doesn't usually work on snow, while the teacher pushes from under himself.

  • @paulblichmann2791
    @paulblichmann2791 หลายเดือนก่อน

    agreed I always think about driving the non-kicking leg forward, not about the kicking leg. The kicking leg knows what to do. and then you only need to think "left, right..." instead of "left arm/right leg, reverse, hockie pockie..."

    Just a thought: he is too close to the bar and isn’t committing his drive onto his right leg. He is still keeping his body between the skis instead of fully committing onto the gliding ski. Let me know if my observation is wrong.

    Let me be perfectly honest. After watching hundreds of hours of xc skiing video and seeing the way that pro athletes double pole, I think you're completely out to lunch. The way you utilize this machine is the old old old way of double poling and I don't see any athletes using your method at all anymore.

    Looks like a good test protocol overall and superior in many respects to what I've done in the past. However, don't you find that clamping on something with the teeth creates tension, distraction, and uses muscles that one wouldn't normally use, no matter how seemingly slight? Also, my experience in labs is that the testers want to attach HR chest straps way too tight in their efforts to avoid errors which (for me at least) make me feel as if I can't breathe and actually causes chest cramping. I prefer using my own strap and syncing it with the tester's electronics. Do you not do simultaneous lactate testing? It seems not.

    • @CXCAcademy
      @CXCAcademy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, In our test, athletes can choose to wear a personal HR chest strap. We don’t do simultaneous lactate. We can pull heart rate intensity zones just as easily if not more accurately than stepping off the treadmill for a lactate, dropping effort, and then getting back to speed. A sustained stress load gives us a cleaner look at a steady ramp up to max, in a timeframe that yields really clear data and enough time in the spectrum of energy use, but is still short enough (~15 min) to yield close to a max VO2 value at the end.

They have a tendancy of always keeping both skis on the snow which keep bringing their hip back. Thank you for sharing you are an amazing teacher so intentionate to your students.
